Unlike the previous reviewer, who found alot to complain about, I rate the Playa Grande as excellent. I just got back from an 8 day stay there on a honeymoon trip. I did not have a child with me or ask the hotel for extra attention, I just enjoyed what was offered - Golden Sun, Blue Water, White Sand, Awesome Drinks, Good Food, and a First Class Resort. The breakfast buffet for $12 at the poolside restaurant is a good value. The sushi during happy hour (2 drinks for 1) is great. Do not fall for the "Welcome Package" from your "hostess" on arrival. It is a time share presentation that is a waste of time and they will turn on you when you decline to pay $15,000 for a "great offer". Pancho's restaurant also has an excellent breakfast (on Hidalgo Street). Resort's small store is way overpriced (of course). Go to Costco or another grocery. Pirate Sunset Cruise is $45 and worth every penny. Vendors are everywhere in town, just get used to being hassled. Day trip to Todos Santos is worthwhile if you have the time, jewelry and souvenir prices are cheaper there. Driving there and back is fun, but somewhat hazardous. Don't forget to bargain with the vendors, their first price is just a suggestion! Have fun in Cabo!

Although the property is beautiful, i.e. architecture/colors/pool layout, in addition to walking distance to town, there are many problems.

1. Prior e-mail arranged airport pick-up with direct transport to property was significantly delayed with an additional unannounced stop.

2. Check-in at front desk with a request for an additional towel card was denied. Although they finally provided another towel card, the other parties in our room that arrived later also had to go through the same hassle. Hello, it's just a towel! Lack of hospitality and courtesy.

3. Since the room for the last 7 yrs has always had cockroaches, we bring cockroach traps. Good luck with the 25 watt lighting in the 2nd bathroom!

4. Room service screwed up 2 out of 2 orders.

5. On 3 occasions, at 9pm, we had to request earlier evening bed prep in order to accommodate a child.

6. Bring extra money and soap if you use the laundry room! Dryers have short times requiring additional money.

7. What's up with the restaurants? The "new" restaurant is as bad as the other restaurants. Grilled food arrived cold while sushi arrived 45 minutes later after everyone finished eating. We've never seen more than a handful of people eating at their restaurants over the last 7 yrs. No repeaters! Poor service and, once again, hospitality.

8. Lost/misplaced towels cost $18 bucks. They are not worth $8 bucks and why the charge? We can assure you that they are not stolen. The front desk told us to take another guests towel to replace our towel. Paying for missing towels is often a topic of conversation every day up to and including check-out. Since towels are eventually accounted for at the end of the day, whats the deal? Sounds like "towelgate".

9. Families with children avoided the bar pool because of scum on the bottom of the pool.

10. Hey, the new gym is great! $10 a day for owner's guests.

Hospitality training, courtesy, addressing continual restaurant problems and last, but not least, dumping the absurd towel rip-off charge would make this facility one to recommend for families and couples. Unfortunately, since owner suggestions over the years have been continually ignored, we suggest that prospective buyers/guests check out other facilities.

I stayed at Playa Grande from May 11-16 and had the best time! This was my first time at Cabo and I will definitely be back. The hotel itself is immaculate, the staff is constantly cleaning every inch of the place. The rooms were also spotless- I am a 100% TOTAL germaphobe and I even felt comfortable to walk around the room with out shoes. The weather was gorgeous the entire week and the pool area was great also. But, on the busiest days, go out early to get a good spot. Sometimes by 10.30 it was too late and all the best seats are taken. The pool area with kids got a little annoying some days because the kids were so loud and throwing balls, but we just relocated to another area. The casual restaurant (didn't pay attention to the name of it) that serves breakfast buffet and lunch poolside was the only hotel restaurant I ate at. The b-fast was good, and the lunches were pretty good also. There are a lot of healthy choices and the sushi was AMAZING! There is also happy hour 2 for 1 drinks everyday from like 3-6 (I think that was the time). This ended up being a nice surprise b/c you get 2 drinks for about $8, which you'd pay that much at home for one drink anyways. As for the other restaurants, we preferred to go off the property and into town to try those out, besides who wants to eat Italian food while they are in Mexico? But, try Margaritavilla (right off the marina- great drinks, great crowd too) and MiCasa (amazing food and super cute atmosphere). I personally think the placement of the resort was great, you can relax and you're not that far away from town either- it's just a $6 cab ride anywhere in town. My only two complaints are:1)when you come home in the wee hours of the morning drunk from going out, there is no room service or pizza delivery past 11.00 and 2)we tried to have guests over one night (well, more like 4am) and they wouldn't let us bring anyone into the resort. I know this does happen at a lot of the nicer resorts, but it still sucked. Overall, the trip was amazing, i will defintely come back to Cabo and will not hesitate to stay at Playa Grande.

We had an awsome time at the Playa Grande Resort. It is close to all of the action w/o being right in the mix. If you are looking to relax it is a great resort. We had quite a few spa treatments @ the resort that were amazing. I highly recommend the 1/2 hour message on the beach. There is a salt water infinity pool at the spa that is spectacular. There are tennis courts, mini golf, beach and pool activities, and a gym. You really don't even need to leave the resort if you don't want to.

Now for the negatives. The gym is $10 per person per day. Actually everything in Cabo seemed to be highly priced. The mini golf is $12 per person for a round. The food at the hotel was ok. I would recommend Calima (the pool side restaurant) for dinner. I would recommend never going to Brigantine (their upscale restaurant), upscale prices with terrible food. I never received any of my messages. If you don't go to the time share presentation be prepared for the evil eye from your rep. at the hotel. Also you can not swim at the beach out in front of the hotel.

All in all I would rate this an excellent choice for accomodations.

As for Cabo in general Lorenzillo's is a fabulous restaurant. If you want to get better prices on stuff like sarongs, jewlery, and such buy those items off the beach. Not only do you get a nice tan while doing so the vendors seemed to be alot more reasonable than the vendors in town. La Princesa was a fun sunset cruise. Take the water taxi over to Medano beach for great beaches and beach party scene. Snorkeling at Maria bay is fun.

To all of you that are looking for a place to stay, look no further. Playa Grande has everything and as an owner I am thrilled to be part of this facility. Everything is top notch and the new gym is everything that I expected. For all those who are constantly complaining, STOP, and don't come anymore. Leave Playa Grande for the people who truly enjoy it. Sure there are problems but all in all they seem to out perform the previous year. This year I was pleased to find that the food has greatly improoved and the SUSHI special on Thursday was almost the gastronomic hit of the weak. The facility has style, grace and beauty and when you match that with the incredible views, why go anywhere else. So stay away you nay sayers you'll never be happy no matter what you find. To those who really want to get away and enjoy a week of beauty, class and incredible views, this is the place to visit.
