We returned to the Hotel Finisterra October 8-15, for the second time. We were traveling with another couple -- all of us are in our early 30's. Once again we were all extremely pleased with this hotel. It's a smaller hotel with wonderful pools and a great swim-up bar. (Buy one, get one drinks from 2-4 p.m. at the pool. Then the Whale Watcher bar has buy one, get one drinks from 4-6 p.m.) Hard to get lost at this cozy location.
Before arriving, we requested two rooms next to each other on a higher level of the Palapa Beach section of the hotel. Both of our requests were granted. Our room was very clean with a great ocean view! Our only complaint about the room was how noisy the air conditioner was. It worked well though -- you could have stored meat in there after my husband was done setting the temperature. (Note to wives and girlfriends: pack warm clothes, socks and slippers for sleeping!) Surprisingly, the beds and pillows are very comfortable. Hotel beds and pillows are usually hard as a cement slab in my opinion.
There is construction going on right next door but we had a room on that very end of the hotel (401) and were never disturbed by any construction noise at all. I think that most of the noisy outside stuff is done and they are working more on the inside of the buildings at this point.
Food is pretty good at Finisterra. The pool grill was our favorite food there. The papas fritas (french fries) are incredible along with the chicken quesadillas. My husband and friends loved the burgers at the pool grill. The breakfast (pancakes and waffles) was really good up at the Blue Marlin. The pizza at the Whale Watcher didn't impress us much. Captain Tony's in the Marina has good pizza.
The location of this hotel is excellent! It's on Solmar Beach which is a no-swimming beach, but the peace and quiet you get from this area is second to none. There may be no swimming, but there are also no vendors, and the sound of the crashing waves is exactly what most hope to listen to while on a tropical vacation. After returning from the awesome Cabo nightlife, we spent several nights laying in the beach hammocks listening to the waves.
Medano Beach... this is where you can swim. A 5-minute walk to the Marina and a less-than 5-minute water taxi ride ($3 per person) over to the beach and you are in the chaos of daytime partying in Cabo! (A taxi will cost you more than the water taxi and the water taxi is a lot more fun!) The Mango Deck is our absolute favorite with awesome entertainment Monday through Saturday. (Sundays are quiet.) Happy hour all day with buy one, get one drinks. Fun party games and lots of people watching! Their Chicken Quesadillas are the best thing I ate in Cabo. Keep in mind that there are a LOT of vendors at this beach.
Nightlife... if you're into CRAZY partying, like loud music and dancing on tables, hit the El Squid Roe. If you're in the mood to listen to a good band hit the Cabo Wabo Cantina -- hopefully Sammy Hagar will be playing when you're there! He puts on a GREAT show! Their house band is really good, too. If you're in the mood to hang out, talk, and have a few beers, go to Rip's bar right out back of the Cabo Wabo Cantina. Ask them for the "Rainbow Shots"... you won't be disappointed in this amazing demonstration! Nine shots poured from the same mixer cup and they are all different colors of the rainbow. We still don't have a CLUE how they do that! All of these places are within walking distance of the Finisterra which is why we consider Finisterra to be the perfect location. Comfortable resort with walking distance to everything.
