“In love with this resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2006

I just returned from the Finesterra today and can't say enough about this fine resort. Close to everything, stunning views from out oceanview balcony on the 7th floor. The Whale Watcher bar is a must do. Friendly service and beautiful exclusive beach. We will go back next year! I will miss cabo. Must do's Ruth Chris, Cabo Wabo, Gallions, the Office, Alexander's, Dorians. Do the Sunrider, saw many whales, all you can eat and drink, paid $45. Well worth it, a fun time! If you do the timeshare thing, hold out for GOOD Freebies, like massages and free golf.

We have owened a time share at the finisterra for ten years. We have made some very nice friends over the years. We look forward each year to our vacation at the finisterra. The hotel staff have always treated us with the highest respect, and cannot do enough to make our stay enjoyable. The beds may not be the softest in the world, I have stayed in very few hotels were the beds have been soft enough for me. My husband likes a firm bed. I must say I love the pools, but I do not understand why the bottom pool is not heated. Every year I am told that they are going to heat the bottom pool, but it hasn't happen as of yet. This year our family (12)in all are comming with us to celebrate our 40th annaveristy. I'll let you know how it turns out. We like the short distrance to town, ten minutes and you are almost anywhere down town. We will most likely come back to the Finisterra for the next ten years.

We were 3 couples in our mid 20's looking for a relaxing good time. We found everything and more at the hotel Finisterra and Cabo. When you first enter the hotel you are surrounded by cliffs and waterfalls. The grounds and hotel are kept very clean. We stayed in the the old section and were more then pleased. The room was very large with a deck facing the ocean. Our room was literally hanging on the edge of a cliff. There is a lot of walking involved with this hotel but it is not so bad. It would take us maybe 3 minutes to walk to the pool and we were probably the farthest away. The Whale Watcher Bar is beautiful with views out of a postcard. We saw a few whales and dolphins from there.

The location of this hotel is great. We walked everywhere and it never took more then 20 minutes. All of the big resorts were about a 15 minute drive out. I would highly recommend this hotel to all walks of life. There were a few families but mostly couples of all ages relaxing and drinking by the pool. It is not a place where there are loud pool games or where you would hang out there all night long but you don't need to being in a place like Cabo!

A little Cabo insight: There is a bar outside of Cabo Wabo that sells 2 beers for $4.00 and tequila shots for $2.00. You pay double that inside the bar. Also the liquor stores have 20 packs of beer for about $20. The Office is a must but the vendors do get very annoying. We went on the ATV tour through Moto Rentals and had a blast. Amazing beach ride and views. Also the Bucaneer Sunset Cruise is a great time. The staff is fun and the views are beautiful. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Most of the reviews on the Finisterra are accurate, it all depends how much you care about things. The only major issue on the trip was the water pump breaking leaving us without water from 10am until 6pm (we were out most of the day). Reception told us that the gym showers were still working and called as soon as the water was back.

The location is great (10min walk to marina) and the steep hill is steep, but only for about 100 yds. We couldn't believe that people used to sit and wait for the shuttle up a short hill that took about 30 seconds and was a good after dinner workout.

The grounds are gorgeous. The pools fabulous, but yes the lower one is cold, but that means no kids.

The rooms (new part although who knew it was new!) were clean, freshly painted and very large. The beds were average, not cushy, but we all slept fine.

Breakfast was buffet, slightly expensive, but very nice ambience and view.

Overall the hotel is fine, looks a little dated especially next to the Playa Grande next door and the pictures of Keith Richards wedding in the lobby from 1983!! But if you like location, pools and only need a room to sleep in, while enjoying the sun, fishing and landscape pick here!

I was a little worried when we booked our room at the Finisterra only because I had read complaints about the staff and rooms on Trip Advisor before we arrived. If your priority is to be in the middle of the action (that is, not have to take a taxi to get into town) and relax in an awesome pool during the day, this is your place. The walk really wasn't that bad, it's a little bit of a hill, but we managed it fine. We also discovered that after a night out, it really wasn't very expensive to hop in a taxi to take you from say mid-marina to the hotel, if needed (and you were wearing high heels).

The pool was great. I loved the swim up bar and happy hour specials. You sorta forget that a beach is even there-- minus the view, there isn't much more to do on the beach since it isn't safe to swim.

My complaints are the following:

We booked a king size bed on expedia and upon arrival were told that the king wasn't available. They wanted to stick us with 2 full size beds. We told them we would wait for the king and that we were disappointed with their response to our request. After talking to the manager, and asking politely enough, they accomodated us with a king size bed and awesome view on a top floor. It could've been luck that we were accommodated but that little bit of customer service made our entire stay better.

The beds just plain s---. They are cardboard boxes covered in a sheet. Honestly though, by the end of the night I was barely awake walking into my room to notice -- if you are not active during the day and look forward to a nice soft bed at night this is not your place. I know that bad night's sleep can ruin your whole mood and if that's your priority, I'd think twice about this place.

Overall, we'd go back in a heartbeat. I love walking everywehre and the party atmosphere of the pool (at least around happy hour). We also weren't bothered by any timeshare people.

Hope this helps!

I read the reviews on this website prior to my trip so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. The location is one of the best in Cabo, especially if you want to be close to bars & restaurants. It is a short walk to the marina, where you can stop for breakfast before getting on a water taxi to beaches.

Another plus was the pool area, which was large enough so that you didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a lounge chair like some other vacation hotels. Also, the prices were very reasonable at the pool bar, even for frozen drinks.

As the other reviewers noted, the rooms are very disappointing and the beds are ridiculously uncomfortable. I woke up with a backache every morning and looked forward to the lounge chairs at the pool or the beach.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel but mainly due the location.

This is just a very average hotel. I am sure that it was excellent 20 years ago, but they have not maintained the infrastructure as well as they could have. The door to our bathroom would barely close as the frame was warped, and the room looked well used. We supposedly had an ocean view suite, but you could barely see the ocean at all. When we checked in, the front desk assured me that it was fine to drink the tap water but the bellman that delivered our bags to the room said definitely do not drink it, as did some other people we met that had stayed there before. One day the water pump for the hotel broke and we were without any water for about 8 hours........not sure if this a common occurance. The employees of the hotel were very nice and the food was OK.
