My family and I (my parents, husband, brother and sister-in-law) just returned from a week staying at Fiesta Americana and we were less than impressed. Let me begin by saying that we have been traveling throughout the world and that we have stayed in many different places of varying price. In fact, we have been to Cabo numerous times before and decided to stay at Fiesta Americana because the rooms were most affordable.
The day we arrived there, December 22, we were all tired and hungry. It was about 4:00 and we wandered down to find something to eat. When we got to the pool area (the only restaurant that was open to eat at during the day) we found that the main pool was under construction as was the restaurant (the restaurant was back in its usual place the next day). My sister-in-law is a vegetarian who doesn't eat shell-fish and there was literally NOTHING on the menu at all for her. Even the salads had meat.
When we got into our rooms, my husband I found that one of the robes in the closet had blood on it. Also, one of the pillow cases on the bed had mascara and lipstick on it. We called the front desk to tell them the situation and they told us they would contact housekeeping to take care of it. That night when we returned from dinner, there was a robe back in our closet and we thought nothing of it. The next day when we got back from the pool (main pool still under construction and there were very few seats at the other, smaller pools--all were gone by 9 when I went down for a chair) I pulled out the robe and low and behold, it was the same, robe, blood still on it. I called and asked to speak with a manager and was told it would be taken care of. Someone then called me back and said they were out of robes and assured me that a robe would be in my room the next morning.
Of course the next day, there was no robe and my husband went to complain. He returned with 2 brand-new robes which we were told to take home with us. He was also told the manager would contact him to discuss ways to make it up to us (no one ever called).
The main pool was functional the 4th day we were there (that would be Christmas Day) and we didn't understand why the construction wasn't completed before the holiday rush. By the way, the re-tiling they did was for no reason because the tiles continued to fall off throughout the week. The pool restaurant was always crowded and after 4 days, they changed the menu to offer more choices, undoubtedly after many complaints of the limiting menu.
The food at the breakfast buffet was cold most days which is weird because we were there as it opened most days at 7. The pool wait staff rarely walked around to offer drinks. Towels were often not left in our rooms after they were made up on numerous occasions and complimentary toiletries were not replaced (i.e. body soap and lotion). Floors not swept. Turn-down service was inconsistent. The internet in the business center was slow and often computers were not working which meant there was a long wait. On top of everything else, the bill we received was much more expensive then we were quoted (by over $200 USD).
On the bright side, there were some wonderful waiters and the valet desk did a wonderful job taking care of the two cars we had rented (a must in Cabo because the taxis are so expensive!) Our room did have a beautiful view and the bathroom was nice. The nice restaurant in the hotel, Rosato, was wonderful and had great food and wonderful service.
Over all, this hotel which is listed as a 4.5-5 star hotel doesn't deserve that high of a rating.
