This place would be it!

My family stayed here 3/21 to 3/28 a spring break week. It was busy, but not over crowded. The lounge chair thing was a small hassle, but acceptable.

Great location, a 10 minute walk to the towne and many great restaurants. Ask for 10% off coupons to the Galleon, Romeo y Julieta's & the Sea Queen.

The Sea Queen was excellent and the other two are very good. The Sea Queen, is a great resaturant with an classy feel, excellent band, very good sushi, great seafood entree's, and desserts and even has a full playroom (tactfully soundproofed from the main dining room, but with full glass windows so you can watch the children).

Favorite restaurant was Casa Rafael's - on the other side of the marina behind the mall. Very good entertainment, best margarita ever, and great food and service. BTW the ladies like Ramon, one of the Cuban owners.

If you want an authentic experience, try one of the local Taqueria's, we had an excelent but simple meal for 8 for about $60. We also had an interesting serenade from an 8 year old boy who sings nightly. It was a great experience.

The resort itself had fantastic pools, pretty beaches although you can't swim there, and it is not a white or soft sand. The views are gorgeous though!

The weather was consistently perfect. The construction noise was there as you will see many complaints, however I did not find it troubling at all. In fact I fell asleep during the day, in my room, on the balcony and by the pool, all in the midst of the construction.

The gym and spa are not ready, but I toured them, and when they are you will be wowed!

The maid service was excellent. The restaurant was better than most resorts, the service was very good, and the people were helpful and friendly.

The rooms are suites, definitely bigger than a normal hotel room.
Beautiful use of limestone, marble and granite.

We also stayed at the Villa Del Palmar, a major competitor, and I must say that Playa Grande outclasses Villa Del Palmar is every category.

well the construction noise was a factor..8am-8pmwe went on 3/15/04-3/19/04...great looking resort and rooms too. however don't eat there...we found a bug in our ice cube in the coke we ordered, and the manager would not refund the charges of $65.00 for 2, he instead gave us a $4.00 bottle of champaigne. when we told him we wanted a refund, he told us that having bugs in the food and ice is very common....my bad i thought this was a 5 star resort.....anyone else who was there on those days, sorry to tell you the ice machine was comtaminated with little ugly bugs..( i hope no one got sick), we did not eat more than the salad and obviously we lost our appetite, so we payed $35.00 per salad, i hated the salad even. beware vacationer, eat out of the hotel...the margarittavilla was very nice.

Booked this hotel on Expedia. Arrived at 2:00 pm and was told our room would not be ready until 4:00. Waited by the pool to the wonderful sound of HEAVY construction noise (jack hammers, drilling, etc.) I called the hotel the week before regarding onsite construction and was guaranteed that noise was not a problem. The representative said that the noise had been bad during the past month or two but only ?touch-up? work was being done now. The truth is, if you don?t like noise, don?t stay that this hotel for many months to come. LOTS of construction remains. The hotel advertises a gym, massage etc. While waiting we asked if we could work out in the gym. Problem here is none of these services are available yet at the hotel. We were told they?d be available in 2 weeks. Another lie?we spoke to a couple that had stayed there 5 months ago and they were also told the gym would be ready in??2 weeks.? If you want spa services don?t stay that this hotel for many months to come.We booked a Luxury Suite with 2 beds via Expedia (went with a buddy of mine to fish and picked this hotel due to it?s location next to the Marina). Next problem?Playa Grande doesn?t offer 2 beds in a Luxury Suite. No other rooms were offered but the receptionist was nice enough to explain that one of us could sleep on the sofa bed?.To which I replied ?pound sand?. I am a very seasoned traveler and have stayed several times a year in Mexico for 30 years, so I understand the culture. I am also always polite but I must agree with many on this board?the receptionist staff is pretty damn rude. We asked to be moved to another hotel with accommodations similar to what we had paid for. However, as others have said before, if you book through Expedia, you are screwed. The hotel offered a room at the Solmar, their sister hotel. The Solmar was once the jewel of Cabo with a beautiful setting and very nice little pool. When I say ?once? I mean 25 years ago. Hotel is at least 30-40 years old and shows it. Our room did have 2 beds, but was about 1/4 the size of the room we had reserved. It also sells for about $60 less per nite than we paid. We took it and decided to fight it out with Expedia. In summary, we made the best of it but beware of ANYTHING you are told about this property. It is beautiful but it remains a work in progress and will for some time to come. I suggest the Finisterra?right next to this hotel, better pool, nicer / honest staff.

Playa Grande Resort is a beautiful place. The rooms are very nice, complete kitchen, plenty of towels, huge bathtub with great water pressure, lots of candles, plenty of pillows, and two screen doors so you can sit outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of the pacific.

There are several pools, and one of them is up at the beach. We spotted several whales swimming by in the morning.

Getting a spot on the chairs was a bit of a pain, as people "reserved" spaces by placing their towels on chairs and then not claiming them for hours! (rude!).

The staff were mostly friendly and helpful, the maid service was excellent and the facilities very well maintained.

It was convenient to town, far enough away that you felt away from it all, but walking distance to all the nightclubs and restaurants in town.

The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the restaurant, food not that good, overpriced, poor service. (the pool restaurant was ok for lunch though).

For a really nice bar and restaurant, go next door to the Finisterra to the Whale Deck bar and the Blue Marlin restaurant. Very classy place, you'll go back every night!

My husband and I enjoyed our trip in Nov.2003 to Playa Grande. We own time share in 3 other locations, Hawaii, Aruba and Acapulco. We went to Cabo on an exchange on Acapulco and fell in love with Cabo so much, we bought 2 weeks there also. When the new building is completed this year, the resort will be one of the finest in the world! Can't wait to go back this fall!
