This hotel is located directly opposite the west end of the marina, near the dolphin swim tank. It is also located on the beach of the Pacific Ocean (which is non-swimming). We booked with RCi as a trade.
A taxi would be $50-$60US. A shuttle works very well and is much less. www.transbaja.com for $18 pp. IMPORTANT – you are absolutely bombarded by timeshare sales people once you leave customs – they will call, poke, and even LIE to you and tell you that they are your shuttle company – look straight ahead and ignore them all!! Once you pass through the chaos, go out of the airport and turn to your right and go upstairs– all the taxis are right there. The shuttles are further down the sidewalk and to the right. The Transbaja shuttle people are now wearing beige shirts. We waited approximately 20-30 minutes to depart. The drive was less than an hour.
The rooms at the Finisterra are a little older but very clean. We didn’t like stepping into the tub for the shower as the blowing shower curtain made us crazy. The pools are lovely and the service is great. There are 3 tiers to the pools; some are quieter and some have more people chit chatting and listening to music. I think most rooms face the ocean. Our room also had a large kitchen table and kitchen area, which included a microwave, fridge and stovetop.
There is free wireless internet a few locations, one of which was the whale watchers restaurant, where we enjoyed breakfast every morning. The view is spectacular! (The whale season is Dec to March.)
One day we walked to lover’s beach, but there is a good climb up and over rocks!! There are plenty of water taxis that you can take back to the marina if you prefer. The cost is $3-5US.
GREAT CABO ACTIVITIES
Baja Wild – $65 pp – we were picked up at 8:30am from our hotel and driven to a beach were we KAYAKED to Santa Maria Beach and then Chileno Beach for SNORKELLING AT BOTH. The owner is American and he accompanied us. There were two other drivers who would meet us on each of the beaches. It was truly safe and fun – we did not feel rushed at all! If you are interested in this activity, remember the company name, as many companies do not offer this type of active package. We were home for 12:30.
GREAT RESTAURANTS
What we found was all restaurants, even the less expensive ones, provide fresh and tasty fish and sea food, but meat and chicken were not as tasty or tender from the cheaper restaurants. My husband ate raw fish virtually every day or night – either Sashimi or Ceviche, and he did not get sick. All of the restaurants seemed quite safe.
So, …these restaurants are all within walking distance downtown…
1. El Pollo de Oro – Cheap!!! Delicious rotisserie chicken, ribs, fish and the BEST TORTILLA SOUP!!! $24 covered two main entrées, 2 soups, 2 drinks and a tip!
2. Mi Casa – medium priced, authentic Mexican, delicious and very popular
3. Ponchos - medium priced, authentic Mexican, have a look at their tequila jar!
4. Nick San – expensive, delicious sushi and the best teriyaki chicken!
5. The Corner Bar – for drinks - you must try the Mango Margarita!
