Just returned from a trip to Cabo San Lucas. Based on a few reviews at Trip Advisor we selected this place. It was great. Beautiful resort. It is on par with the Westin but the drinks at the pool are significantly cheaper. It is a timeshare/hotel but if you decline the "free dinners" they leave you in peace.

Within walking distance of town and only two minutes to the marina where you can catch a water taxi.

Best security I have ever seen. They actually check the number of people trying to enter the gate against your room occupancy. Only problem is bringing someone back with you who is not a paying guest.

Junior suite was good sized and had a dining area and small kitchen area complete with coffee maker. Only complaint was the pull out bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.

My family (wife and two girls 11 and 8) stayed at Playa Grande recently and, overall it was a good hotel. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite which was outstanding in all ways. The pool areas were large and plentiful and there was even a separate pool and hot tub for adults who wanted to be away from the kids. The pools and hotel never seemed to be crowded but pool loungers were hard to come by after 11:00am. The lack of loungers is not due to the hotel buying enough but instead there is not any place to put them. I carefully looked one day and every available space around the pools had chairs. There is simply no place else to put them. I bet this is really frustrating during the peak season. You are not suppose to "save
chairs in the morning but people would conviently start reading a book for a little while in a couple of poolside loungers about 8:30am or 9:00am and then dissappear shortly there after. The service was satisfactory but slow. Since we were paying (not all inclusive) and had our kids we were kind of glad the drinks were slow at times :) The hotel is beautiful and food at the restaurants is very good but kinda of expensive. The breakfast buffet at the pool was always around $50.00 for the 4 of us whereas if you went in town you could eat for about $30.00 or a little less. There was construction going on behind the north half of the hotel that probably made staying in those rooms not so much fun. You could not hear the construction from the beach side rooms. We locked all our valuables up in the in room safe and did not have any problems. We tipped our maid 100 pesos a day and, coincidence or not, none of our watches, cameras, loose change, etc. ever disappeared while we were gone. There was not much for the kids to do besides the pool. Wish there were more kids activies sponsored by the hotel. The one popular kids attraction was pottery painting by the pool. A man setup "shop" each day about 10:30am and kids could pick out pottery in different shapes with the color outlines already done in thin black lines. Once the kids (and many adults) had painted their pottery he took it home that night, touched the lines up, fired and glazed it, and brought it looking great the next morning. Great activity to tie the kids up for a couple of hours. Happy hour everyday at 3:30pm and they pour the margaritas stiff! Wife and I were walking on air one day after several of them in short order. Overall very nice hotel. Not the best we have stayed at but very close to the top.

My husband and I stayed at the Playa Grande Resort June 11-15 as an RCI exchange week gifted to us. We have been to Cabo San Lucas before, and love the area. The resort is very well kept and rooms are very clean. We had a 1-bedroom unit, which is referred to a Luxury Suite on Playa Grande's website. Separate bedroom from the living room and kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. Very nice units. We were in the 2nd building from the main office, on the 3rd floor. We could see the ocean from our balcony, but would have preferred to have been in a building closer to the ocean.
The pools are very nice and clean, and food & beverage service by the pools is fairly prompt. The beach is not very occupied by guests, and there is quite a wind off of the Pacific. It's nice, because the wind comes up through the whole resort during the day while you are sitting in the sun by the pools. On occasion, though, it was actually chilly, and made it a bit cold to even go in the pools.
The only restaurant onsite that was open was Calima. The food was above average. We wanted to dine in the Brigantine restaurant near the ocean, but was told it was closed due to remodeling. However, we saw no remodeling going on. In fact, it was being used to host people looking at the timeshares. Kind of disappointed with that.
We usually went into town for dinner. You can walk (about 15 minutes), or take a cab for $6. The resort is kind of up a hill, so the walk back from town is a little tiring if you are not a walker. We ate at Romeo and Juliet's, which is owned by the resort. We at there the last time we were in Cabo, and it is excellent Italian food at a very reasonable price. We also ate again at Lorenzillo's Live Lobster House. Highly recommend this. The wait staff is very attentive. A bit pricy, but worth it.
Overall, the resort was very nice. We stayed at the Westin the last time we were in Cabo, so we were use to the "heavenly beds" they have. The beds at Playa were quite firm. I would recommend bringing your own pillow if you like to sleep on fluffy pillows. The pillows provided by the hotel are very firm.
The only complaint I have is that we called the concierge one time to make a reservation for us at a restaurant, and she told us that she could not do that because her phone did not have a direct line to that number. It seemed that they only wanted to call the restaurants for you that they owned (Romeo and Juliet's, Sea Queen, and La Fonda's). Our concierge at the Westin did whatever he could to get us to a restaurant we would like, regardless.
Overall, I would recommend this resort. It's for both adults and families.

My husband and I recently returned from a week stay at Playa Grande. It was our first trip to Cabo and we came through an RCI exchange. We were pleasantly suprised upon our arrival to Playa Grande. As many of the reviews here describe, the resort is kept VERY clean! The view of the Pacific from our 4th floor room was amazing and the crashing of the waves was even more exceptional. We rented a car for the week and therefore didn't mind not being able to swim on the Pacific side, as we simply drove to the nearby beaches for snorkeling and sunbathing. (However it was nice to return to the beach at Playa Grande to escape the vendors and time share promoters.) I'd recommend heading to the local beaches of Chileno Bay and Santa Maria in the morning hours, as the snorkleing ships crowd the waters in the afternoons. The pools at Playa Grande were great, service wonderful, and food good. Although the vendors do take some getting used to and the driving can be interesting, we definelty plan to return to Cabo and to Playa Grande. (Although our next trip will probably be to the US or British Virgin Islands where the beaches are more secluded - less commercialized - and there aren't any vendors.
