We booked our trip for the "older" section of the Finisterra b/c the newer, Palapa section was booked -- I thought I would "sweet talk" my way into the newer section once we got there, but no such luck (and I had blonde hair!). I had been very scared to stay in the older section b/c of prior reviews. However, we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Now, there is an "E" section and an "F" section (I think), and we stayed in the "E" section (E-29). Our room had a great view of the marina and the town - it was beautiful, especially at night! As for the room - no it is not brand-new, and I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would "redecorate" the rooms. But the rooms were fine -- nice tile floors, clean, ample closet space, etc, beautiful wood doors. And the shower was the BEST part! That water pressure was great, it was hot, and it was a big, open shower!! Another plus was the great maintenance staff -- we had a burnt out lightbulb and some toilet issues when we first got there, and I swear, they must have been hidden next door for as quickly as they arrived! The housekeeping girl was awesome, too. One downside to consider, however -- there is construction by the marina (a shame, really), so that may be a distraction, and there be noise in the morning that could be annoying (we slept with our doors open, so we could hear the bulldozer, but if you close the doors, it probably isn't that bad). Architecturally speaking, it is a shame that they built the newer section in such different style. The older section really does fit with the environment and is so beautiful -- the stone and structure of it is breathtaking. Anyway, I would definitely stay there again -- walking to restaurants, bars, and shopping is the BEST -- If you want to party, you can hop over to Medano beach, or you can stay at Finisterra and chill. I would never stay at one of the farther-out resorts. And for the price, you just cannot beat Finisterra!!

Stumbled onto the Finisterra via the internet. Walked into paradise. Very laid back, low key. No pressure. No high pulse activity. Great views, whale watching from bar, good food, close enough to walk to everything. We've been back 3 times. Going back again and again.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Location was perfect - a 15 minute walk to town. Great to avoid the crowds and really relax. Also good to walk off the dinners at night. Rooms were spacious and clean. Staff was helpful especially in restaurant recommendations. We arrived @3 pm and our room was not only not ready, when we did get in, the room was not what we had confirmed we would get. However, the next day we were in a room that met all our requests. Be careful with room selection. Rooms west of the lobby back up to a very loud, whole building, air conditioner unit whose fans run 24/7. Try to get a room to the east of the lobby in the new section.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by a hostess. This person appears to be welcoming you to the Hotel and is ready to answer any questions you may have. Their real purpose is to line you up to take a 75 min tour/sales pitch for a time share. Your reward for this tour is one of a number of selections. Most people take a $100 US dollar credit, good at the Finisterra. But make no mistake, this is a sales pitch. We went to the sales pitch, did not purchase and went to pick up our gift. We were given the gift and then passed on to another person who tried to get us to go on another tour/sales pitch. I am going into detail on this so that potential visitors will have the option of avoiding this experience.

I will answer any email inquiries regarding the Finisterra.

We arrived on Monday 4/11/05. The weather was sunny, 84 and dry. The view was breathtaking. The hotel is built on a cliff and rocks are integrated into the architecture. A beautiful place. Prepare to hike to your room if it is facing the marina.(We were told that these rooms are were time-share rooms, although we weren't timeshare guests...hmmm) The road is very steep and rocky; it is about 3 blocks up the hill from the street. We had a group of 4. 2 males in one room and 2 females in the next. We booked 6 weeks in advance and expected to be accomodated adequately. The men were in one building we were in another; each room had one bed. We had to change rooms twice each, until they could give all of us our own bed. The guys were given a beautiful room overlooking the marina on the back side of the hotel; the room had a balcony, full kitchen and a couch. The women were given a much smaller room with another block to climb up the hill: a basic 2 beds with no extras, but the room was clean. In the morning the shower, which had no hot water, flooded the entire floor of the room and soaked some of our belongings. We called the front desk and requested a new room and they sent a bellman down to help with our things in an hour. Our next room had a balcony, but it was another block up a steep hill. The plumbing in this room was also in need of repair, the sink was plugged. The food at the hotel was delicious. The pool was heated with several jacuzzis and a swim-up bar. The restaurant at the top of the hill had the most fantastic view ....well worth the visit. Beware of obtaining cash; we were sent several blocks into town to a bank atm which claimed to be in english but in reality only delivered pesos; with a hefty charge of $7.50 per transaction, a $200. takeout was in fact, only worth about $19. Several guests at the hotel said that they got a one-time withdrawl of $100. at the front desk, but when I requested it, I was rejected. They sent me back to the bank. The money situation and the plumbing, left me in tears. I spoke to a superviser, Rosita, who offered a free meal for the inconvienence. The men in our group received excellent service; the women were treated adequately. Take a camera and were a good pair of sneakers. If you can speak spanish you will get better treatment so please learn a little. Take the tours and ride a boat. Life can be a real adventure here!

My partner and I along with another couple spent our Thanksgiving Holiday this past year in Cabo and were TOTALLY IMPRESSED with the service we recieved at Hotel Finisterra. Our vacation started off very rough due to airline problems (losing our luggage for 3 days, delays, etc.).
The staff at the hotel was made aware of the difficulty we had and went out of their way to make our stay there "worry and stress free". We have travelled extensively all over Mexico and have always had great service but the Finisterra Staff were all the greatest we have experienced. The hotel itself is GORGEOUS and the on-site restraunt had EXCELLENT food. When returning to Cabo, we DEFINITELY will not consider anywhere else but the Finisterra. I hope the owner of this hotel recognizes what GREAT employees he/she has. GREAT PLACE! GREAT LOCATION! GREAT FOOD! GREAT SERVICE!
