My husband and I stayed at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in 9/2005 for our honeymoon and we felt completely pampered. The staff was gracious, very accomodating, the rooms were clean the food was excellent (and my husband owns a restaraunt, so he's very particular), and the pools were very clean. We are planning on returning to this hotel for our anniversary.

Another plus is the shutte that takes you into town. The shuttles are beautiful, air-conditioned buses that being you to convenient locations in Cabo.

My husband and I have traveled extensively and this is one of the BEST hotels. The timeshare presentation is not overwhelming, we just told everyone that we had already bought somewhere else, all you have to do is stand your ground and be honest.

We loved the quiet atmosphere at Pueblo, this is not a "party" resort, it's laid back, luxurious and relaxing. We had the time of our lives!!

My wife and I stayed at Pueblo Bonita Sunset Beach in June of 2006.

First the good:
The rooms were very nice. The hotel lobby and restaurants were also beautiful. The place, overall, had a feeling of being very new and clean. The staff were very friendly.

The not so good:
This hotel has far too many rooms/units for the number of pools. The pools were unbareably crowded. And as if the current overcrowding was not enough, they are building even more units on the hillside above the main lobby!

The construction noise was irritating (our room was up at the top of the hill by the lobby). We asked to move and were told no. The next day, we asked again and were again denied. The front desk staff made no effort to help us find a better room.

The Sunset Beach is built on a cliff. A very steep cliff. If you are in the upper units, you are 1/3 of a mile from the ocean. The pictures on the website don't give you that perspective. The myriad switchback trails are traveled non-stop by little golf carts. We wanted to walk around, but found ourselves constantly declining offers from the drivers to ride in the carts; and constantly pressing our bodies up against the walls to allow them to pass. Very annoying.

The bad:
This place was a timeshare mess. We have never seen so many people touring the grounds with their timeshare hosts. It really cheapened the experience for us. I don't know if we just hit a bad week, but it was as if every Elks Club or Claim Jumper in the Southwest had been raided of its patrons, and a Greyhound bus had dropped them all off at the Sunset Beach.

At check-in, we were asked to attend a meeting/presentation for a free meal. We declined. One night at dinner, we were approached (while eating!!) about attending a meeting. Again we declined.

We went to this place thinking we were going to a romantic, secluded, special, and expensive place. Not at all. While it was expensive, we felt anything but special. It was an overcrowded, timeshare Mecca and we felt - as paying hotel guests - foolish to have been there. We paid expensive hotel rates (we booked via the internet), and it was clear that we were not the typical clientele for this place.

We won't be back.

We just returned from a week at Sunset Beach and we loved every minute of it. We have only been back for 4 days and can't wait to go back.
We stayed as guests of my parents who own a timeshare in Arkansas and they exchanged a week in Arkansas for a week at Sunset Beach. We had a 1 BR , 2BA, suite with a kitchenette and living area. Everything was spotless and the maid service was marvelous. Calls for addl. towels, blankets and anything else we needed were responded to promptly, followed by a phone call to be sure we got what we needed.I blew a circuit breaker in the bathroom the 2nd day we were there and someone came and fixed it immediately after we called. We had no problem with noise above or below us nor with the construction that was going on. We were relatively far away from the main part of the resort, so we were not bothered by the golf carts noise at all. We never waited more that a couple minutes for a golf cart to take us anywhere. Even though we were a little ways from the main area, we enjoyed walking alot of the time.(We are in our early 40's with 2 teenagers).
We never found the pools to be crowed and always found lounge chairs to sit in.Perhaps traveling in June, which is their off season, made things more manageable. Even though there were alot of people around, nothing ever seemed crowded and we never waited to eat at any of the restaurants or waited for drinks at any of the pools.
The shuttle to the sister resorts is great, but if you want to take the first shuttle of the day it is a good idea to make those arrangements ahead of time. Otherwise, we were able to get on the shuttle at the times we wanted to. It is a short walk downtown from Rose and we went several times. We ate at Hard Rock Cafe, which was very good with very good service. Also, McDonal's and Burger King, which have typical American menus.
There are alot of people peddling merchandise on the beach and downtown, my kids found this to be the most annoying part of the trip. But, they moved on quickly if you said no thank-you. You can save yourself some money if you go directly the the venders of the jet skis or parasailing for these excursions, instead of using the people at the resorts to arrange these things for you.
We did listen to the timeshare presentation, but did not feel pressured at all. They showed us some beautiful homes they are building and did offer us a pretty good deal if we were in the market to buy, and did not have the option of using my parents week. We got some nice things, over $300 worth, for spending a couple hours with them. We had a week, so didn't mind spending a little time for some free stuff. I never saw anybody bothernig people at any of the restaurants or at the pool.
The entire staff was very accomadating and so very nice. Most everyone spoke very good English, so language was not a problem. My daughter has had 3 years of Spanish, and that did come in handy when we were downtown.
I thought the spa was nice, but rather pricey. The massage was not any different than what I can get at home, but since I got a discounted price, it made it more affordable.
I really cannot say enough nice things about this resort and would recommend to anyone to go there. In fact, I have told everyone who asks me about it,( including my parents who gave us the week to go there) that this is the place to stay if you go to Cabo. It is secluded and private, yet not too far away from things if you do want to do some other things.

We recently returned from a week at the Pueblo Bonito at Sunset Beach. The facility was beautiful and the view from our room was breathtaking. The hotel staff was very professional and yet very personable. The main pool at the resort tended to get rather crowded, but the other pools at the resort were not. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at La Nao restaurant located at the resort. The Mexican buffet that they had at La Nao was pleasing not only to the eye but to the palate. The breakfast menu at El Bistro offered a variety of both American and Mexican cuisine. The food was delicious and the prices were fair. The deli at the resort provided a good choice of sandwiches to pick from on those days when dining in sounded like a good idea. We both also took advantage of the spa facility at the resort. It was a very relaxing and satisfying experience. The water cycle treatment that is offered in both the men's and women's locker rooms after the massages is wonderful. The locker room facility is clean, quiet and very well equipped with anything that you would need. We will definately be making plans to return to this resort in the future.

We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Sunet in May 2006 with my parents. They own a timeshare there. We stayed in a Deluxe Master Suite. First problem - there's two queen beds in one bedroom. Fine if you don't mind sharing a room with your travelling companions. We would have preferred a separate room, which is available in higher priced suites. This bed configuration is the only strange thing about an otherwise great room layout. Balcony is quite large. The kitchen is nice, with a toaster, medium sized refrigerator and cooktop. Seating areas in the livingroom are nice, the couch was a bit on the uncomfortable side. We had a room close to the pool, though it's a bit of a chore to go up to the main building, though there are frequent shuttles to take you wherever you want to go.

The pool is excellent, if not a bit windy at times. It is difficult to find chairs there if you don't get there early, though people respect reserved seats - even though the official hotel policy is that reserving seats is not allowed, not many follow it. This was annoying the first day we were there, but afterwards, not a problem as we got down there early enough.

If you are one that likes to sun on the beach and swim in the ocean, this resort is not for you. There is no swimming in the ocean because of the dangerous riptides, and the beach is quite windy. There is a shuttle to two other Pueblo Bonito properties in Cabo proper which offer a more traditional beach experience. The beach is good for walking and is relatively deserted.

The food was pretty decent at this resort, unlike some of the reviews here. It was pretty standard fare, as far as these type of resorts go. Not 5 star, but nothing terrible either. A fair amount of americanized options, particularly at the pool and bistro. Though, if you really want good Mexican cuisine, a trip into town to something like Panchos is warrented.

The granite tile floors are noisy at night. We had a bottom floor unit and several nights were kept up by people up above us. There were a lot of college age students partying post school year when we were there and making a lot of noise, but the hotel responded well to our complaint of noise at 2 am and the noises stopped/slowed down.

The timeshare people are somewhat relentless as some others have commented here, but understand the word NO very well.

Overall, this is a great resort. Not great value - everything here is pretty expensive, but that's to be expected. Top notch service really makes this place shine. We liked the location and the fact that it was away from the hotel zone in cabo itself, which in recent years has gotten incredibly touristy and harder to enjoy.
