Just got back from the resort yesterday. I was amazed to read some of the reviews here before we left for Cabo. My wife finally asked me to stop as I was getting stressed.
I was pleasantly surprised by most aspects of the trip. My wife and I (around 30yrs old, no kids) had a good time. It was relaxing, fun, and romantic. I think if you are easygoing, and are happy to get to the beach, then you'll enjoy yourself. "Mexico time" is not "USA time". Things are slower and you have to be more patient (for food, tables, etc). You're on vacation, relax. The key is to enjoy the view, enjoy the sound of the ocean, and slow down. On the other hand, if you think that you should be treated as if you are at The Four Seasons in the US, you may be disappointed (but you didn’t pay for it either).
It’s true, there are bees, a lack of pool floats, and people save the chairs. Ask to borrow a float when others are not using it, sit out by the beach, and don’t swat at the bees. I think people complain sometimes just for attention. It’s kind of like a crying baby. We had a great vacation. The food was pleasant (not spectacular, but pleasant) Oddly enough, our best dinner was at the pool grill at night. A great view of the waves and a cool breeze. The food is about the same at all restaurants. If you go to Mexico and opt to eat sushi, you're on your own, I can’t vouch for it. We stuck with margaritas, tacos, and the occasional steak or fish. The Mexican food was good and the views made it better. The Italian restaurant is back in a corner, not very scenic (and hot), so I would pass if given the chance again.
This was our one year anniversary and we returned to our room on the first night to find candles, rose petals all over the bed, a bath ready for us, and soft music. Needless to say, my wife thought I had arranged the whole thing. I confessed, but it was a very nice touch by the staff.
Bring $100 in one dollar bills, it should last you your entire stay. A buck when you belly up to the bar will do wonders, and they work hard for you. Leave a few bucks for the maid, and you won’t have any of the problems that people complain about here, we had no issues whatsoever. The front desk was attentive, the room clean and the service was perfectly fine.
If interested, walk out to the street, take a bus west (to the left), and get off in Cab san Lucas (you can’t miss it). It’ll cost you $1 and is safe, easy and air conditioned. We had a bunch of mariachis on the bus that sang the whole way, very awesome. Stay away from the “welcome tour” by the folks at the desks at the front when you check in. Kindly say “we’ll be back down after we drop off our bags” and they will let you be. They are the time share sales people and will assuredly keep you there for an hour or two. Don’t bother, move on to the bar for a cocktail.
Here’s my last bit of advice: You’re in another country, so try and speak the language and enjoy a different culture, cuisine, and pace of daily life. Mexico is a beautiful and friendly place if you treat her with respect and kindness. The staff will help you with anything you need if you smile and say “por favor” and “gracias!”.
