We arrived at Pueblo Bonito on Feb 26 and left 3 days later. Both my husband and I, as well as another person we were traveling with, became extremely ill. Come to find out, there has been a huge problem at the resort with guests becoming ill. Yet, they appear to have done NOTHING to solve the problem. Apart from our vacation being ruined and cut short, our service was terrible, the food was not that great, and our room was extremely dirty and beds were uncomfortable. We will NEVER return, and we will earn any friends or acquaintances who consider this report to stay away.

We have been going there for 10 years, drank the tap water, and never been sick. Not so this year. Both of us were sick. We should have been advised they were having trouble with their filtration system, and provided us with bottled water. The public bathrooms were not as clean as they should have been, and lacked enough soap dispensers. Need more shade umbrellas around the pools.

Our first impression was that the resort was frenetic! Too many people for the facility and they are putting in more buildings. Our first room (building nine) had a mold problem. Our second room was separated from new construction by a plastic sheet so needless to say we asked to be moved. The rooms directly next to construction should not be in service - dust and noise - but they were and I bet the people stuck in those rooms were not getting a discount. The development is amazing to see - terraces, flowers, fantastic views but the facilities are overstressed. The gym and spa are too small for the facility. Overall the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Golf carts take you up and down the site. Many restaurant choices were available but unfortunately near the end of our stay many people seemed to be getting sick including three members of our family. The medical staff at the clinic were very professional and we got the assistance we needed. The hotel management did not seem to be concerned about the health problem and did not issue any warnings. Having stayed at Pueblo Bonito, Emerald Bay, Mazatlan for the last three years we were expecting a more serene and relaxing experience. Too many people, too many reservations to have to make for meals, too many people looking for too little shade at the pools. No shade on the beach whatsoever because they haven't gotten around to replacing umbrellas or palapas following the hurricane. The beach is beautiful but you cannot swim. Perhaps management is trying to recoup some of the losses following the storm by packing people in but for us it was a disappointment and I don't think we will go back.

Room Tip: Don't accept rooms next to construction and avoid building nine until the mold problem is taken...

Let me start off by saying that this is our first all-inclusive resort and truth be told, we were not as excited about going as we were for other vacations. We *hoped* it would be nice but were prepared for something lackluster. So, with that said, here's the good, the bad, and the ugly:

Good:
- beautiful resort away from the less than exciting Cabo San Lucas
- the grounds are well maintained
- the rooms are spacious
- plenty of pools
- buffets were above average (about as good as you could do)
- Zao Chen (Asian food restaurant) was average. It had some Chinese items, Thai, etc...we ate here twice and found a few decent options. It's also a good place for breakfast if you want a smaller menu without the hassle of all the busyness.
- The Bistro was quite average and on the two nights we ate there, understaffed
- La Frida (premium restaurant) was delicious
- pools were nice, warm, clean
- adult pool was excellent and definitely enforced when parents tried to bring their kids

Bad:
- if you haven't been to an all inclusive, like us, it was a totally different culture that went unexplained (how to pay for meals, tip, etc)
- too many people for us (would try for the Pueblo Bonito Pacifico next time)
- sitting at the adult pool you can hear the constant sound of carts driving around and the spinning instructor motivating people (in the early morning only)
- the beach is beautiful but encouraged
- New Years Eve was a disappointment. There was nothing to do except pay for a crazy expensive party on the beach.


The Ugly
- we went between Christmas and New Years and as a result, the service definitely suffered. The ration of guests to employees as noticeably bad. Tables were left uncleaned with lines at the buffet for breakfast or dinner taking up to an hour. Unfortunately, there were lots of frustrated guests. As the Christmas crowd left, the resort ended up thinning out a bit but it seems as though they should have known the rush was coming. Poor planning on their part.
- food by the adult pool was terrible, borderline atrocious. The only thing that we had that was decent was the nachos. We took the approach of the less cooking required, the more acceptable the food was.

Hope this was helpful. We'd definitely return and possibly even between Christmas and New Years (although we'd wait for the Christmas crowd to leave).

Just returned yesterday with my wife from Puert Bonito Sunset Beach. After reading reviews on trip adviser I had concerns. The following is my own experience. Check in was pretty smooth and we were given choice of 2 buildings and we chose # 17. The room was clean, the lump people complain about on the mattress is just the top mattress cover and smooths out easily. The complaints of construction noise are not accurate, room quiet. The resort is built on a steep hill and walking is an exercise but very doable. For the older set ( Iam 59) the carts are plentiful and donot put out obnoxious fumes like some posts stated. We had the all inclusive and we were not treated any differently by any of the staff. The staff was very friendly and service was good where ever we dined, even at or in the pool. PLEASE tip these poor folks! Iam quite their wage alone would not suffice without tips. I watched people on all inclusive order food and drinks and not leave them a dime. As for the sales people trying to sell timeshares, we were approached a total of 3 times in a week and we told them no kindly and that was the end of. The pools need more umbrellas. The food at breakfast buffet very good but food there rest of day not that great. Went to Pacifiva one night for dinner, was excellent. Had nice lunch at clubhouse at Quivera ( golf course). While ther a number of people developed gastrointestinal problems either nausea and vomiting or diarrhea or both. I truly feel they knew there was a problem but did not tell guests not to drink the tap water and did not provide bottle water in rooms till several days in to our stay. My wife and I are both physicians and ended up treating 2 guests that were friends of ours with antibiotics and antiemetics we purchased in town and they recovered quickly. The word in the resort was that it was a virus but my feeling is that it was due to the water and was bacterial. Donot forget that the hurricane damaged the desalination plant and we saw several places where water pipes had been repaired. Would this deter me from returning? The answer is no. The hurricane did tremendous damage and the farther out from that event they go I feel things will continue to improve for this beautiful resort.

We had such a blast visiting this resort.
Specifically at the Pool Villa 17! We went there the first day and was served by Fidencio and Jorge Montano who are so much fun! They were very professional, make excellent cocktails and had such fun personalities! The food they served was just as we ordered and tasted delicious.
We ended up going back to the same pool (Villa 17) for an additional two days because we had such a great experience.

If you visit this resort, be sure to ask for Fidencio and Jorge at Villa 17.

We just returned from a week at the resort, and once again the check-in was a long and unpleasant experience. They never have rooms available that should be available, so we once again had to spend one night in one room, and then move to another room. Their system is very antiquated and it took them 20 minutes to tell us they couldn't find a room. The lines are always long, and when you finally get through, it's another 30 minute wait for a cart to the room. They supposedly stored our luggage for 4 hours, but when no one would ever retrieve it for us, I went looking. I found it all sitting out on the veranda with everyone else's luggage, where anyone could easily have taken it.

They really need to figure out a better system for assigning rooms when guests make their reservations, so they don't overbook and you know what you're getting. It would make check-in faster and start the vacation off on a positive note. Instead, you could tell that most others were having similar experiences just standing in line waiting. It was worse than getting through immigration at the airport.

The rest of our stay was pleasant, but this always starts things out very poorly.

Room Tip: You have no choice in selecting a room - that's a problem!
