“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2010

This resort is fantastic. Yes they do try to get you take a timeshare presentation, but they bribe you with about $400 worth of spa and food credit. The resort is large, but more in a majestic type of way. It is breathtakingly beautiful. We found the service to be fantastic. I really have no idea why other reviewers ever give this place less than 5 stars.

This place is as nice as it gets. Great rooms, food, views & a very friendly staff. We spent a week there and all three families loved every minute of it. The place is a 5 star hotel!!!!

Came here for a wedding - never would have chosen this hotel for myself. First, when you arrive it's a MEGA-HOTEL filled with tourists which is fine. The staff treats you like cattle once you're checked in they send you to this special desk which tricks you into viewing "time shares." They lure you with a coupon to use at their spa. We did the "time share interview" ... when we turned down the offer. Our specialist gave us attitude ... this was all before telling us that he just does this work for fun because he was an heir to Hess oil fortune so he was set. Such a strange thing to tell us, but whatever. Then I had an issue with the ATM. I needed help as I wasn't able to withdraw money. The transaction wouldn't complete and was concerned that my PIN code was on standby and available for another user to come by and withdraw money. The staff was utterly USELESS and didn't lift a finger to help me. They just looked at me like " and this is my problem... because?" After my stay, I complained the corporate office and never heard back a word!

First of all, the location was excellent if you have a car. If you don't get a car you can take their shuttle to their sister hotel which is a short walk to town. The drive with a car is about 10 minutes but about a mile. When we pulled it we were amazed at how beautiful the resort was. We originally had two rooms but when we got there we upgraded to a super presidential suite, in exchange for our two rooms. The suite was nothing short of amazing. The balcony was approximately 500 square feet, maybe more. It had a huge jacuzzi on it that could fit 6 people comfortably. It had a beautiful furniture on it and the most amazing view of the ocean plus you could see most of the resort . The inside was equally as beautiful. Two rooms on each side of a huge living room and kitchen, all open. The bathrooms were so large, it was so comfortable to get ready.

Now for the resort, the restaurants were wonderful and not too expensive. Drinks were 2 for 1 everywhere, for what seemed to be a never ending happy hour. Plus, they gave us four free drink coupons when we arrived. You have to take a golf cart to go anywhere in the resort, but that really added to the ambiance of the resort. The golf carts came very quickly. We would call for one and sometimes it would be there by the time we walked down. The only times that we had to wait was late at night, and the wait was never long.

The pools were beautiful and warm. My favorite was the rooftop pool. It was higher than the whole resort with an amazing view. The main pool was very nice also but it was more crowded. I also expected the beach to be small and rocky from all of the reviews that I read. True, it is rocky, but the beach is large and long, and is so beautiful with nice sand to lay on or walk on. The sunset is totally amazing. The picture of me and my husband by the pool at sunset, looks like we superimposed the background. Everyone who worked there was overly friendly and helpful. The service was impeccable. I don't usually like to go to the same place but I can't wait to go back there, it was so nice!

This is a lovely place to stay. The room was clean with a good sized balcony overlooking the sea. It was nice to have my morning cup of coffee watching whales is the distance. Other reviews complain of a "hard sell" on time share sales but we were not bothered once, the hotel staff are all courteous, friendly and not at all pushy.

The resort is large and many people take the golf buggy's to get around but it is is also easy to navigate on foot, which is what we did, it is steep in parts but the paths are well maintained. There a parrots and flamingoes dotted around the complex and the grounds are immaculate. I enjoyed spotting hummingbirds, butterfly's and small lizards among the flowers. There a five pools but the sky pool has the best view, it did get quite crowded up there though. The beach is really wonderful, we ran along there every morning and it was lovely and quiet. As we enjoy sitting on the beach we spent most of our days at the Pacifica next door, I found the beach and pool there spectacular, it has a real wow factor and if we come here again I think we will stay at the Pacifica.

We did not eat in the restaurants at the Sunset as we took the shuttle to the Rose in the evening, this runs every hour from 10 until 10. This was brilliant as the town centre was in easy reach without actually having to stay there. Truly the best of both worlds! The restaurants seemed to offer a good choice but we just preferred to be in town for dinner.

Overall we both had a lovely relaxing time and I would not hesitate to recommend this resort, although I do wonder if it will be so lovely and peaceful in a few years when the Quivira resort next door has been built, it looks like it will be huge!

Great resort--sweeping vistas from many locations. Great pools. Service in every aspect was spectacular. The resort was supposedly 90% filled when we stayed and it did not seem remotely crowded. There is a bit of a high pressure sales atmosphere at times, but completely worth it.

All is lovely and paradise at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. No complaints about the hotel or location itself-- just wish it had a more swimmable beach without riptides.

More importantly: a word to someone wiser than I...do not buy. There is a tricky sales staff there who will tell you just about anything to get you to purchase a timeshare with them. We did. We wish we hadn't. There is so much on the internet about others like us who were told lies and misreprentations during their sales presentation....material untruths. Do your research. You can buy or rent on the secondary market for a fraction of the cost. It is NOT an investment as they will say. They do NOT have an associate who can sell your existing timeshare for you so you can apply those monies toward the PB Sunset purchase. You will not have the flexibility they promise in terms of securing your chosen week/s. Lies. Lies. Lies. Enjoy the resort, SKIP the sales pitch.
