My family just came back from our stay at the PB Sunset Beach from Nov 2nd to Nov 9th and I should say that I was extremely impressed by the resort. I have not been to any vacation resort in Mexico in the popular locations - so I have nothing to compare to but as a vacation spot for a family getaway, the resort is absolutely gorgeous. Here are some categories that I wanted to write some feedback on:

Suite Design:
It is designed very well with spacious rooms (ours was a 1200 sq ft one bedroom, two full baths suite) and it was very well maintained. It is well thought out, every room has an ocean view, and very large patios with comfortable patio furniture. It was great waking up to and sleeping to the rythm of the Pacific Ocean in your ears (compared to the busy freeway hum of my Southern California home). The bathrooms were all marble/tile/dark wood and very spacious. The kitchen stove has two electric burners and they operated well enough for our limited cooking. I know there were reviews here where people were not satisfied with the burners - but we had no isssues. All the cookware and dishes provided were more than sufficient and well maintained - none were chipped, or scratched or broken etc. There are enough glasess, bowls, plates - I just took some plates for the kids that they were comfortable with - the lightweight kids character ones that I knew I didn't have to be scared about them breaking and which weren't too expensive if I needed to leave it behind. We did take some food to see us through the week - the intention was to shop locally there for basics like water, juice, milk, eggs, yogurt - but we ended up buying all these on an as-needed basis from the resort's two stores and never made it to town to do groceries. Be prepared to pay 3 times the price you may be used to in the U.S though. The only issue I had was little tiny ants everywhere (it got into our cereal box the very first day - so we had to toss out a good enough cereal box that we brought from back home) - so make sure you keep food well covered and away from ants. There was a safe deposit box with the combination lock in the room, so make sure to use that for your important valuables like passports etc.

Amenities:
My 19 month old son became very sick with congestion, high fever etc as soon as we landed there, and we were very stressed out about being far away from the city to find a doctor - but a call to the concierge gave us the happy news that there was a doctor on the premises from 9 to 7pm. We took our son there, it was a clinic with all the basics - after some oxygen with decongesting medicine for 20 mts - he did much better. She had 4 types of prescription medicines - we didn't even have to go into town to fill it - the concierge called it in to the pharmacy - they delivered it to the resort and it was left in our room on the kitchen counter by the time we came back from dinner. That was very efficient. All the medicines worked well and he felt good enough to go into the water by our 3rd day of vacation there. The concierge is extremely efficient at answering all your questions. I wasn't too thrilled about the golf cart business - after some time it became boring to always jump into and out of a cart instead of being able to casually walk to and from our room. But since it is perched on top of a steep hill, walking becomes difficult since you have to share the path with the golf carts and you are always looking over your shoulder to see if one is going to run into you or if you are going to face one around the corner. We also had to tip them each time. My logic is that it was designed so that they can continue to have more venues to get the tourist dollars!

Beds:
For those of you who may have a back problem, be advised that they use some kind of a quilted comforter on the beds below the sheets that really is not stable and keeps moving all over the place so the bed looks slanted to the sides and we kept slipping off - then finally on the 4th day I decided to pull out all the sheets and see what was underneath and pulled it out to keep it aside. After that, it was much better. I think their good intention was to provide a soft cushiony bed, but it did not work for me. The mattress's pillow top worked just fine.
Food: We dined at the Bistro several times and loved the food there and so did the kids. I found it to be reasonably priced for a luxury resort. We tried several of their entrees and found everything to be of good quality. I loved their desserts (little secret tip is that they have the identical desserts at the deli store in the front for a dollar lesser - so if you have the sweet tooth craving at night, the store is open till 11 pm - so get yourself dessert to go from the store after dinner!). We also had breakfast at La Nao which was reasonably priced at $17 (kids ate free - but in my case - the kids were just not in a mood to eat anything that morning). It is a buffet and it's a big spread - they also custom made omelettes and quesadillas. The unique part about this breakfast buffet was the dozen different types of yogurt they had - so if you are a yogurt fan - check it out. The pineapple and papaya juice is also very good at La Nao's breakfast. We made a list of all the great restaurants mentioned in all these reviews in town but never made it to any of them. However, when we visited the Mission/church in San Jose Del Cabo, we came upon a great Italian restaurant called La Dolce right across the Mission which had great food and a nice ambience. Check it out if you are in that area. I liked their Sangria there.

Transportation:
We got away the whole week without having to rent a car despite having a 3 yr old and 19 month old. The convenience of having a shuttle take us to the sister resort Pueblo Bonito Rose and taking a cab from there to downtown Cabo was the best thing. We even took the local bus all the way through the Tourist corridor to San Jose Del Cabo. Make sure however, that you pre-book your airport shuttle.

Pools:
We hung out by 3 of the 4 pools and since I don't really swim I was in the 2 feet side with my kids. But it all looked nice with the swim up bars etc which were at the 4 feet level - still not bad. All the cabanas were always taken and people basically didn't move out of them, so there's no chance really of anyone else getting one of those if you don't arrive early. But there were plenty of other shaded umbrella spots. They have happy hours at every pool every day between 3-4pm where the drinks are 'Buy one get one Free'. I liked the Long Island Iced tea. I used the Jacuzzi the last night of our vacation, and I may have gotten some kind of skin allergy - I haven't stopped itching since then and have broken out all over my skin like little red bites - so I don't know if it's from staying too long in the Jacuzzi or the water quality. It wasn't too hot or anything - but not sure what happened.

Overall, it was a great experience at the resort, people are very friendly and helpful. The other resort guests were friendly too. Everything is very efficient in terms of service and response to a guest's needs. I would highly recommend this for any family vacation,but the mix is older people and families with little kids. Don't expect to find many young honeymooners here, or activities by the beach etc - this is not the place - the Pacific Ocean is not even suitable for wading in - they have a security guard on the beach keeping a keen eye on anyone who ventures close to the ocean - there are 8 foot waves that can catch you unaware. If you want peace, quiet and privacy - this is the place for you. After the hustle and bustle by the resorts on the beach on Medano Bay, it feels like a welcome respite to come back to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights, Nov 9th – Nov 12th. The view was breathtaking. The pools were nice. The beach was wonderful. But the service was lousy. It was definitely not a 4 star hotel service. After waiting for 20 minutes in the line to be checked-in, the Front Desk employee did not even apologize for the long wait, which typically a 4 star hotel Front Desk employee would do. During the check-in, I saw the check-out time was at 10AM. I nicely asked if we could have a late check-out because this trip was to celebrate my 30th birthday on Nov 12th. I even showed him my driver license. He did not wish me “Happy Birthday” or anything along that line. He did not have any reaction and only responded that we could check-out at noon. I nicely asked him again if he could extend it and let us check-out at 1PM. He said “No.” Then I asked him again if we could check-out at 12:30PM. He responded that he would have to charge us $100 if we check-out at 12:30PM or at 1PM. I gave up trying. I did not want to spend $100 to be checked out at 1PM, which was typically a normal free late check-out time provided by a 4 star hotel. A 4 star hotel typically has check-out time set at 11AM or 12PM. I had never seen check-out time at 10AM until I went to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach.

After we finished check-in, we were stopped by the Timeshare sales person asking for our drink coupons. We would have never gotten them if we did not go back in line to talk to the Front Desk employee who just checked us in and demand for the drink coupons. When he handed those coupons, he did not tell us that there was a process we had to follow in order to be able to use these coupons. We found that out at the restaurant The Bistro when we handed the coupons to the waiter. He told us we had to get the coupons stamped in order for them to be valid. Since this was our last night, while waiting for the food, my husband went to the lobby and tried to get them stamped. The Front Desk employee told him that there was nothing he could do because the Timeshare sales person was already gone for the day. My husband asked for the Manager on Duty and he responded that there was no Manager on Duty. How could a 4 star hotel not having a Manager on Duty? Luckily the Bistro’s Manager (Carlos) was nice and understanding of our situation that he took one coupon and gave us the 1 free drinks. The food at The Bistro was pretty good! La Nao was pretty good as well, but a little pricey.

At the end, we were able to get a check-out at 12:30PM easily (without even bringing up my birthday) when they moved us to a new room on the 3rd floor. We could hear the neighbor flushing the toilet in the room we were in. I am not sure if this had anything to do with the fact that we were on the 1st floor and on that particular room. We did not hear it anymore in the new room.

Overall, my 30th birthday getaway was not as I expected due to the problems we encountered that could have been prevented in the first place.

Pueblo Bonito sunset beach is gorgeous! The grounds are well kept, the architecture is nice, the views are amazing, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and luxurious.

My wife and I and two friends shared a villa room for one week and it was easily spacious enough for the four of us: with two large bathrooms, a kitchenette, a bedroom, and a fold out in the living room. We enjoyed the balcony view of the pacific ocean. Hotel staff was very accommodating. We didn't get inundated with timeshare sales pitches (probably because we are younger and don't fit the bill for prospective buyers). Each of the many different pools were nice. We only ate at the bar and at the bistro, but the food was good (if a little pricey). Happy hour drinks are two for one, so that was nice.

It is a ways out of town, so this can be both an asset and an annoyance. Its a mostly quiet place away from the crowds and hustle of downtown cabo, but its less convinient if you're looking for nightlife (fortunately we weren't). During the day there are free shuttles that can take you into Cabo and drop you off at the sister resort there, but they only run till 10pm. Otherwise you'll need to take a cab into town. At some places in the hotel you can access free WiFi. There is a little store on the premises too, but items are marked up a bit compared to in town. In reality, though Pueblo Bonito restaurants are a little bit expensive-- its not much worse than most hotel restaurants in the U.S.

All in all, we had a great relaxing vacation at Sunset Beach. We went in the "off-season" of September, and did have one day of rain and many days of high heat. By going in September and booking through a friends travel club we got a great price... but I would still say that PBSB is an excellent resort even if it is a little on the pricey side.

We had a great time on our honeymoon at this hotel. The views were amazing... truly the best sunset views we've seen.

The restaraunts at the hotel were so-so, but La Frida is worth the price. We tried a sampling menu that included 7 courses and all were delicious. A highlight of the trip was taking a cooking class with the executive chef Antonio. He was funny, personable, and we had a fabulous lunch tasting all the food he made.

The guacamole and all of the drinks (pina coladas, miami vice, and dirty monkey). at the poolside cafes were really good. Be sure to find out when happy hour is because they have half price drinks.

My husband called the hotel in advance and told them we were coming for our honeymoon and asked for a free upgrade, and they gave it to us. The upgraded room included a private hot tub on the balcony! We also got chocolate covered strawberries and champagne on the second night of our stay.

Be sure to do the timeshare tour to get free gift certificates. We got $200 in gift certificates to use towards restaraunts on site (we used it all at La Frida), and $100 towards the spa (which covered about half the cost of a couples massage). Negotiate with the person trying to get you to take the tour, because you can also get discounted coupons for activities and perhaps more gift certificates. We were able to get 20%-40% off all activities inlcuding snorkeling, horseback riding, and a dinner cruise.

One of the best restaraunts we found off site was Miguel Locos in town on the street Miguel Hidalgo. $2 margaritas before 5pm, and their ranchero beans (served with every meal) were fantastic. My husband enjoyed the coconut shrimp with mango salsa. While we were there another group came in with their fresh catch from the sea and the chef cooked it up for them. The prices were very reasonable compared to other restaraunts in the area. PLUS it is air conditioned.

Make sure to do the Wide Open Baja dune buggy racing. We did the 12 lap package and I screamed the whole time. My husband had the time of his life and recommends driving as many laps as you can afford. (you get better and better at handling the car each lap). If you get hungry while waiting at the Wide Open, you can walk next door to a good taco place. The vege taco is very good.

Another highlight was the beach hopping tour snorkel tour. We went to lovers beach, divorce beach, santa maria beach, and one other. There were tons of fish, and the boat went really fast (almost like riding a roller coaster). We even saw a whale surfacing! We would recommend taking a cab and visiting the Santa Maria beach on your own. Its probably about 15-20minutues from downtown cabo, but worth it because it seems to be a locals beach. (Not as many peddlars).

All in all, a great trip. BUT if you are looking for a place to sit out on the beach, you may want to find another hotel. No swimming in the ocean allowed here due to dangerous rip currents. However the pools are nice and you can take a free shuttle to sister resorts where there is beach swimming. (If you want to save a cab ride to/from the city to the hotel, take the free shuttle to the Rose and walk... about 10 min.)
