The Finisterra is a great location in Cabo if not the best! You have everything at your doorstep! This is our 5th trip to Mexico and our 1st to Cabo. We definatly would go back to Cabo due to not one day of rain! Be prepared to get hot and sunburned. We all have such bad sunburns, that we spent one day out of the sun. Even my husband who has olive skin blistered!
THE HOTEL: Nice hotel, friendly staff but we did not feel "spoiled" like we had at other places (Westin, Riu palace ). I do agree the pool area could be kept cleaner and our first day the pool side service was none. However, 2nd day service was much better. Food was mostly great. I would not recommend this hotel for families with teens however. Our son is very outgoing and connected with a lot of (older) people (he OWNED the pool vollyball games) but in the 9 days we stayed, he only met one other 16 yr old boy. I also agree with previous reviews that this is not a good hotel for singles. It is great for families with young kids and older couples. The one negative thing to share is when it came to the "cruise ship" visitors. We actually had fun with some families from the Disney cruise. But where it went bad was when they let some of the staff from one of the boats come and spend the day. They were young (20-25) which is okay, but they took over the activity pool and were loud and drunk. I understand that it was there 1st day off in weeks, but I did not spend MY money on a family vacation to listen to them scream and yell and take over the pool we had been occupying for days. One other hotel guest had to ask them to move so she and her friends could get into the pool. Beware of the timeshare ladies greeting you after check in with their "Welcoming" package. Saying no after a few days and they will leave you alone. The timeshare people are everywhere, but just say no and they will reduce their greeting to a "Good morning beautiful family".
MISC: Food is great everywhere! We loved Mia Casa (hard to find-take a bike taxi then walk back to hotel), Alexanders,Ponchos, Wamongo and Senior Sweets for breakfast and dessert. I did not care too much for Cabo Wabo. Main dish was great, but sides were very bland and needed bread with my Tequila shirmp to soak up all the yummy sauce. My drink was too strong and I had to send it back. Menu is very limited. As far as shopping, everything is right there on the marina! The art and crafts market is great for deals if you know what you want. However, the next day we went back to get another braclet I wanted and they would not budge on the price-Carnival Cruise ship was in. Market is to the right of the hotel on the boardwalk.
The only activity we booked was the Sunrider sunset cruise and it was awesome! Good food, beautiful views and super fun staff. We researched the ATV's but heard that they can be somewhat dangerous driving very close to the cliffs. We had done the Pirate boat cruise on a visit to P.V., but this one looked smaller and not as fun.
All in all, the Finisterra is a great location, great hotel but do to our son's age, we would either bring a friend or look at another hotel in the same area. The location cannot be beat! Oh, one last ramble- some people have complained about the "climb" up the hill to the hotel, we actually enjoyed it, but we are an active family. However, the hotel does offer shuttle service up and down the hill.
Have a great stay in Cabo!!

My husband, daughter, her boyfriend, and myself booked a five night stay at Finistera through Expedia. We knew the price was for the old section, not the new. However, we were delighted to be given two rooms in the new section right on the ground level by the garden due to renovations in the old section. Perfect!! The first morning however, my husband and I found ourselves locked out of our room for two hours due to a faulty lock. We were in wet bathing suits and had nothing but wet towels to keep us company while maintenance went into town to find a new lock. The front desk offered no apology, but maintenance finally broke in via the sliding window. We decided not to let their lack of customer service stop a great vacation. The rest of the week went Ok except maintenance kept coming into our room to check a leaky air conditioning unit on a daily basis. Strange, because we did not complain. There was construction going on next door, so we pretty much had to listen to drills and hammers while at the pool. Not the hotel's fault. WE loved our location, the pools are wonderful (especially early in the morning and late at night) and the location of the hotel perfect. On our last day my daughter became very ill and the concierge immediately called a pharmacy and had drugs and Gatorade delivered to the hotel within 30 minutes. My family would definitely return to the Finistera.

My husband surprised me with a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for our 2nd wedding anniversary. He could not have picked a more perfect hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Finisterra which sits on a mountain side on the back side of the popular Cabo marina. Since the hotel sits on a mountain side, there are amazing views of the marina, Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean.

We got a great deal on an ocean-view suite (about $145 per night!). The suite had older decor, however it was very large and had a great balcony overlooking the pools and Pacific Ocean. This hotel is on the beach, however since it's on the Pacific Ocean side, you can't get in the water much of the year because of the strong undertow and currents...not to mention the water is a brisk 70-75 degrees. I personally didn't mind since we spent our time at the 3 great pools they have...all the while seeing the beautiful ocean from our lounges.

The service at this hotel was superb and the staff were so friendly. We would definitely go back for a return stay at the same hotel.

The great aspect of this hotel is that it's situated on the back side of the marina and on the Pacific side. There are many, many vendors that approach people constantly at the marina and the touristy beaches on the Sea of Cortez (Medano Beach). We were "protected" from all of this because this hotel is on the back side of everything...we LOVED this. We did end up walking on the marina's boardwalk every morning and every night, but it was our choice...and it is literally just a 5 minute walk from this hotel.

We talked to many other tourists who stayed outside of the city and they said they always ended up coming back in to town to have dinner at the marina. Many said they would have rather stayed in town.

One thing to note about Cabo: For those of you who have never traveled to Mexico, be prepared to be approached immediately at the airport to attend timeshare presentations. If you are good at saying "no" and not feeling bad about saying no, then attending these presentations is a great way to get free breakfast and free activities. We attended 2 early morning presentations at Casa Dorado (beautiful!) and Playa Granda (next to the Hotel Finisterra). My husband and I added up everything we got for free and it was about $700 worth of activities and cash (free ATV rides on the beach, free dinner cruise, $100 dinner voucher, free glass bottom boat ride to Lands End, $90 cash for airport transportation and a free snorkeling cruise!)! The timeshare people will try to make you feel guilty and stupid for saying no. Just remind them that they invited you and that the free gifts are just reimbursement for the time you spent on your vacation listening to their sales pitch.

Overall, we felt that the Hotel Finisterra is the most perfect place in Cabo to stay. We were totally impressed and would recommend this place to everyone!

We stayed in a sudio room with king size bed overlooking the pool. Room was clean with more than enough space. Huge balcony. View was excellent. Staff was very helpful and friendly..especially Pablo our waiter during happy hour almost every day at the pool. pool was great. Hammocks on the beach were nice. Great location and walking distance.
