Hello,
my boyfriend and I are both 21 and just returned from a week at the PBSB. Overall, the trip was very romantic and we were very pleased. His parents are owners of an executive suite timeshare they bought there 2 years ago. We booked about 2 months ago and were told that no executive suites were available, and to ensure you get one, you have to book at least 8 months in advance. We agreed to downgrade to a junior king suite, which was adequate considering we were only 2 people anyways. Our suite had a shower-only bathroom with separate toilet area, kitchen with large fridge, 2 burners, settings for 4, a toaster, and a microwave, one king bed, one tv, one small table with 2 chairs, and a balcony. We were right on the beach with a magnificent view of the ocean. The hotel grounds are beautiful and designed to look like a pueblo bonito - a pretty village. There are flamingos and swans and assorted birds placed around the grounds.
We travelled with cape travel from the airport with one other family on our flight. The cost was $17 us/person and the ride is about an hour. Beware that return travel to the airport can be booked from the hotel for $13/person but at scheduled times, you will not be able to custom-book a shuttle for your flight time unless you book a private taxi for $60.
Check-in was rather painless as it was early evening and our room was ready. The golfcarts came quickly for the most part, but we did have to wait for approximately 10 minutes occasionally. We did our grocery shopping at the CCC the night we arrived, and found the prices there very reaosnable and the selection excellent - the best grocery shopping I have seen in Mexico.
The food at the hotel is amazing, but pricy. The food in retsaurants downtown is very expensive and not as good. We loved our meal at La Nao (ginger sesame jumbo shrimp, and surf and turf lobster and steak) and the room service food was delicious. We spent about $100 on dinner including a bottle of wine. The food by the pool is also great, and the cheeseburger is a must (~$12). Alcoholic drinks were expensive ($7) but we ordered our daiquiris at happy hour 3-5 where they were 2for1. The lattes are excellent and only $2.50.
Cabo is great for American dollars. I never changed money into pesos and I received american change. Visa and Mastercard are accepted at all shops and restaurants.
The hotel is still learning how to handle lots of guests. They ran out of beach towels every day, so get yours in the morning and keep it. Our maid was not up to par. All she ever did was make the bed and tidy the washroom and give us a few towels (if we were lucky). There was a sign stating that if you wanted the maid to wash the dishes you had to pay her $2/instance. We did not want her to, but she did one day anyways when I was too tired to wash them before we left for the pool and she left an envelope marked "tip for the maid". I was not impressed. The front-desk staff were mostly useless, and I suggest you direct concerns or questions to the concierge. The reception told us there was no hospitality room on Mondays and that we could not leave our valuable in a safety deposit box in our last day. The concierge provided us with both those services.
The gym and spa are both fabulous. If you are an owner you can use the spa facilities for free, including a hot tub, cold dip, steam room, swiss shower, rain shower, and relaxation-beds. They provide you with a robe, towels, flavoured water or tea, razor, toiletries, a warm-oatmeal neck wrap, etc. I used it everyday. The gym was state of the art with tvs on every bike and elliptical and all the machines you could ask for.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning when the hotel has learned how to handle customers. Feel free to email me with any questions.
Michelle
