After having stayed at many luxury resorts and expecting nothing but the best, I arrived at Esperanza with the highest of expectations...and almost all of them were met. Here's a peek into a stay at the resort: the minute you arrive at the airport you will not need to worry about a thing - you will be driven to the resort in a comfortable car (of course with chilled bottled water and towels); when you arrive, a team is waiting (a few people to take your luggage, one to help you out of the car, one to escort you through a brief tour of the resort on the way to your room). The rooms are incredibly spacious and each one has a terrace complete with a hammock and seating area (definitely ask for a room with an ocean view!). When we first arrived there was chilled lemonade and ice tea waiting, as well as fresh rose petals in the bathtub, and a welcome note. Fresh fruit and non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary and replenished on request. As we settled into our room, the spa called to offer us complimentary chair massages in our rooms which were much welcomed after a day of traveling. Pool service was also exceptional: buckets of chilled bottled water and towels, complimentary foot massages, and ipods and laptop computers for your use. The spa was phenomenal – you are treated to a fruit smoothie when you arrive; the spa lounge area is so beautiful and serene and the treatment that I got was wonderful (deep tissue massage). Once again there was lots of fruit, ice tea and water for your enjoyment. Also, the complimentary yoga and pilates classes in the mornings are a must (great instructors and small/intimate classes). Every morning, we would get room service (breakfast) on our terrace – the service was prompt (they even called once to notify me that they were running 5 minutes late) and if you order toast, they will bring a toaster to your room to toast the bread so that it is hot. Now to the thing that did not meet my expectations…..the food at the resort is good but not amazing. The standard breakfast and lunch fare hits the spot (sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, tacos, etc..), but the dinner cuisine (at both the Restaurant and La Palapa) are disappointing, especially when you are paying top dollar ($42 before the 10% tax and 15% gratuity charge…so $53 for a tenderloin of beef!). While the food was not memorable, everything else was. The resort is stunning and the service was exceptional.
