I too was worried after reading some of the Fall ’07 reviews. But once I arrived at Dreams my worries melted away.
I had no issues with check in - although check out was a little time consuming. The hotel desk staff asks you to fill out a one page survey detailing your experience at dreams.
The hotel grounds are well manicured and daily maintenance is obvious. There is construction in the front of the hotel, but it did not disturb me in the least.
The staff is extremely friendly, but not overly so. If you want to be left alone, sit by the beach. Given that I traveled during spring break there were far too many noisy teenagers drinking margaritas - with the permission of their parents. I guess most hotels are fairly lenient with the drinking age. But after a week of drinking 10 fruity daiquiris per day and not feeling the effect of alcohol I figured out that most drinks have only a splash of booze. If you ask for more booze they happily oblige.
The beach is lovely, even the local folk that sell their wares aren't too bothersome. The only downside is. . . because of a dangerous undertow, no one is allow in the water. The hotel staff does arrange a beach walk down to the Hilton that includes a romp in the surf, but other than that - no swimming in the ocean.
As far as restaurants go: El Patio is good for breakfast - they have omelet and waffle stations and many other breakfast choices. It's a great way to start your day. The two poolside restaurants served great lunches. Even the hotdog was good!
For dinner I would suggest Himitsu - the Japanese restaurant - if you are lucky you'll get Pepe as your waiter - he is too sweet! You can order as little or as much sushi/Japanese food as you like. It is all good!
The Italian restaurant Portofino is dressier. The atmosphere is a beautiful white washed feel. The food was excellent - everyone enjoyed their dish.
If you want a special experience - see Mario at the concierge desk and ask for the romantic dinner for two on the beach. Wow! What a special time - be forewarned this dinner is over and above your all inclusive cost. It is $200 per couple. The dinner includes a bottle of wine, a bottle of champagne, 1.5 lb lobster 6 oz steak, soup, salad and dessert. There are three menus to choose from, your choice must be made in advance of the dinner. Having dinner on the beach surrounded by tiki torches with a full moon shining down was spectacular!
The room was nice and well appointed. My only gripes were the bathroom and the hard mattress. The hotel installed energy saving light bulbs in the bathroom which were a bit dim. The bathroom is a little crowded.
The shows are okay, nothing over the top, but entertaining.
We went on three tours - the ATV Amigos tour - took forever to pick up from other hotels, but was worth the wait! Fantastic!
Horseback riding - amigos tour - disaster!!!! DO NOT GO on the Amigos Horseback Riding tour. It is located by the bullring. It was bad, but so funny. We were taken through the most garbage filled area of cabo. We passed a concrete dump, a tire dump, wild dogs bearing their fangs, people picking through trash. You never knew what silly, weird, scary site we'd see next.
Our final tour was a pub crawl for $65. The company provided transportation to/from downtown as well as 9 drink tickets, VIP entrance. We were supposed to go to the Zoo, Squid Roe, Hard Rock and Giggling Marlin. We got bored after 2.5 hours at Giggling Marlin and we left the group. Given that it was Spring Break there was no chance of us getting into any other bars.
The Spa was nice, small and not as posh as I would have liked, but I got the most amazing sports massage ever!! The daily flyers are delivered to your room offer spa discounts – bring the flyer to the spa to receive the discount.
Great trip, great weather what more can you ask???
