I booked a 4 night stay at the Fiesta Americana after spending 2 weeks of trying to decide on which resort. I finally settled on FA because the deal I got on Expedia was the best deal for the highest rated hotel. The photos were limited and did not do the resort justice which is why it took me so long to decide.
I also booked a round-trip shuttle with Gray Line with my trip purchase which I strongly recommend as you don't want a taxi driver taking you to a timeshare sales pitch on the way to your hotel.
So we arrived and our jaws dropped. It was one of the most spectacular resorts...and that was just the lobby with the view from the lobby bar of the ocean. I walked closer to the lobby bar to take in the view and looked down from the open window and the grounds were spectacular, much larger than it looked in the photos on the FA website.
I had upgraded to the Grand Club at only $102 per night and it was the better deal. Our room was equivalent to a Ritz Carlton with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower and ocean view which was only a few yards off our balcony. Upgrading to a timeshare is the same price but I suggest the Grand Club upgrade because it includes free food.
Included in the Grand Club room was the Grand Club Lounge with its own concierge. There was a complimentary breakfast each morning and the food was the same as in the restaurants. We had a choice of several cereals, mixed fruit, papaya juice, honeydew melon juice, cantaloupe juice, pineapple juice and also freshly sliced papaya and melon along cheese and meats and salmon with cream cheese and also freshly baked pastries, coffee, cappucino and espresso.
During the day we stopped by for complimentary bottled water, freshly baked cookies and at 5pm we went by for appetizers, such as ceviche (also from the restaurant), the most delicious tortilla chips, guacamole and fresh salsa along with canapes and assorted cheeses.
At 6pm, they brought out the top-shelf liquors and we made our own drinks. We were so full we never ate dinner once! The only meal we paid for was lunch!
We charged all our poolside drinks, shopping and lunches to the room and when we checked out we only owed $130 each! Having the upgraded room was actually cheaper because if we had been paying for our breakfasts, and dinners and evening cocktails, it would have cost us a lot more than the $102 per-night upgrade which split three-ways was only a little over $33 each! What a deal!
You really do need to use a very very heavy sunblock down there. I used 60 and still burned a little and I was under a Palapa on the beach most of the time but the wind carries the UV rays so you can burn under the shade there so PLEASE do bring a strong sunblock and frequently reapply.
We went into the water and it was so warm. The beach, the water compares to Jamaica. The sand is made from rose granite and walking on it exfoliates your feet. My feet are smooth and soft from it. I had a massage in a draped covered cabana on the beach and felt like Cleopatra.
In the evening, they light a giant fire pit and there is an outdoor sofa with pillows for reclining. They bring out a giant telescope for star-gazing.
Oh and during the day, sitting under a Palapa on the beach, we would look out and see Marlin jumping.
We never did leave the resort except for a quick excursion to a pharmacy in town and you don't need to leave because all your needs are met at the Fiesta Americana. We had no desire to check out any other resorts either.
There is a store at the resort to buy all kinds of things from packaged snacks to medications, sunblock, bikinis. hats, cuban cigars, etc. There is also a jewelry store that looks very expensive but is not and since I hate negotiating in the marketplace, I bought some beautiful cheap and gorgeous jewelry there. A silver pair of hoops were only $3.
There are lovely hammocks all over the grounds. By the pool, there is a covered area with Ambient music playing through a speaker while in the lobby bar, jazz music plays.
We requested a late-check out and we were told "If the room is not needed you may check out at 2pm but if the room is needed, then you may have full access to the spa as long as you want."
We also asked if on our next trip we could arrange to dine in the evening in the beach cabana (the ones used for beach massage) and we were told "Si! We can arrange that with the Peninsula
restaurant (the one by the pool). They light it with candles and bring in a table with chairs. Its a great idea for a special anniversary or birthday dinner or for a romantic marriage proposal. (pay attention guys! your woman will say YES if do this)
Anyway I can go on and on but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to write me.
My friends and I are already looking forward to return visit in a few months and will only stay at the Fiesta Americana. They earned our loyalty.
For those of you who like TimeShares, they have them and they are in a separate buidling and called the Vacation Club. I am not interested in timeshares and they never bothered me about them. I would much rather stay in the Grand Club area as I don't want to even see a kitchen when on vacation.
