My wife and I just returned from the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos for our first anniversary and had a wonderful trip. The hotel is fantastic and the pools and grounds are gorgeous. The staff was hard-working and extremely cordial in all parts of the hotel.

They honored our request for a high floor room (we were in 416, with a nice view of the pools and ocean) and offered us a 10% discount on food and drinks if we signed up for the Fiesta elite membership card (or something) so of course we obliged. Then we were sent across the lobby for the requisite timeshare pitch, which a quick “no thank you” put a stop to for the rest of the week.

The rooms were perfectly fine for our purposes, with high ceilings and roomy-enough balcony. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous (I could have fit my whole family in the shower, although that would be gross). Maid service was very good, they forgot towels twice but a quick phone call took care of it.

We ate breakfast at the restaurant each morning and found the food to be very good, albeit pricey (~$30-35 for two with tip each morning). Thankfully they offered an ala carte menu in addition to the buffet, so this saved us a bit of money (and probably a few extra pounds as well). We also ate lunch at the pool each day, half at the restaurant and half poolside. The lunches were also very good overall, but of course not cheap either (~$40 for two with tip). The cobb salad and the burrito were our favorites, but I don’t think you can go wrong with whatever you choose. We ate dinner outside the hotel every night, so no comments there.

The hotel bar is very nice, comfortable with a great view. We had a drink at the bar almost every night before heading into town… nice live guitar and good margaritas (a little too much Grand Marnier for my taste, but it didn’t stop me). Our only complaint was that it was tough to get a drink when it got crowded, both from the waiters and the bartender (there were a few conventions there during the week, generally not optimal conditions for a quiet hotel bar). We also tried the late night fire pit music thing, which was great. Aside from these options nightlife at the hotel was pretty nonexistent, which is just fine for those venturing into town for this purpose.

(Side note - Check the forums for my Cabo restaurant and nightlife reviews. We ate at Mi Casa, The Office, La Dolce, Trailer Park, Da Giorgio’s and Ruth Chris. We drank at Cabo Wabo, Squid Roe, Giggling Marlin, Margaritavilla, Nowhere Bar and Nikki Beach at the Melia. If anyone has any questions about the hotel or Cabo in general please reply here and I will do my best to help out.)

We got a “couples” massage on the beach just before sunset, which, after the $25 coupons we got when we checked in (part of our package I guess) only cost $160 for both of us, including tip. I don’t have much massage experience but my wife tells me the massages we got were the best she’s had for the money.

Activity options during the day at the hotel seemed pretty slim, but we would not have gotten much use out of them anyway, so no complaints here.

In our seven day stay we saw three weddings on site, one being setup on the beach so close to the pool that there was just as big an audience in the pool than there was at the ceremony. Otherwise it is a beautiful spot for a wedding, although I’m sure not a bargain option.

I think our only complaint about the hotel was that large portions of the property were roped off at various times for various conventions. I understand their need to cater to these lucrative customers, but there were a couple days where half the beach was closed off (behind the massage chairs) for the entire day (from 9am forward) because of a 5pm convention party – completely unnecessary, and it made securing a beach palapa nearly impossible.

Unless you are renting a car, bring $$$ for taxis ($20 each way plus tip, for up to 4 people). It was proportionally odd - on the nights when we didn’t do an expensive dinner we spent almost as much on taxis to/from town as we did in town itself.

On our last day we threw caution to the wind and strayed from our eat/pool/eat/drink plan (which we strictly enforced all week) and left the pool early to check out the arch/lovers beach before dinner. We took the 4pm shuttle (don’t pay for both ways unless you plan to use it – I think it cost 100 pesos for both of us one way) and got to the marina around 4:45. Although they had just closed down for the night we convinced one of the glass-bottom boats to bring us out to see the arch (too late for a drop off at Lovers Beach, but at least we got pictures). A very nice trip ($22 plus a good tip – he was a lot of fun), try to find a guide who speaks English as they have some amusing stories and descriptions to share during the ride, and get there early as they close down earlier than we thought.

A few random good and bad Fiesta Americana experiences from the week:

BAD: On Friday I asked the concierge to make us a reservation at Da Giorgio’s for Sunday evening, which he wrote in the reservation book and assured me that it would be taken care of. When we arrived at Da Giorgio’s on Sunday they did not have our reservation on record and they were jammed with two weddings. Thankfully we begged and pleaded and they were able to squeeze us in. Oddly enough we met another couple at the pool the next day that had exactly the same experience with the concierge and Da Giorgio’s the night before. My recommendation – ask the concierge make reservations while you wait and get a confirmation number, just to make sure.

BAD then GOOD: We found an express checkout form on our doorknob when we left the room Friday morning (our third day), and were told that their reservation system showed us checking out after only two nights. We would need to call the travel agent and clear it up. Eventually after ½ hour of verbal sparring they were able to retrieve a copy of a receipt from their basement files with the correct dates, apparently there was a mistake in the entering of the reservation into the computer. On the bright side, they sent a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries up to our room later that day for our troubles. A nice trade-off for an hour of confusion, and a very nice gesture on their part.

GOOD: I made an online reservation at the Office for Thursday night, and upon asking the concierge to confirm I was told they did not have our reservation on file and they were booked for the night. We asked the concierge to call back and look into it (it was my wife’s birthday after all) and Alberto (the chief concierge, I believe) was able to get us in, 7pm as we originally hoped. Props to Alberto.

Overall, I highly recommend Fiesta Americana Los Cabos. Especially at this price point, we could not have done better. Beautiful grounds, great staff, it was perfect for our needs and we had a wonderful time.

My husband and I went to Cabo for our 1 year wedding anniversary and we were so happy with our choice! Fiesta Americana is absolutely beautiful and the grounds are stunning! All employees were very kind and helpful during our stay and I also suggest tipping, they all work very hard at what they do. Our room was so beautiful with an amazing view of the pools and ocean. My only complaint about our room was the LOUD air conditioner. Due to the entire hotel being open & therefore did not have any air conditiong, we wanted to keep it cool in the bedroom but it was just too loud to sleep with.

I definitely suggest renting a car while you are in Cabo. You will save money especially if you see yourself going downtown everyday for dinner and for the clubs. The nightlife was great! Go to Margartavilla, they have the BEST jalepeno poppers! It also overlooks the Marina. WE had a great time at Medano Beach, lot's of action and restaurants all along the beach. Plenty of water taxis to go to Lover's Beach as well. We also did a Sunset Cruise with Sunrider, we had a blast and met great people! We also did a horseback ride on the beach, very romantic.

One thing I strongly suggest you do not waste your time doing is driving to Todos Santos to see Hotel California. What a complete waste of time! If you do go, do not eat there. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious, but unless you want to be swarmed by flies, go back to Cabo for dinner.

Overall, we had a WONDERFUL stay in Cabo! I highly recommend this hotel. A definite 5 Star!

My husband and I traveled to Cabo for a wedding. We stayed for 7 nights in the time-share part of the resort. Everything was incrediable - Beautiful grounds, pools, great food (beef nachos from Pennculia restrurant are wonderful). Rent a car if you plan on leaving the resort at all (Advantage Rent-a-Car is good and at the airport). The only drawback about resort is the parking (there is only Valet) no self parking. You have to wait 10-20 minuntes for your car every time. The resort is so big the take you to and from your room in Golf Carts! We stocked up on drinks and stuff at Cosco. Drinks are not cheap at the resort - but they are tasty. My good friend got married here on Whalers Tarrace overlooking the beach - Unbelieveable site. They had a harp ceremony music and dinner at sunset. This resort is a fablous place to get married. Check out the guy in the lobby he rolls his own cigars. Not much nightlife at the resort but Cabo has enough entertainment. Go to the 'Nowhere Bar' on the Marina and 'Squid Roe' main street. Iguannas Bar has the Best Enchlidas in town -(next to 'Squid Roe'). If you want to Snorkel drive to Santa Maria Beach or Lovers Beach (by water taxi). A snorkel tour will take you to these places and if you go on your own you miss the crowds. We took a Sunset dinner cruise On the SunRider - great time. A good Supermarket (besides Cosco) is across the Street from Iquannas. They have everything you might need there. My husband went fishing with a few other guys and they had a great day - catching a 35lb Grouper and over 15 Tuna. We had a wonderful time on our trip. Say no to 'free offers' - they are time shares. Tip well because all the resort workers are nice, polite and work extra long hours.

I have read many reviews about this place before I left to stay there this week. I had to leave a day early because of Hurricane Otis but I did get 6 soild days there and I have to say its TOP NOTCH!

First of all, we from the United States need to stop ------- and crying about every little thing that doesn't go thier way. It started in the Airport. "Its too Hot" "Why is the Line so Long" "They should do this or they should do that..." For those of you that are like that STAY HOME. You''re an embarassment to the U.S.A.

This place is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I got there and they gave me a regular room #446. We wanted a King Bed room and they gave me a Double. One call, and they moved me to 334. No problem. There were no bugs or critters in or around the hottel, well, maybe a moth so two but you're in the desert. We had a view of the beach, access to the three pools all of which were very clean the staff was quick to lay out a towl for you and the waiters were right behind them ready to bring you a drink.

The resturants were really good too. There's a buffet everyday at the Vina Del Mar. Not bad but its $22. I didn't eat at the Hotel except for breakfast anyway. Drinks on the otherhand were potent. They don't skimp in the liquior.

I got a massage one day and that was worth it. The staff at the Fiesta Americana was Top-Notch throughout. Everybody was nice and exteremly helpful. They did everything for you to have the best time you can possible have. I'm staying there again the next time I go.

If there is one thing that I can say about this place its the people working there that made this place a truly nice hotel. Plain and simple. I'll leave it at that.

I just returned from a week long stay at the Fiesta Americana. I traveled alone with the goal of 'getting away from it all' for a relaxing week. If this is your goal, then I think the Fiesta Americana suits it quite well. I should clarify that I stayed in the villas section of the resort. I was able to snag a timeshare week (there are a number of travel sites that offer them) at a great price so I went for it.

My trip was during the low season and it was HOT everyday. I spoke to one woman who did nothing during most of her stay due to being ill from the heat. The staff gave her a certificate for a free glass bottom boat tour as they felt bad that she was not enjoying her time. That gesture is typical of the service I received. Since I'm reviewing FA and not the weather, I'll move on!

Grounds/Facilities: As many others have stated, the grounds are beautiful. It's a stunning site. I have to also echo the concern regarding handicapped accessibility. My mother uses a wheelchair and there is no way that I would recommend this resort for her. The staff uses golf carts to transport guests to rooms. I sometimes walked (Just 5 minutes from the villas to the lobby), but took advantage of the carts as well when returning from shopping. There were hills that made walking with heavy packages more than challenging in the heat (sorry, had to mention it again) Carts were always prompt and the drivers were friendly and chatty. The pools were too warm. It was also 95+ degrees so, well, everything was warm. The lobby, thankfully, is air conditioned.

Dining/Shopping: I either went into town for food or ordered room service and did not eat at any of the restaurants at the hotel. Room service was hit and miss. The surf and turf (steak and shrimp) made me get over my craving for shrimp quickly. I wouldn't recommend it. However, the mexican dishes were great. It's pricey, though. A cheeseburger will run you $12.50, surf and turf for $35 - $40, and basic enchiladas for $9.50 (all without the 15% service charge). The resort also offers a small shop on site that sells (at a premium) basics such as orange juice, bread, lunch meats, eggs, ice cream, books and magazines, postcards, clothing, etc. If you are on site via a timeshare, purchases are discounted up to 35%. This helps if you have a room with a kitchen.

Rooms: Speaking of rooms, after straightening out an issue, the accomodations were great. I'd reserved a one bedroom. The first room had an incredible view but a terrible odor. It smelled of fresh paint. Upon entering the room, the staff member immediately insisted on changing it before I had the chance to mention it. The second room was in one of the lower villas (closest to the water) but had a view blocked by huge palm trees. There was also a minor issue with the functionality of the air conditioning. We attempted to switch rooms again, but they noted that they were out of rooms for the day. I was surprised by this but was placed on a waiting list and moved the next day. The final room was in the newer section of the villas (Rm# 1903). It was the equivalent of being on the 10th floor with an expansive view of the water. However, due to the hotel being built on a hill, you felt as though you were incredibly close to the water. I could not have asked for a more incredible view. Included was a kitchen (microwave, 2 burner cooktop, refrigerator, blender, toaster, coffee maker with supplies at no charge, dishwasher and all utensils). I did some shopping and made my own breakfast each morning. There were laundry facilities in the villas. Note that the villas in the older section had a washer/dryer in the suite.

Transportation: If you want to get around a lot, rent a car. I didn't and just took the hotel shuttle when I went into town as I didn't want to venture out far or often. It was $10 roundtrip and departed almost every hour from 9 AM to 5 PM. The latest return was 9 PM. There are lots of restaurants, street vendors and a mall within walking distance of the shuttle drop point. But if you just have to have American fast food, there's Burger King, Subway, McDonalds, Johnny Rockets, etc. There is also a lot outside of walking distance, so again, rent if you want to explore. Note that taxis into town from the hotel are $22 EACH WAY.

Activities: The hotel offers daily activities ranging from beach fishing (they'll cook your catch) to pottery painting to cooking classes to drink mixing lessons. I can't comment on those as I was hanging out on my balcony and reading or staring at the water.

One more note - At check in, be sure to ask how much they are authorizing on your credit card for incidentals. My room was fully paid for before arriving so I questioned the amount and stated that I would be charging very little to the room. He then said he'd only authorize $100 to $200. At check out, the gentleman next to me was expressing dissatisfaction at having a LARGE amount held on his card.

Overall, it really is a rather laid back resort. It was exactly what I was looking for. However, if my goal was to be active every day, enjoy more of the night life and be close to town, this would not have been my choice.

I hope this wasn't too wordy. It's my first review here and I've learned a lot from reading reviews posted by others. I hope I'm able to return the favor.
