“Good value for older hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

I stayed at the Hotel Finisterra from April 4th to April 11th, 2013. Two of us stayed in a large room with a view of the Pacific. We were in room 230 and it actually had a wifi signal there which was reasonably good on the balcony. This was a surprise as we were told that we needed to be in the lobby for wifi. Our room was large with two double beds and a small sitting area. The bathtub-toilet area was rather dark and dated but clean. There was some construction happening around the pool as well as next door but it was not noisy in the evening. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the hotel room so this noise was not bothersome. This hotel is in an excellent location and it's just a short walking distance from the marina, lover's beach, and the trailhead up to Mt. Solmar, the hill with the cross at the top. The beach, Playa del Solmar is almost deserted. When walking along the beach towards Lands End it's actually possible to get to Divorce Beach if you don't mind climbing over some boulders. The staff were helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that when requesting where to see a doctor we were referred to a private CLEARLY FOR PROFIT medical facility called CLINICA MEDICA rather than to a public hospital where a 18 hour overnight stay cost $6000. Also when ordering a taxi to take us back to the airport we had to pay the hotel in advance instead of paying the taxi driver as I'm used to doing not giving us the option to negotiate the price. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want wifi in your room ask to stay in room 230.

The room was beautiful and big with a separate sitting area and newly upgraded with soft beds. We had a beautiful ocean/pool view. The food was outstanding, exceptional for all inclusive. There were two restaurants open; one down by the pool and up on the hill - Blue Marlin. We ate off the menu lunch and dinner which included two lobster tails, steak, shrimp, sea bass, ceviche and mexican food. Breakfast was a buffet with cook to order eggs. Sandos is aiming for May 1st to be officially all inclusive for everyone. They are still building the buffet restaurant. The Blue Marlin will remain as a 5 star restaurant. Jensen gave great service at the Blue Marlin, and Norma at pool side gave constant service. Everyone was friendly. Front desk helpful. We were not bothered by time-share people.

I would have rated this as excellent except for the construction noise. Mostly didn't bother during the day by the pool area as the construction work was on the other side of the hotel rooms, until next to the last day when jackhammering around the top level pool. That was about done on our checkout day.

Room Tip: We were in 203 with window open we could hear the air conditioning at neighboring hotel, but could s...

This has been my most difficult review to date. First, I booked this hotel for 8 nights and only paid $116.00 per night. A very good rate. This property has a great location across the street from the Marina and is downtown. Pretty much any place you want to go near the marina or downtown is within walking distance and from the Marina a quick water taxi to the beach.

The accommodations were very clean but the rooms needed updating which they are in the process of doing. Though the hotel is located on the ocean, you cannot swim at the beach at the hotel because of the high surf and rip currents but it does have a beautiful view. The grounds are as nice as they look in the hotel website pictures and the pools well maintained. Lots of lounge seats available in the sand and around the pools.

Like all the area hotels they ask you to sit through a time share presentation which, at first I agreed to and then did not attend.

There was really no downside to this hotel and the staff was extremely attentive to any requests were friendly and professional. My only disappointment were the somewhat dated rooms but when you factor the price for the rooms, it was a very satisfactory value considering the hotels location and grounds.

Room Tip: Any high floor should give you and excellent view of the water.

This is a good, old hotel, recently bought by new owners and going through changes.
First, the location is great; at walking distance from the marina and downtown Los Cabos. This is really good, since you can walk to all kind of restaurantes, bars, nightclubs and for a few dollars it is easy to get to a reasonably well provided supermarket.
The best beaches are also quite close, walking or taking a water taxi from the marina you can get to the shores of the "Sea of Cortés", where you will find very confortable beach clubs to stay all day long, if you like the beach. The Finisterra's beach is not good for swimming, since it is not allowed to swim in the "Pacific", which is quite dangerous, even for experienced swimmers. Nevertheless, the resort has a very good, large swimming pool and the sights at sunset are really beautiful. The bar and restaurant at the pool is good and the prices are reasonable. So, you can stay at the hotel and it is also cool, but you would be missing the really good beaches of Los Cabos.
Our room was very large and comfortable, it was great having breakfast on the balcony, early in the morning. The TVs, refrigerator and some furniture and kitchen stuff were old or worn out, but everything was clean and worked properly.
Los Cabos is an excellent beach experience, every day is sunny, with a lot of things to do and at night you have great dining and night activity.
All in all, me and my wife loved Los Cabos and had a great time at Finisterra.

Room Tip: The hotel was going through changes and some noise was unavoidable from 7 am through 5 pm. So, it is...

If you are looking for luxury, this is not it. If you are looking for a great location, great view and nice people. this is your place. The Finisterra is a tired hotel. The rooms are clean but the beds, pull out couch, sheets, bedding and towels are from the 80's. The televisions (yes, they still have tube televisions) are artifacts. And in the age of technology, the Internet in the lobby is spotty at best; there is no internet access in your room. The property has apparently been taken over by Sandos (not Sandals) and they tried to suck us into a meeting but that's the last thing we wanted on a trip. The staff was incredibly nice and everyone had a smile. Finisterra is sandwiched between some beautiful resorts. If you just need a place to sleep and eat breakfast, this is your place.

Dear Lis dc1,

Thank you for your review. As you state we are going over an intense remodeling phase where all of our soft and hard goods will be changed.

We already have installed our new 39 inch HD TV´s in half of the resort and by the end of the month all rooms will have them. This is just a sample of the many improvements we are making.

We invite you to stop by during your next visit to Cabo to see what we have accomplished.

Saludos from Cabo,

Was her for a last minute getaway and couldn't have chose better regarding price and location. $111 a night ! Are you kidding! And walking distance down a short hill to marina. I was very happy with this selection. Not opulent and not for a honeymoon level but really clean and nice. Great po areas and service as well since its on ocean side so not able to go in water at beach but still a nice beach and view.

Staff and service were exceptional starting with ELizabthe, Eduardo & Miguel at the front desk. Alvaro, Jorge & Freddy are bellmen that are second to none. Rocelia & Lorena took special care of our room. Norma, Bow Wow and Joel provided great service at the pool.

We don't recommend the all inclusive as their are restaurants within walking distance. Alcohol consumption has increased with the new all inclusive offering along with noise into the late night hours.

While new owners are trying to upgrade, the place has seen better days. Rooms are dated with 20 yr. old couches and some missing furniture. Location is great.

Room Tip: Request a room with all furniture that is supposed to be there.

Thank you Cal 1942,

We do get several members of the vacation club that feel that the All Inclusive concept is not for them and we fully respect that.

On the other hand, after a conscious market research and industry trends more and more travelers are finding out about the benefits of staying at All Inclusive Resorts. Mainly for the savings this brings to their overall budget and by discovering the high quality in food & beverages as well as entertainment that our Sandos Resorts as well as many other chains bring offer to guests.

We hope that during you next visit to Cabo you give yourself the time to stop by and see all the changes and new additions that we have in place.

Thanks for your visit.
