We visited Cabos in May 2004 and will be going back soon. We were very happy for the most part with Fiesta Americana Grand.
Property:
The overall property was absolutely beautiful and located in a luxury part of town (not too far and not too close to dining/shopping). The room was beautiful, large, clean, comfortable, and had a nice view of the pool and the Sea of Cortes (try to get one on a higher floor for a better view, and in a building closer to the pool). Hotel had great access to gold course as well. There is also a fire pit with seating and a telescope on the property for viewing stars.
Swimming/Beach: 4 pools, 2 beach sides (with beach huts), plus hot tubs
For those who really want swimming beach, this is not the place. But most of Cabo has rough water. It also is a bit rocky. Be advised the sand is course, not soft, but it did wonders to exfoliate the feet!! We did get in the water, but spent most time lounging in the sun at the very large beach (2 different sides) or one of the pools or hot tubs. Lounging was best by the swim up bar, where I saw them smashing fresh coconut for our Pina Colada’s! Lounge chairs here had wide cushions for two. Or just lounge around in the hammocks lining one of the pools.
Food:
The breakfast buffet was pretty good. We had lunch at the Peninsula restaurant usually every day (recommend the BLT sandwich). Dinner was also good at Vina Del Mar, but you HAVE to try Rosato and sit outside (great Italian and seafood). It was pricey but amazing. Overall though, the food is a better value and variety in town.
Spa:
Definitely go to the gym and the spa! The spa was very luxurious and relaxing. Must try a massage on the beach (in a cabana).
Car/Activities off-site:
I do recommend renting a car for at least a couple days. I highly recommend a day trip down the scenic “desert highway” to the artsy town of Todos Santos and eat lunch at the real Hotel California (yes like the Eagles song!). If you love to fish, then try to catch Marlin on a great sport fishing adventure. Or try golf nearby
In-Town:
You can’t miss going into town and eating at some of the many incredible restaurants right on the water. It is a gourmet’s paradise! Try Café Dorian, which is Asian Fusion Cuisine (especially the coconut shrimp or lobster), La Galeria, which is International Cuisine, and Mi Casa for Mexican food with awesome Margarita’s (more in the middle of town). There are tons of shops, street vendors, glass blowing stores, etc. There is also a Costco fairly close by so stock up on liquor, snacks, and water to save some money!
Nightlife:
For those who love fun, the obvious attractions are Cabo Wabo and El Squid Roe.
Negatives of Hotel:
We did have a small problem with someone else’s lunch being charged to our bill, but we checked our bill daily so it was caught and fixed in plenty of time. Also, the staff was a little slow to react (we had a package deal from AAVacations that included breakfast but we had to ask several times to get our buffet taken care of). Also, make sure to give yourself plenty of time when checking out, especially if you need help with your luggage. We found then to be extremely slow and ended up taking our bags down ourselves since it was quicker. There was also a slight issue with Timeshare annoyances but if you cut them off at the beginning, you’re not bothered again.
Overall, it was a beautiful hotel with great rooms, beach and food. It was also a pretty good value for Cabo. We would certainly stay here again.
