I traded my timeshare week and ended up with a week here at Playa Grande. The place was absolutely gorgeous! With multiple pools, a swim up bar (that for some reason no-one was ever at), and two hot tubs (one exclusively for adults - that, happily, was actually enforced by the property security guards!) and a pristine beach (though beware, there is no swimming allowed in the ocean at this property due to strong ripcurrents).
The 1 bedroom had everything in the kitchen except an oven (it did have the stovetop though) and made it very easy to save money by eating fabulous meals at
"home."
There were 2 bathrooms, one with a huge jacuzzi tub and shower and one with a large shower.
There were two TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. They got lots of american channels (we watched the LA news) including multiple HBO and Cinemax channels.
The whole place seemed very new and was immaculate and elegant.
The only negatives:
The bed was like a rock - even with the extra pad.
The food at Latin Night buffet was awful and limited in selection. They did however serve great all-you-can-drink cocktails (included in the price) and with a dollar tip for every drink order the waiter was VERY attentive to us! We didn't eat at the resort any other time since we found so many great options in town (Mariscos Mazatlan - not the nicest inside, but phenomenal shrimp for a good price!!!) and ate at home the rest of the time. The only restaurant we ate at that is somehow connected to the resort was Galeon and it was FABULOUS (try the chef's recommended steak with mushrooms)!
There will try to talk you into buying a timeshare! Happily I've been through the whole thing before and it was easy to say no (even with a better second offer and even better third offer). On the plus side, if you think you can withstand the sales pitch you get a lot of perks for your 75 minutes of torture. We got a $55 gift certificate to eat at Galeon and a bunch of big discounts on other things - definitely worth the hour and 15 minutes of sales pitch.
The people who complain about the help not speaking english crack me up... C'mon people, you're in a foreign country! Buy a language dictionary and show some respect by making an effort to communicate in their language and not being the obnoxious american who expects everyone to speak OUR language.
All in all it's a fabulous resort and we had a fantastic time! If you're looking for a wild nightlife go into town - the resort is very mellow and relaxing (at least that was the atmosphere when we were there - I'm sure spring break is something else entirely!). This place was by far the nicest of the timeshares I've stayed at.
