It was a very unfortunate incident and I am so disappointed in the Playa Grande that I will never go back. I am not a needy traveler at all and I have worked in the hospitality industry before and I always give the benefit of doubt. Now on with the story…

It was our last night at the resort. After a few cocktails, we decide to walk down to the beach and listen to the Pacific Ocean one last time around 12AM. We came in from the balcony and locked the door and headed down to the beach. We chatted about how amazing our trip turned out and how beautiful Cabo and our resort were. We were gone 20 minutes. We walked into our room and I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the bedroom (we were in a 1 bedroom). I then realized our balcony door was wide open and the curtains were blowing in our room. My husband went to the bedroom door and a man walked out of our bathroom.

The man was a very well dressed Mexican man in his early 50’s. I immediately recognized him. He was sitting out on the balcony of the room next to ours earlier in the night. My husband started asking for an explanation and at this point had put me behind him. Even he was scared that something was about to happen. He saw that our safe was open and everything inside of it had been thrown around. Money, passports, jewelry, SS cards, etc… I was just speechless and scared and stood there in complete shock. Then the other couple that was traveling with us walked in the front door. Thank goodness my friend immediately freaked out and ran for security. The man did not speak hardly any English, but the gist of the story is that he says he heard a noise coming from his room and thought his drunken friend had come over into our room. I realized that when I walked in and saw him, he was walking from the safe and running into the bathroom. Security came and the head of security started interrogating him. Then the best part is that the other guy that was staying in his room came over and said he had just returned from taking the supposed drunk friend home.

So now it is 4 AM and we are told that they cannot press charges or call the police because the guy did not have any of our property on him (because he threw it all back in the safe when he heard us come in). He says we can travel into los cabos and file a report in the morning but we have a flight out in the morning. He then tells us they are not going to make the guy leave the resort!!! I could not believe this. They let him stay! I tell him we want to move and they move us to an awesome 2 bedroom on the beach. However, it is now 5AM and we have to leave at 9AM to catch our flight so we do not get to enjoy it. I got 2 hours of sleep.

Then we go to check out and there are charges for phone calls that we made from a calling card. BEWARE, I used a calling card and the resort apparently charges a 3.50 connecting charge that I was not aware of. The manager was a complete jerk and did not care one bit about what we experienced only a few hours before. He treated us like we were the criminals for not wanting to pay the phone charges that were a bunch of crap in the first place and only totaled $17 American dollars! Instead of at least leaving us with a little bit of hope for the resort, he reassured me I will never go to one of their properties again. I mean, what about the guests that were moving into our room after us with the man STILL staying in the room next door. What if he tried to rob them? We had a $600 tab at the resort. We paid every penny except the $17 dollars for the phone calls and left wishing we had never come.

We arrived hours before Hurricane Henriette made landfall. We were so tired from our wedding the prevous night, that we fell asleep when we got to our room. When we awoke we were in the middle of a Hurricane....It was awesome! The resort is great, every thing is on a massive scale, its beautiful. The service was fantasitc right down to the bell boys.... Jesus was our favorite. The staff at Playa Grande were very friendly, much more so than at any all inclusive resort that we've stayed at, this is probably due to the fact that they work for tips unlike at the all inclusive resorts.... But in my opinion these guys go way above and beyond.
The resort is just a short walk to the Cabo San Lucas marina, where you can charter a fishing boat, shop, eat, drink, party, what ever and when ever...
Playa Grande's sister Resort Solmar has its own fishing fleet and charters can be booked right in the hotel lobby.
You can walk to Lands End from Playa Grande and Solmar which are located right on the very tip of the Baja Pennisula... Lover's Beach and Divorce Beach are great to hang-out on at Lands End. If walking is not you style you can always grab a tender from the marina to ferry you over to Lover's Beach. The pilot of our Tender took us for a little sightseeing around Land's End before droping us at Lover's Beach.

To start, we were very worried about the airport, we had heard horror stories. Because of a review I read on Trip Advisor, I had arranged transportation to and from the airport through Baja Ground Services http://www.bajaonly.com/baja/transfer-rates.htm. It was $70 round trip for two people - best money I've ever spent! We were getting hounded at the airport but we kept our heads down, ignored all of them, went directly outside and immediately saw the guy with the sign with our last name. The way back was also effortless with them.

We got to the hotel at 10pm so we were the only ones in the lobby when we checked in. The next day we had to sit down with a "concierge" to get our towel vouchers. She sat us down, talked us through the map of the resort, invited us to the breakfast, we declined, she said ok here's the # if you change your mind and that was it. VERY easy. I talked to a few people who went to a presentation in the morning - they served ALCOHOL and they ended up buying and maybe slightly regretting it...too many mimosas. Anyway, just say no to the breakfast and you'll be fine.

Speaking of breakfast, we had the buffet at Calima 4 mornings while we were there. On Sundays they have free mimosa's and it is $18 if you are there before 9am. During the week the buffet was $18 (no mimosas). A little on the spendy side, but it was awesome food and then we didn't eat lunch. You can also order off of a menu to save on costs.

The other restaurant is The Brigatine. We had the BEST experience there. For an extra $20, you can have them set up a table on the beach. Very private, very romantic, tiki torches for when it gets dark and you can hear the waves crashing. They even brought me a blanket when it started to get a bit chilly. It was our 10 year anniversary and I can't think of anything I would have done different. I highly recommend this. The concierge forgot to make our reservation so when we got there they didn't have a table set up. The manager gave us complimentary mango margarita's and quickly set up a table for us. He was wonderful. Food was fantastic.

For groceries I'd recommend taking a cab to CCC (grocery store). There is also a Sam's Club and Costco, we just didn't feel the need to buy anything in bulk and CCC had everything we needed. Cab ride was cheaper also.

If you're looking for tequila, you must hit Pancho's. It's walking distance from the hotel (about 10 minutes) and anyone at the hotel will know where it is. Great food and awesome tequila selection. Also a must is a restaurant across the street from Panchos. I forget the name, but it's right beside the Lobster place. They have a drink called a "Bulldog". Tastes like a margarita but is made with lemonade, tequila and Corona. Best drink I've ever had!

Head to the Marina to go to some fun bars. We loved the Tiki bar, they had live music when we were there. You also have to experience Cabo Wabo, the margaritas were the strongest I've ever had.

We did the Cabo Mar Salsa and Sunset Cruise. Recommend this also. Food and drink included. Couldn't see the sunset, but didn't care after a few mojitos. Staff is super fun.

Hotel was very nice. Because of the H1N1, it wasn't very crowded which was perfect. Not many activities, but we weren't really looking for any. There were always beach chairs available. We went to the swim up bar every day. Rafael was awesome, by the 3rd day he knew I wanted a pina colada with Malibu! We met a ton of great people at the swim up bar. The beach isn't swimmable which I didn't care about at all. It was awesome to go by the water to watch the waves. I prefer this over a swimming beach any day!

Overall, had a fantastic experience at Playa Grande.

I travel for a living - generally 4 to 5 nights each week. So, sleeping is a hotel box - is not a great thrill. This is not a hotel box. The room ar open - great views ( on the beach side ), quiet and well appointed. I love sitting outside in the morning drinking my coffee, with the cool pacific breeze waking me. We are owner of a 2 BR, which we upgraded to last year - we will likely return to this resort annually - We are thrilled to be returning this July -as well.

The resort in family friendly but equally lovely for my wife and I to enjoy. Feel free to explore the marina (walking distance ) with its sidewalk cafe' and/or the night life. During our last stay we rented a car and drove to La Paz - tough drive - but gave us a chance to see more of the baha. For fun, recommend the ATV ----- not cheap but a blast.

Generally we eat in - for the morning meal and lunch. Dinner is almost always out.

You will be approach for time-share purchases. For the 2 hours... I'll take the free stuff. I already own two - so there will not be another. If you love vacations and this area - it is a good deal. If you wont use your time - don't. I work very hard and this was an investment for my free time to get away and be with my family.

We stayed at the Playa Grande early May 2009 (during the H1N1 flu travel advisory and it was very quiet). The Resort and the suite (1 BR suite with 2 bathrooms) were beautiful. There was a living/dining room with an open kitchen, a bedroom with a king size bed (mattress a bit too hard); the ensuite had a bathtub/shower and the 2nd bathroom a large shower only (a hairdryer in the 2nd bathroom would have been nice). In my opinion, the 1BR suite was a bit small if you went there with 4 adults. We also had a large balcony with a nice (partial) ocean view), only the low walls dividing the balconies provided no privacy at all. There are several swimming pools. Due to the time that we were there, there were no problems to get a lounge chair everywhere. The beach is great, but not swimmable - great for walking, though. The Resort did not offer many activities, so for those looking for the all-inclusive style ambiente, this would not be for you, but great if you like it a bit more laid back. A plus ws the close proximity to the town and to the marina.

We did not have any problems with the time share sales people. At the airport, we just went straight to the exit without engaging with anyone (wear sunglasses - make no eye contact) - it’s a very small airport, so no problem. We had arranged for Cape Travel to pick us up, they were there right in front of the exit with a sign. In the resort, after check-in we were asked to see the `host` for our info package and towel cards. She invited us to the Sunday Brunch (aka timeshare presentation) the next day. We did not go and that was that.

Check-in was not as friendly and welcoming as we would have expected, the girl could not crack a smile and when we went to the bar for our welcome drinks, ouch! There was a problem with construction and renovation work in the suite above ours and our complaint was not well handled by front desk. After we complained on the next day again, one of the managers send us a fruit basket and a bottle of wine, which was nice, but the noise still went on. This was frustrating as the Resort was almost empty and they could have set us up in a different suite in the first place. We had specifically chosen this resort for its known to be more on the quiet side.

We had a Sunday brunch and a breakfast buffet at the Calima Restaurant, both were good, and we ate once dinner in the Brigantine Restaurant, where we had a delicious seafood dinner for two. We also went to the Galleon Restaurant off-site, which hat primarily Italian food, very good. And there are plenty of nice restaurants in town (about 10 - 15 minutes walk) or in the marina area (almost across the street from the Resort). There is normally also plenty of nightlife going on in town; however, it was a lot quieter than usual in Cabo, due to the flu thing.

The Resort has a convenience store on site (expensive), and there is a small super market off-site about half way into town. For larger quantities of groceries, it may be best to go to the Wal-Mart or Costco by taxi.

We rented a car on the last day, which we could keep for the trip to the Airport the next day without additional cost. We went to Todos Santos, a charming town (there is the infamous Hotel California and neat stores, cafes and galleries, and also some great beaches just out of town). We also did a Caboray sunset dinner cruise, with grat food and a nice show.

We would recommend this Resort for its location, nice grounds and beautiful suites, but not for the service. Also, one would expect that the gym use should be free and not at a cost of $10 p. day, and there there could have been better information about the hotel and its amenities.
