My fiance and I stayed at the Finisterra the first week of August in 2004. We had the most relaxing and fun time in Cabo, but really couldn't have been happier with the Finisterra. The people of Mexico were the most friendly we have met, and the location of the hotel really cannot be beat. It is a 5 minute walk into town through the marina and that is a major plus when you want to go to dinner or have a few drinks -- no taxi needed! Also, something to keep in mind when choosing a Cabo hotel: someone told us that staying on the Pacific side of town (where Finisterra is) is best in the summertime b/c it is 10 degrees cooler than on the Sea of Cortez side -- that means it is more like 90-ish as opposed to 100...big difference! Much more tolerable. The pools were awesome at the hotel and the afternoon breeze off the Pacific could not be beat. Delphino was the best waiter at the pool who always had our Pacificos ready during happy hour and on ice! If you are looking for an affordable, convenient, and lovely option in Cabo, you HAVE to stay at the Finisterra!

My wife and I just returned from a week's stay at the Finisterra (Jan 30 - Feb 6) and were, by and large, happy with the hotel and its facilities. The location is great -- you are downtown and in waking distance to everything. The staff were all very friendly, very nice and very helpful. We had a room in the old section with a view of the bay rather than the ocean-- the room was fine, especially since we were outside almost all of the time and the view was lovely. I liked Finisterra because it was low key especially compared to Playa Grande, its next door neighbor. Our only bad experience was a loud and drunk neighbor. After the second night of being woken at 2:00 in the morning, I complained to the manager (the staff was unwilling to do anything) and was transferred to another room.

We recently got back from a 7 day trip Jan17th - Jan24th. The Hotiel Finisterra was more than we expected. We upgraded to the Palapa beach club room which was a wise investment. You are closer to the pool area and beach. The pool bar is awesome we spent hours and hours there drinking pinapple drinks and play volleyball. The beach is free of vendors..didn't see one. The food at the Palapa is great. We had nachos and the burrito. It was probably the best food we had the whole time down there. We didn't get a chance to eat at the Whale Watchers resturaunt but it looks very nice. The Whale Watchers bar is a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset. Everthing is very new and clean. The location is the best...you are a very short walk from the marina and downtown nightlife. I highly recomend taking a taxi if you plan to party late at night. I walked home alone one night at about 1:30am and got robbed by a carload of locals with a golf club about 100 feet from the street entrance to the hotel. There was no violence I simply handed over all my money and the they took off. Take taxi's it's worth the $6 dollars. If you like tacos go to Pepes...it's about two blocks down from El Squid Roe.

My wife and I spent Jan 20-25, 2005 in Cabo. This was our 6th visit and we've stayed at the Finisterra all 6 times. We always stay in the Palapa Beach Club rooms. The older section is adequate, but is further away from the pool and the rooms are showing their age. While I would not consider the Finisterra in the same class as the Ventanas al Paradiso or La Palmilla, this is a great hotel, with a great location (Pacific side, but close to downtown) and wonderfully friendly staff and all our needs were met. We're not into spa treatments or daily activities or 5 star gourmet dining. We like to lay on the beach (with no vendors) and/or by the pool and relax, read a good book, at night stroll downtown for dinner and generally enjoy each other's company. The Finisterra gives us all that and a wonderfully friendly an attentive staff to go with it.

We will continue to make the Finisterra our hotel of choice when we visit Cabo.

I was terribly disappointed with our experience at the Finisterra. We booked one of the new rooms through Expedia, and requested a very quiet room as high up as possible. When we checked in, we were put in a dark room on the very bottom floor, right underneath a stairwell and a maid's closet. All night we heard the slapping of shoes on the stairs and early in the morning we heard the racket of the maids getting their carts together. We had told the front desk that we wanted to switch rooms when we first checked in, and they were very unappologetic and unaccomodating, basicaly had a "tough luck" attitude. After a sleepless night, we wanted to get our money back and go elsewhere, which they said they couldn't do because we booked through Expedia. (Note: this hotel used Expedia as an excuse for terrifically shoddy customer service. They knew you were stuck there, because they "couldn't" refund the money, so they didn't care in the least whether or not you were happy.) We spoke to the manager, who said he would try to move us to another room, and this time "quiet" was our only request. He moved us to a room on the second floor that opened directly onto the lobby, so all night we heard the music that was piped into the lobby 24 hours a day. It came through the door, my earplugs, and two pillows I had over my head. A call to the front dest at 2:30 am did nothing, as I was told the office was locked and he didn't have the key. The next morning my husband asked for us to be moved to the old section, which seemed a lot quieter (and had a lot more character.) Again, Expedia was used as the excuse why they wouldn't refund the difference of the two rooms. Finally, we were in a quiet room, but the king bed was sunken in the middle and we both had sore backs the next day. Late on the last night of our stay, the front desk called and told us we had a $100 credit for food and drinks that no one informed us of when we checked in. The next morning, we were told that we had no such credit and we never received that phone call. Save yourself the aggrivation and stay elsewhere...I wish we had.
