My husband and I enjoyed a great vacation to Dreams Los Cabos. We arrived Thursday, 1-31 and departed Monday, 2-4. It was our first time to Los Cabos area. We loved it and only wish we had stayed longer! It was great getting back to Mexico - the people are just wonderful. (Our vacation last year was to Jamaica which is SO different, no where near the level of friendly service) The resort is only a 25-30 min ride, on good roads, to the resort property. We had an all inclusive package, our transfers were through TransCabo. At Dreams, you can go all inclusive, or you can choose not. No bracelets, just give your room number to host or waiters, for restaurants or bars. I like that this resort is just under 400 rooms, more intimate feel than larger ones.
AIRPORT - it is sort of confusing if you don't know where you are going after you get through customs/immigration. Try to find out ahead of time from your travel agent, the LOCAL name of the group contracted for your transfers. I was looking for Royale Tours based on my travel vouchers, but it was TransCabo. If you know their company name, and what types of uniform they wear, you can just go right outside and find them. We ended up talking to a guy who helped us, truly helped us, not a timeshare. He reviewed our documents and told us the type of uniform and name to look for. I wondered if he was really trying to help, or his next comment would be about a timeshare. However, the timeshare guys all seemed to be in white, so we didn't even talk to them.
CLIMATE - awesome! It was between 75-80 each day, mostly sunny too! I didn't notice any humidity. I think because of the desert surrounding and the mountains. But, we were also there during their coolest time. At night, it was pretty chilly - in the 50's with sea breezes....definetly bring a light jacket and long pants for the evenings if you go in Jan/Feb. I'm not sure of other times of year.
PROPERTY - very well kept. This place always had people cleaning and doing little things to make it great. All restrooms were in clean condition. The yellow paint on the exterior is so bright and cheery. I loved the architecture. The layout was pretty good, though the extra section to the east side seemed less accessible to most of the restaurants than the rest (in the "U" section) but it was not really an issue. I guess you could say it is laid out like: _)U . This makes more sense if you look at the property map on their website.
They are constructing a new conference area/ballroom but I could not hear this from any restaurant, the beach or the pool. If you are hanging out in your room at 1 pm, depending on where the room is, you could hear it. But who is in their room at that time? They were done by 4 most days it seemed - this really had no play into whether we liked the place or not. The service and great experience outweighed any construction noise by far.
SERVICE/STAFF- AWESOME! Everyone was very nice, always said hello and smiled! I loved being called senorita and when we arrived, the bell boys said "welcome home" & "welcome to paradise" - it was cute.
ROOM - We had the smallest room - oceanview junior suite, which didn't even feel small. We were in the section outside of the "U" - room 5515. It seems like the 4 digit room #s were all in this section. Our room overlooked the quieter pool. We had plenty of room to spread out with the sitting area. Bed seemed comfortable enough, we did have a king. Safe was digital and large enough for all the things you need to lock away. Bathroom was nice, although we would have liked the toilet farther from the sink/counter error. FYI - don't use too much paper in the toilet, we had to call twice to get it unplugged. Maid service was great, I liked that they came by around 8 pm every night to take out your dirty towels again and turn down. I also liked getting the daily resort sheet with activities & weather on it.
FOOD - We thought everything was good! Sure, there were a few things I had that weren't my favorite, but I just went and got something else off the buffet, for lunch primarily. I would agree the chips and Mexican salsa and guacamole is the best for lunch - the burgers were also good and I had a great bbq quesdilla from Seaside (by the main pool) Dinners, we only ate at the ala cartes and liked everything we had. We enjoyed the Asian once - Himitsu. Very good. Oh, the wine selections were just fine for me. Italian at Portofino was our favorite. Great bread too! We ate there twice. We had Oceana (by the quiet pool) for seafood one night and it was surprisingly good as well, I don't particularly care for seafood but enjoyed my fish fillet. The Shrimp was very good too. What worked for me is that I'm not a food snob and was just glad someone else prepared it and cleaned up after me. That is what I want in a vacation.
POOLS - We never got in either of them! Only because we never really got hot enough to take a dip. The main pool is more appealing. I agree with previous remarks on the "murkiness" of the quiet pool. They do clean it though - saw them several times. They play music and have activities by the main pool. We mostly sat under those palapas on the beach. Lounges do fill up, but we were always able to find one, even if it was later in the morning.
BEACH - Very wide and plenty of space. There are vendors that come and set up everyday beyond the roped section. This is the public area so they are allowed I suppose. It was kind of an eyesore but didn't ruin it for me. You cannot swim in the sea and I wouldn't want to - those waves got pretty big. We enjoyed a couple walks though on the shore in the surf. It was nice. FYI - this sand is much more coarse and not as "soft and white" as the Caribbean side. OH - the best part as this time of years the whales are there. We could see them every day out in the sea, sometimes getting closer to the shore. It was fun watching for the whales from our chair.
ACTIVITIES/ENTERTAINMENT- good offerings for the size. I had the best time at Casino night, Mexican night was fun too, with the mariachi band.
OFFSITE ACTIVITIES - definitely do the El Arco tour. Take a glass bottom boat, it has less people and go earlier, like around 9am. It is so pretty out there. When we finished, we had a couple hours to shop around the mall and marina area (pretty cool) downtown Cabo San Lucas before our transport came back for us. We used Rancho Tours for this. $50 for both of us gave us transportation to town (20 min drive) & the tour. Tour alone is $12 and you usually have to pay to get to town so did it all in one shot. (hotel shuttle available at $12 roundtrip) Email me if you want more details on lovers beach etc. We didn't get out to stay there. If you were here more than 4 days, you could find plenty of activities to explore this unique area of Mexico.
I would recommend Los Cabos and the resort of Dreams for sure!
