Hello,
I want you all to know that I have read all of the negetive reviews about this hotel. We decieded to give it a try anyway. Let me tell you we were quite pleased. I sometimes think people only post reviews when something negetive happens. I am here to post a positive review. First of all we went prepared, avoiding the time share people at all cost at the airport and hotel. We walked right past them in the lobby. stick to the far wall, we then recieved a welcome call and were told to come get our welcome basket at the front desks. We diden't, and just kept on with our vacation. Let me tell you about the hotel. Grounds were beautiful, clean, quite. Room 103 beautiful we had 1 bedroom suite, it was clean, roomy, the kitchen is perfect for coffee, and storing any leftovers or store bought items. Two bathrooms were nice . The water preasure is amazing, we were laghing at how powerful it was. we were on level 1 so we could walk right off of our porch to the beach and pool. Pools were great. Pool bar was a little dirty. I did not like that. There is an adult pool that is quite and relaxing if you are looking fir that. All pools are a different temp. I loved the place. You can walk to town unlike many hotels there. Beach is clean and beautiful, there is no swimming but no biggie just go right around to the other side and swim. The bike taxi's were very fun and cheep. We had a great time. We took advantage of two time share presentations and recieved all of are activities free, over $900.00 usd worth of stuff. They are brutal and smart just kindly say no thanks. Or buy what the heck. We did not, and made out great. We took the beach ATV rides that was really fun. We drove the Baja 1000 Race track. That was very fun as well. We rode horses, fun a little less than I expected. We went through some pretty slummy areas (baja backroads). When we got to the beach we saw a family with horses ready to be ridden. I think that would have been funer. Over all we had a great time and loved the resort I would definatley stay there again no problem. Oh and when walking the streets ask the tour guides for some local resturants. There are so many that really are outstanding. No resturant in Cabo is bad, they are all there to please. Even the locals are very friendly. Have fun and relax. The Playa Grande is a very nice place. I am very picky about the places I stay and this one I had nothing to complain about.

We stayed at the Playa Grande for the second week of our two-week vacation in a time share we bought last year. Our first week we stayed at the Hacienda Del Mar (with my review posted on that site). So it is hard for me not to compare the two. We were on the 5th out of six floors in the L building, on the end. Unfortunately, the building next to us obstructed a third of our view of the ocean, but if you looked the right way, the view was amazing. I found our room to be noisy from the people above us, probably due to the fact of the tile floors. The beds were extremely hard, and uncomfortable. The room was nice, but housekeeping was less than adequate. We didn't have any problem with the timeshare sales people maybe because we were considered "owners" already. The pool was very nice, and we never had trouble finding a chair open. We were able to watch the baby loggerhead turtles making their way one morning to the surf after hatching. This was an awesome experience to see. We ate at the Calima restaurant a couple of times and felt that the staff didn't seem too interested in serving or acknowledging us. The wait time was quite long, and the food was average, but a little pricey. We had a meal by the pool one day and it came quite quickly and was very good. The location is wonderful...just a short walk down the hill and you are right in the town. We jogged along the marina each day, and that was a great spot because it was flat, and not too busy early in the morning. Overall, the experience was very nice, and we will be back.

I read a bunch of comments about this resort and here
is few cents on our experience at the Playa Grande Resort.

The Resort is beautiful and well kept for both the grounds and the rooms.
The beds are very hard as others have stated.
Did not encounter any towel cards and towels fiasco as others have mentioned.
now the sales sharks are there but I did not get approached after the first approach for a sales presentation.
Now in the city of cabo and the airport it is a shark frenzy so play deaf and move on. They try everything to get you to reply or acknowledge them and then they are on you bad.
service was a positve experience and the food was good.
This location would be a resort that I would return too.
Really nothing negative about the whole experience it was great.

My husband and I spent a week in Cabo(Sept 16-23) with another couple. We both stayed at Playa Grande. We had some reservations about the property from some recent reviews, but I have to say I was very pleased with the grounds, rooms, and service.

We arrived at about 2 and was advised our rooms would be ready in an hour. Just the right amount of time for us to grab a bite to eat. There was a bar right next to the lobby that served food so we grabbed a bite there. Food was good and drinks were great. When we finished out rooms were ready.

We stayed in a one bedroom and was very pleased with the size of the kitchen, eating area, bedroom and 2 baths. I agree with other guests--the beds are very, very hard. We were in building E on the 2nd floor and had an OK view of the pool. Since it was quite warm and we did not expect to be out on our patio much, we did not request a room change to a better view.

Our friends stayed in a studio and it was also a great size. They were in the B building on the 5th floor and had an amazing view of the entire resort and the ocean.

Furnishings in both units were fine. Sofas a little uncomfortable, but we did not go to Cabo to sit on the sofa and watch TV.

The grounds of this resort are amazing. They have beautiful fish ponds(some were under repair during our stay, but in no way did that cause an issue--no noticeable noise). The pools have an abundance of lounge chairs and the swim up bar was great. The beach is soooo beautiful. We don’t swim in the ocean unless we are snorkeling, so we were not disappointed that this is not a swimming beach. The waves are hypnotizing. Great to take a nap with that sound to lull you to sleep.

On our second night we joined the Mexican Fiesta party they had down by the pool. There was dinner, the food was OK, nothing amazing but the entertainment was lots of fun. There were games and prizes including a piñata. Our friends won a day pass to the Ridge for the following day. This is a newer part of the resort with its own pool/hot tub/ swim up bar.

Our day at the Ridge was the best day of our vacation. Total relaxation. The pool is located on top of one of the buildings and the pool is a negative edge--makes you feel like you could float right from the pool into the ocean!

There is a new fancy restaurant at the resort down by the beach. The food and service were excellent. As for the other food on site I would say we enjoyed the first couple of days, then realized that the room service menu, pool menu, and bar menu are all the same. For a week stay it gets a little old. We had originally planned to go to Costco and buy some food, but once we got to the resort we just didn't feel like going grocery shopping. We just wanted to veg!!

I will wrap this up as it is getting long. I will post another review on the Cabo forum for other info like ATV tours, Jungle Cruise info, and other food recommendations.

Overall--wonderful grounds and rooms. No complaints about the service.

Tips: Get a printout of your bill the night before you leave so you can review charges. The taxes make everything very confusing..better to review prior to check out.

We tipped housekeeping every other day--never had issues.

We got a great deal on the room---$800 for the week. We were referred by someone who owns at this property and so we got the great rate--YES we had to take the 75 min tour--BUT there was no pressure and we were NEVER approached again about buying a timeshare.

What a great resort! From the time of check-in we were pampered and made to feel special. We had traded a week in a five-star resort in Playa del Carmen for this week and would definitely do it again. There is a lot to do in Cabo as well as interesting side/daytrips and sunset cruises or horse-back riding. We took a day-trip up to La Paz and swam with the sea lions! Awesome. Ideal for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway - plenty of wonderful restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. You can not swim in the Pacific Ocean at this resort due to an undertow and riptides but a five minute walk down the hill to the water-taxis will get you a ride across the bay to Medano Beach, which is beautiful with wonderful snorkelling just past the breakers. We were lucky to miss both Hurricane John and Hurricane Lane and had temperatures up to 45°C and no rain.
All in all, it was a wonderufl trip and well worth it. Planning to go back with my teenage son and try some surfing in the Sea of Cortez!

  • Liked — Spacious and the great view.
  • Disliked — Nothing.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Be prepared to walk as a lot of shopping/markets are within walking distance.
