I've been to Cabo a bunch of times before this trip, but this was the most relaxing trip I've had. We were supposed to stay at the Solmar Beach Club, but they decided to upgrade us to this hotel, and it was definitely worth it! The room was huge and very luxurious for a beach holiday. The staff was very helpful. The beach is extremely private, which is something you won't find at the hotels on the other beaches in the area. It's good to know that the pool and hotel bars have staggered happy hours - so it's basically happy hour for 4-5 hours. Enjoy!

I have never posted a review on Tripadvisor before, but because I rely so much on this site I felt it was time to post. My wife and I just returned from a week at Playa Grande and had a great time and thought we would provide some hopefully use full information. The resort in general is very beautiful and is impeccably maintained, grounds are manicured and sidewalks were constantly being scrubbed and cleaned. Here is some information on the following areas:
Rooms - we were in a one bedroom, two bath. The kitchen has microwave fridge/freezer, stove top, toaster, blender, coffee pot and plenty of utensils, pots , pans and storage containers. The living room/dining area has ample space to relax and the bedroom has plenty of closet space and drawers and a very comfortable king size bed. The master bath has a large tub/shower combination and the second bathroom is large with a large shower. The rooms are nicely decorated and furnished, they are not in perfect condition but I have never been to the Ritz or JW Marriott so I don't know if they would fix every scratch or nick after every guest.

Maid service - on the days that we did have them come in, they did a fine job of cleaning the room and restocking supplies. We did leave a tip each time, didn't really get any fancy towel art or anything but no big deal.

Pools - the pools all large and were not crowded at all, yes they are a little on the chilly side but there are two large hot tubs that provided plenty of warm water. Chairs right next to the pool were at a premium after about 11am, yes people reserve with towels, haven't been anywhere that it doesn't happen. The service at the pools is hit or miss as far as frequency of checking up on you, no not every server seemed thrilled to be there but there certainly weren't any rude ones. You can order drinks or food from the servers and they will bring it to you poolside. There are signs posted and a note in the book in your room about not bringing outside food and beverage to the pool. I only saw a few people with their own drinks or snacks and never saw anyone say anything to them.

Meal plan - we did the meal plan for three days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as these days included the Fiesta and Beach Parties. All I can say is if you plan on eating every meal at the resort during these days and if you drink a moderate or more amount of alcohol, then this is the way to go. They still make you sign for all you eat and drink so you can see what everything would cost, I figured that we saved about 30 to 40 dollars.

Drinks - have read reviews that the drinks were weak, we only had drinks at the resort when we were on the meal plan, they had plenty of alcohol!

Food - again we only at the resort during our meal plan days. The breakfast buffet at Brigantine was excellent, the made to order omelets were fantastic. The food from the pool snack menu was very good, we had wings, pizza, guac/salsa and chips, mozzarella sticks and quesadillas. The buffet food at the Fiesta night was excellent, the food at the Beach party, not so good. We went to the Calima restaurant for the lobster/seafood night, we arrived about an hour after the dinner service started and they were already out of scallops, we opted for the jumbo shrimp and it was very good. Beware, even though the meal plan says it includes the lobster seafood night, you still only get 50% off the lobster dish if you order it, the people at the table next to ours were shocked when they got their bill, but it does tell you on the bottom of the menu that you only get 50% off. All in all food was very good.

Prices - didn't really pay much attention to the drink prices while on the meal plan, probably between 6 and 10 dollars, yes there is 2 for 1 from 2pm to 4pm. The breakfast buffet at Brigantine is $22 per person, yep kind of high and is why we did the meal plan for the three days.
The pool snack menu items ranged from 12 to 17 dollars, with pizza around 15 dollars for a nice size pizza that fed two of us for a couple meals. The fiesta and beach party were $39 per person. There is a coffee stand (not included in meal plan) that has coffee, latte's and such for about $3 and donuts, bagels and croissants for $2. There is a convenience store near the lobby, look out this is where it got expensive, bought one quart of half and half, it was $7.50! There may have been other stuff more reasonable, but we didn't buy anything else there.

Staff - fantastic, never ran into anyone rude, all greeted us and we greeted them as well. We do not expect them to kiss our $%s up one side and down the other as some people seem to think they should do. They are extremely hard working and professional!

Entertainment - there are activities in the pool from around 11am to 4pm, all were fun with a lot of people participating. The best though is Roberto, he was the emcee at the fiesta and beach parties, he is absolutely the best, he had the crowd roaring with laughter and had me laughing so hard I was crying, what a gem!

Timeshare - yes after you check in they direct you to one of the girls for a map of the resort, your towel cards and the presentation pitch. We listened as she pointed out all the additional benefits/discounts that we would get if we attended the breakfast and presentation, we politely declined and were NEVER bothered again by anyone else about the presentation.

Tipping - we never felt that anyone made us feel like they expected a tip, we tipped accordingly to the service and attitude.

Location - as many have stated it is close to town which is great. My wife and love Cabo because you can walk around town and feel safe, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the heart of it all, we ate at Maro's, Happy Endings and cabo Cantina all were reasonable with excellent food. There is a small OXXO mart at the bottom of the resort hill where you can get fairly cheap beverages and snacks. We enjoy the exercise so we walked to Medano beach twice, it took about 40 minutes to get there by way of the marina boardwalk.

General - this is mostly a credit only resort, you sign slips frequently for your food and drinks to be charged to your room if you are not on the meal plan, you can leave a tip on the slip or give cash. The convenience store and coffee station took cash. Overall we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms higher than 3rd floor will have better view as palm trees block many of the lower rooms.

We can not rave enough about Roberto, the emcee/host of the various on-site parties at the Playa Grande Resort! This guy needs to be discovered and launched to stardom. Not only is he charming and hilarious, he's a great dancer (although we didn't get to see enough of that), keeps an audience engaged, and is the best with original and diverse comebacks to all the various things said and done during things such as Limbo Contests, Male Dance competitions, etc.
Our group of 10 were so impressed and entertained by him that we attended the Italian Party primarily because we knew he would be hosting!
The Playa Grande has a gem on their hands with this talented and witty performer. We are all hoping to see him onstage in Las Vegas (where we all live) or hosting a televised program of some sort in the future. He has the looks, quick wit and facial expressions to rise to the top of such a competitive field. Debbi Halfhill/guest Playa Grande Resort

Room Tip: Our room was located on the lower Ridge. It required quite a hike up a steep hill everytime we left...

Just wrapping up our annual visit to Playa Grande and so sad to leave! The staff are wonderful including bellman Daniel, activities director Cristina, and spa staff member Anna. We love the location - so close for walking into town and on the beautiful private beach. We're looking forward to our Grand Solmar visit next year and maybe adding a week at Playa Grande with some friends. Thanks again Playa Grande!!

I have always had a great time at Playa Grande and the accommodations continue to be great. The staff is warm and friendly. The location is the best in Cabo.

We were disappointed on our recent visit with the quality of the internet. It has never been great but it has gotten to the point where it is essentially worthless. The business office admitted it was an issue as did the front office manager. A quality resort such as this needs to correct this ASAP. People may be on vacation but they still want to be able to stay in touch with family and business.

With the exception of the internet, everything else was perfect.
