My fiancee and I stayed at the Finisterra from June 21-27. We absolutely loved everything about our stay. We will definately go back. We stayed in the new section, the Palapa. Here's a review and rating of each aspect of our stay:
Room and Grounds: 4.5 out of 5.
The room was just your basic room, nothing fancy. We stayed on the 4th floor in Room 404 and had a great view of the ocean and pools. We saw several great sunrises from our room, too. The maids clean the rooms everyday and do a fantastic job. My only gripe was that the light bulbs in the bathroom and vanity area were really dim. But, that's being REALLY nit-picky. Other than that, the room was great. The grounds and pool are very nice. The pool water was really refreshing. The pool could have used a skimming once or twice while we were there, but that's also being nit-picky. The beach is not swimable, but it is absolutely gorgeous to look at.
Service: 10 out of 5.
The service was outstanding. We ate at the Whale Watcher bar and restaurant several nights and mornings and never had bad service. They went above and beyond our expectations - and we tipped them accordingly. We sat at a rickety table one night and our server, without us asking him, came and replaced the table for us. The drink service around the bar was outstanding, too. All of the staff and the conceirge and activities desks were very helpful.
Food and Drink: 5 out of 5.
The food at the Whale Watcher bar was very yummy. I think we ate there 5 times and I only had 1 meal that was below par. Even it wasn't that bad. I had steak one night and it was surprisingly good. Most beef in Mexico isn't that good, so I was surprised. The drinks are great at the pools and the restaurant. You must try the Blue Hawaiian - very good. As far as food prices go, for two people you can expect to spend anywhere from $25-$50 for dinner and $15-$25 for breakfast. Drink prices are not that bad either. A Carona around the pool was $2.50 and they had happy hour (2 for 1) from 2 - 4 PM. Dos Equis were 2 for 1 all day at the pool bar. Happy hour includes mixed drinks, too. We took advantage of that. NOTE: Most of your food and drink bills will already have a 10% tip included. Make sure you check that closely so you don't over tip.
Off Resort: 5 out of 5.
We went to Cabo Wabo 3 times and had a blast, but it is pricey for food. The drinks are yummy, but not that expensive. A margarita will run you $7-$8. We had bills of $100 or more each time went there, but it was worth it because of how much fun we had. Entertainment is awesome there - live music and dance music. We did the Tropicat Jazz and Wine Cruise (which we did last year in Cabo) and it was a blast again. We ate at Peacock's in town. It has great ambiance and the food is really tasty. Dinner there might run you $60-$80.
Overall, our experience was great. At the Finisterra, you are literally within walking distance of the marina and downtown Cabo, which will also save you a fortune in cab fares. The hotel is beautiful and amazing. This was my second trip (in 2 years) to Cabo, so check out my review on the RIU Palace, too, if you are considering an all-inclusive. Since our trip in 2007 to the RIU Palace, they have expanded the resort by 500 rooms. It looks too big right now. I probably wouldn't go back there just for that reason. I would definately go back to the Finisterra. I will add photos of the Finisterra soon. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.
