I visited the Hotel Finnestera on honeymoon in Sept 05 and absolutley loved it. It is a beautiful hotel, in a stunning location. We had a room in the Palapa Beach Club which was a bit more expensive than the standard, but the view itself was worth it.

Generally Cabo was slightly more expensive than we had thought but this hotel was great. Service was great and the facilities are excellent. We had some great help from the concierge on trips and excursions, and pool/bar staff were very helpful and friendly!

The Wale Watcher bar was a beautiful place to sit in the evening and watch the sunset over a cocktail...and doubles up as a fantastic breakfast room!

Loved the place, and next time i hope to be back during the whale season!!!

My husband and I just returned from Cabo , we had such a marvelous experience. We liked the hotel. It had great customer service and a friendly staff, especially at the bars and restaurants, they do there best to help you. The rooms in the new section are large and very clean with all the amenities you need. The food is very tasty with a nice presentation. And well the drinks...can never go wrong with that!!! The hotel is on a cliffside, spectacular view of the ocean, the marina is 5 minutes away. There is a shuttle to go up and down the steep hotel at your disposal. Very windy and cooler at night because of the altitude and the marina is nearby so bring a sweater. The temperature gets so high..105 degrees sometimes, thank goodness for the windy breeze. We visited Medano beach, The Arch, Lovers Beach and ofcourse walked down to the Marina to access the restaurants, taxi boats, the shopping plazas etc. There is a lot of development in Cabo as the tourists and time sharers are investing a lot of money and it no longer will be a quiet fishing village as it was once, already the big chains of hotels are there and the big shopping malls are up. We walked into town and there you get a feeling of old Cabo. We really had a good time walking and the views of the rock formations are incredible especially the waves that come crashing into the rocks..what a feeling. The only thing we disliked were the constant beach vendors trying to sell stuff on the beach, but I did all my shopping sitting in the sun , and remember to bargain. We forgot our passports in our room whwn we were at the airport to return home..we called the hotel and they sent a cab to bring us our tickets and passports we were happy , I was surprised they were quick eventhough it cost us 63usd to have them sent, they could of refused to send someone at all, so we were pleased.

Some of the reviews have had comments of the undesirablity of the older section of the Hotel. The Unit we stayed in the B Section must have been remodeled with a large bathroom with a tub/shower combo and marble walls, a very comfortable firm bed, a seating area with chair and sofa bed and a balcony overlooking the new section, beach and ocean. We found it very nice but spent only sleeping time there. It was actually better for us since it was closer to the Whale Watcher Bar for 2 for 1 from 1400 to 1600 and the Blue Marlin.

There is a free shuttle from the street to the Lobby to avoid the "hill". If you are in the older section and ask the driver, he will take you all the way up to your part of the Hotel.

As others have mentioned, the pool and beach area are basically a private section of Cabo San Lucas since access is limited by the Rocks of Los Arcos to the South and more rocks to the north. Swimming is prohibited off the beach due to strong currents and undertow.

We ate both breakfast and dinner at the Blue Marlin in the older section of the Hotel and the food was good although not exceprtional.

If you are booked into the older section, don't panic and take a look first especially of ypu get a better rate.

Compare the two beach pictures to see if the Hotel Finisterra is right for you. If you’re looking for the beach scene shown in the first picture, try the Melia San Lucas or Pueblo Bonita resorts on el Medano beach. But if you prefer the beach in the second picture, book the Finisterra. My wife and I choose this resort because we wanted to be close enough to walk to town, but we also wanted peace and quiet at the hotel and on the beach. And what a beach! Pristine sand and blue, blue water with no jet skis, glass bottom boats, nor venders buzzing about. This beach is for taking a long walk, laying in a hammock, or striking a lotus pose.

I give the Finisterra only four stars because there are swankier five star resorts out on the Corridor. But the hotel and grounds are as groomed and neatly maintained as any of them. We were there the week of April 9, 2006 and stayed in the newer section called the Palapa Beach club. All rooms in the new section are ocean view, though I would recommend staying above the third floor to get the best view. Also, rooms on the far west end (X01-06) get some noise from air conditioning ducts and the pool pump house, which can drown out the sound of the waves.

The pool complex is first rate. All construction looked finished. All pools were heated, perhaps too much. Some variety of temperatures would be nice. We never had a problem finding a chaise by the pools at any time of day. The staff was great. They left you alone or catered to you depending on your request. My only complaint was the knuckleheaded D.J. that showed up with his loudspeakers and sound equipment for an hour or two some afternoons to try to get a party going. But hey, it was happy hour.

The older section sits higher up the cliff face. I question the ocean view from some of these rooms as some appeared obstructed by the newer section and the time-share monstrosity called the Playa Grande still being built next door. (We heard no construction noise, however.)

Have fun!

I stayed at the Finisterra over easter. I've also stayed at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. They are rated about the same... and for the most part if you book in advance, around the same price range. Sunset beach is BY FAR superior. I stayed in the "new" section of the finisterra and i thought it was pretty dirty. For instance, there was a small throw carpet in my room.. i dont know if there was moisture underneath it in the past, but the rubber plus a little mold on top was stuck to the floor - and it must have been there for some time.

All in all, it was just ok, but i would not go back. I would most definitely go back to PB sunset..(also, most beds in mexico are hard like a rock, but not at the PB).

The pluses... the pools were nice and the pool bar was good too (the bartenders were great). There are activities for kids (which the PB doesn't really have).

So.. in short, if you want to do cabo on the cheap, and are extremely budget conscious, and/or have kids... go to the finisterra.
