Although the Playa Grande is a beautiful, well-maintained resort, it is very expensive to stay there! I am not sure why the price is so high when you are not given any amenities for that price. You must be up way early if you want to even think about getting a chair by the pool- there are not enough chairs for the number of people at the resort. You can't even go on the beach because it is way too hot and you can't cool off in the ocean since swimming is restricted. Why have a beach resort without access to a beach?! You are hounded by timeshare representatives when you first arrive- don't waste your time!! Drinks are very expensive- 2 for 1 makes the drinks somewhat reasonably priced- however, everyone is ordering drinks at that time, so be prepared to wait!! Staff is friendly- especially when you tip them well. Overall, it was a nice place, but I would prefer to spend the same amount of money or less in a more desirable location where I can actually get a chair or go in the ocean.

The resort is quite beautifully maintained and conveniently located within 10 minutes of downtown Cabo. The weather was great (sunny and warm...humid, a couple of days) the entire 8 days we were there. It lacks restaurant variety. It's ok if you're up to walking to the marina and other local restaurants. We had a 2 BR/3BA penthouse suite with panoramic ocean views from the 5 balcony door areas. There is a small grocery market there, but pay the $20 taxi fare and go to the CCC or Soriana, which are next to each other, to get your groceries for the week. Oh, best thing is, housekeeping will clean your dishes. I was very conscious of leaving housekeeping a tip daily since different people clean the rooms periodically. The concierge desk is very helpful! We primarily used Mary (?Maria?) for assistance. She was very friendly and helpful to us, at all times.

Our first year at the Playa Grande and we were hooked. We loved it so much we bought a timeshare in 2004. We have been coming back almost every year since. The place is beautiful with a nice gym and spa. The pool is large and nice. Great snack bar and bar.
I love the food in Cabo some place's I could recommend are Casa Country (my favorite!) Brazil's, Shrimp factory, the Italian place the playa owner owns. (sorry forgot the name, but just ask)
And for a cheap late night grub, try the taco stand outside the "Cabo Wabo", they serve soft taco's and Corona's.
As previous folks have stated, everything is close enough to walk to you wont need to spend on taxi's.

Apon arriving at the hotel it was breathtaking, the hotel inside and out, the many pools with water slide, and huge crashing ocean waves. It really has it all. Everyone was very nice and accomodating, not pushy with anything. We missed the free scuba school the first day on accident, I wish I would of done that. The rooms are luxury quality. Very roomy, anything you could want full kitchen with stove which a lot of places their have only microwaves, a beautiful balcony facing the pier, huge tubs and showers, and walking distance to the main town. It was nice to be able to go anywhere and not have to pay for a cab once we got there, it really is in a great location. The ocean waves are the only thing that was saddening they're so huge with a scary undertoe that you cannot go into the ocean at the resort.. several people die their every year just by walking too close on the sand. The hotel itself seems newly built it is very modern and designed well.

Overall we will go back again!!!

  • Liked — This hotel is awesome!
  • Disliked — That I couldnt get into the ocean from the hotel..since its located on the pacific ocean side.

Stayed in a studio at Playa Grande the week of July 15th. The resort is very nice and the people there are really friendly, but there were some problems. I had read that there were not enough chairs around the pool, but never imagined it would be an issue in the off season (july). It was, which became very frustrating. Since the beach is not swimmable, the resort does not have chairs or palapas on the beach either, so there was no place to turn. Also, after being at the pool the 1st morning, we left our towels on our chairs when we went in for lunch. Upon our return, on of them was gone. I had read about a theft problem there, so I guess that is an issue.

As with most of the resorts in Mexico, the beds were INCREDIBLY hard as were the pillows. Interesting, we moved for our second week to the smaller sister resort next store and the beds and pillows were very comfy and soft. You would think the newer, nicer, more expensive resort would have the better beds and linens, but this time that was not the case.

The resort itself is very beautiful, the rooms are very nice (except the beds), the staff was excellent. If you like mega resorts, this is a really good one, especially if they can get these other issues resolved.
