We booked our trip for the "older" section of the Finisterra b/c the newer, Palapa section was booked -- I thought I would "sweet talk" my way into the newer section once we got there, but no such luck (and I had blonde hair!). I had been very scared to stay in the older section b/c of prior reviews. However, we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Now, there is an "E" section and an "F" section (I think), and we stayed in the "E" section (E-29). Our room had a great view of the marina and the town - it was beautiful, especially at night! As for the room - no it is not brand-new, and I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would "redecorate" the rooms. But the rooms were fine -- nice tile floors, clean, ample closet space, etc, beautiful wood doors. And the shower was the BEST part! That water pressure was great, it was hot, and it was a big, open shower!! Another plus was the great maintenance staff -- we had a burnt out lightbulb and some toilet issues when we first got there, and I swear, they must have been hidden next door for as quickly as they arrived! The housekeeping girl was awesome, too. One downside to consider, however -- there is construction by the marina (a shame, really), so that may be a distraction, and there be noise in the morning that could be annoying (we slept with our doors open, so we could hear the bulldozer, but if you close the doors, it probably isn't that bad). Architecturally speaking, it is a shame that they built the newer section in such different style. The older section really does fit with the environment and is so beautiful -- the stone and structure of it is breathtaking. Anyway, I would definitely stay there again -- walking to restaurants, bars, and shopping is the BEST -- If you want to party, you can hop over to Medano beach, or you can stay at Finisterra and chill. I would never stay at one of the farther-out resorts. And for the price, you just cannot beat Finisterra!!
