Ok, I'm finally getting around to writing our review of the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos and I will give what I feel to be a fair and accurate review. We were there the week of June 26-30 and upon arrival there were some bumps in the road. We booked this trip through MLT and when we arrived, we were told we did not have a reservation. I have a friend that speaks fluent spanish to call, with me on the phone, the day before we left to see about an upgrade to the Grand Club and when we called, they claimed to have our reservation. So, the first hour of our trip was spent on the phone with MLT getting the reservation sorted out. Which we did. The second bump in the road was once we were ready to check-in, and had given our credit card for any room charges, they had placed a hold on our credit card for 1,000 US dollars. I told them that we pay cash for everything (due to exchange rate) while on vacation and there was no need to hold 1,000 on our CC for room charges. He then said, "what about $500"? I agreed to this only because I had just spent the first hour getting our reservation taken care of and I was a bit frustrated to say the least. Now, my husband and I have stayed at several Fiesta Americana resorts all over Mexico and the Caribbean and as most hotels do, they ask for a credit card but only to place a credit hold in case there are incidentials. This was a first for us so be sure and ask when they grab your credit card how much they are placing a hold for. They do this rather quickly hoping that your not paying attention.
We had read on several reviews to go to Costco and load up on drinks (soft drinks, beer etc.) and trust me, it's the thing to do. I had two drinks in the lobby bar (screw-drivers) and it was $24 dollars so, we rented a car (another thing I highly recommend) and went to Costco. We bought a throw down cooler, a case of beer, case of coke lite and name brand vodka with orange juice for $64 that lasted us all week. Plus, your Costco card from the US will work there as well. Now we were set to go.
This hotel is truly beautiful. We considered an upgrade to the Grand Spa, but there was no need. Our standard room was on the 5th floor, overlooking the beach and was beautiful. The food at this resort is $$ but is excellent!!! The hotel was not overcrowded at all. Dollar rent a car has an office in the hotel lobby and we rented a car for 3 days. Now, I will tell you that you can negotiate a better rate with Dollar rental and don't pay more than $65 a day. That's all I will say about that.
I want to also strongly recommend a day trip to Tado Santos. It's the same direction as going to La Paz and was incredible!! The guy at dollar recommend it and I am so glad that he did. It's a little art town with great outdoor seafood restaurants and some great shopping. No over anxious people begging you to come in their store. Oh and the famous HOTEL CALIFORNIA (The eagles) is there too. Looks just like the picture on their album cover. They also have the Hotel California bar across the street that makes a margarita that was voted the best margarita in some worldwide magazine.
Before I end this novel, I have to tell you about our last day at the Fiesta Americana. We layed at the pool all day long, had the pool waiter bring us the best hamburger I think that I've ever had and at 5pm, before I went in to get ready for dinner, I had the most outstanding massage on the beach for 1 hour. Truly amazing. After going back to the room and getting ready, we decided to try the Risorte restaurant that they have there in the hotel and let me tell you, 5 star all the way. Just so you're prepared, the restaurant is somewhat expensive (what you would expect to pay at a good steak place with a decent bottle of wine) but it's truly incredible!!! A wonderful last dinner to end a wonderful trip to a beautiful resort.
We have traveled all over the Caribbean and Mexico, been on just about every Cruise line and this was by far one of the best vacations we've ever been on. We are already booked for next year and my husband plans to go deep sea fishing with some buddies!!! We were told by several people at the airport that the deep sea fishing is GREAT!!!! If you find your way to Cabo, you must stay at the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. You will not be disappointed!!!!!
