“Fantastic Authentic Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

It was such a pleasant suprize to have the owners come and interact with us, it kind of makes the evening. We came here solely on TA recommendation & reviews and yet again were not disappointed.
El Velero is a non tourist great Authenic Italian Restaurant with its owners cooking & running it themselves, nobody touting their menu under your nose
The food was delicious I had the Shrimp Pasta with cherry tomatoes with way to many shrimp it was delicious not swimming in tomatoe sauce but a light olive oil toss ( I think) my husband had the Salmon Pasta which he said was delicious
Stefano & Sandra ,We wish you all the luck for the future

“The best food I had while in Cabo San Lucas. Highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The food and the service were excellent! The owner and the chef are a married Italian couple, and the food they make is REAL Italian food. I ordered a ravioli dish which featured home-made stuffed ravioli, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, a delicious white sauce topped with freshly grated nutmeg. It was perfect! Everything was fresh, home-made, and delicious! My meal came with almond bread (never had it before), and that was amazing.

I've tried other "Italian" restaurants in Cabo San Lucas, but El Velero is the real deal. I honestly can say that I wish I had visited El Velero when I first arrived because I would've eaten there more often during my stay. The food is professional with good-sized portions.

The service was icing on the cake. The owners were very polite and friendly. I had a great time getting to know them. The chef came out personally to ask how I enjoyed the meal (the other restaurants never did that). Like I said, both are from Italy and you could tell by how good the food was there. El Velero is a restaurant I would recommend to any friend visiting Cabo San Lucas. I would definitely eat here again if I come back to Cabo.

I did get a little lost finding the restaurant. The best way to get to El Velero is to go South on Blvd. Paseo de La Marina. It's going to be on the right-hand side of the road just a couple dozen yards before you reach Hidalgo street. There's no street sign that sticks out over the sidewalk, so just look to the right when you're getting close so you won't miss it.

Finally, just as my own opinion about the previous review that gave it two stars:

1) Meat, when professionally done, does have some red color, especially near the bone.

2) For appearance, it's common to see some cheese baked around food on a plate. The almond bread that came with my meal had cheese baked on the plate around it. I could scoop up cheese with my almond bread as I ate, which made for a very tasty combination.

3) This is a fine-dining restaurant. The chef designs the meal for taste, texture, appearance, etc. Asking for "more sauce" on your lasagne, in my opinion, is ridiculous. If the lasagne needed more sauce originally, the chef would have made it that way. Trust me, you want to taste the fresh noodles and fine, subtle flavors the chef adds to the meal. Don't smother the flavors with extra red sauce.

Thank you very much for you review , and especially for the time lost in our "defense" of a review written by friends of restaurants competing ... Well if these guys come back we have the solution for lasagna without cheese "burned" is simple we will use lasagna Costco or Walmart microwave 2 minutes you're done and we will make the ribs of coal ... But this is not our style and we never will. Again thank you very much!!

“AMAZING!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We recently visited El Verelo last week. The owners Stefano and Sandra are very pleasant people to talk to. We love Italian food and the dinners we had were outstanding. My husband had the lasagna and commented the pasta was so light and fresh! I had the salmon in pasta...delicious! Our daughter had a pasta with cream sauce....said it was the best dinner she had in Cabo!! With the meal and the appetizer and desert...plus wine....we felt the dinner was also extremely reasonable!! We would reccomend El Verelo to anyone who is visiting Los Cabos! They are located across from the Westin. You won't be sorry !!

“Italian by Italians!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Can't say enough about the excellent pasta we had here, coupled with the extremely caring and attentive service offered by Stefano and Sandra. It's like they invited us into their own kitchen to prepare a couple of their family recipe's.

I had the ravioli, which were clearly homemade and cooked to perfection; al dente just as I prefer. My partner had the linguine diana which was a huge portion of fresh pasta in a creamy olive and tomato laced sauce.

If you want to have some real Italian food made by a couple of true Italians, this is the place in Cabo for you!

“Restaurant is not as good as past reviews indicate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We went to El Velero based on the good reviews and it was basically empty on a Saturday night (Dec. 29, 2012) so I became leary with it's lack of customers. The restaurant is very tiny with only about 9 tables available or about 36 people max. Two people in our party ordered the pork ribs and they were undercooked with raw red meat showing by the bone. So we had them cook them longer, but they were still undercooked. Another person ordered the lasagna and the cheese was burned to the plate around the edges and didn't have enough sauce so we asked for additional sauce, which came cold (which we found out later we were charged extra for). The cook later came by our table and asked how the food was and we showed her the red raw meat by the bone. She just shrugged her shoulders and walked away! This was by far the worst restaurant we had eaten at in Cabo and can't understand how it got such high ratings. I think one factor is the small number of reviews which skews the ratings. We won't be going back to this restaurant and don't recommend it to anyone else. We advise going to Alcaravea instead.

Gentlemen, if you want to advertise other restaurants do it in other ways. If as you say the food was so poor, why did you eat it all? . Ribs only one person complains that they were not cooked the other lady told me they were fine, regarding the lasagna remind you that in Italy you do not drowning in sauce bolognasa otherwise no longer feel the taste of pasta , and with regard to the extra memory you had a discount of 2 for 1 on main courses and I was offered a free appetizer . so that your account with the extra sauce in 4 people believe that it was no more than 60 Dollars .However we take this criticism in a constructive way and we will improve this aspect to satisfy demanding customers like you, even if in a year she was the first customer who did not like it.
