My girlfriend and I went for a week's stay to Dreams with an all-inclusive package. I chose the hotel based on the reviews I read here and on a few other sites. I know a lot of resorts are hurting and trying to save money because of the swine flu and the economy. Regardless:
Pros
-The room was spacious and very clean. The view was ok.
-The pool/beach staff was friendly AS LONG AS YOU TIPPED THEM! Best bet was to tip them before they served you so they wouldn’t snub you the next time around.
-The beaches to the right and to the left of the resort are beautiful
-They definitely keep the drinks flowing at the bars (BUT YOU BETTER TIP THEM)
-You can rent a car to get away from this place very cheaply
Cons
-The food was absolutely disgusting! Frozen, poor quality, poorly seasoned, etc. I can't stress enough how awful.
-Room service food was a joke. My girlfriend called one evening and asked for potato chips. They said no, they didn’t have them! And we know they had them because a few nights later, we called again to order a sandwich and it came with potato chips. Huh? They were being lazy.
-If you called room service, housekeeping, or the front desk for anything, you had to call at least twice to make sure they would do what you needed.
-The mini bar was not restocked on two occasions. They promised it would be stocked each day...it wasn't.
-The sheets are kind of gross feeling (low thread count, a little slimy). I don’t think they changed them every day.
-The place is run amok with children, at both pools and on the beach. They are wild and most of the families had no concern that the children were acting insane around people without children. If you have kids, it might be ok. But for those without, yikes!
-The restaurants are situated right next to the pools and there is constant clattering of silverware and dishes, day and night.
-They had a giant diesel truck right on the beach, in the area with the chairs, drilling into the ground for water. I am aware that construction must be done at some point around resorts, but it was a little ridiculous that it was running for hours RIGHT WHERE THE CHAIRS ARE. Not too relaxing and a little hard to escape.
-They play ungodly horrible fake spa music at the "quiet pool." It wouldn't be so bad if the speakers didn't crackle and break up. Might as well leave it off?
-The staff tries a little too hard with all the lame activities, but I guess that is really for people with kids
-The resort is too small to accommodate two weddings at once, but they did on one day and from what I understand it was insane. We had escaped at this point.
That's about it. Unless you have loud, rowdy kids, don't stay here EVER.
