My family, as well as my Brother's family - a total of 10 adults - seven individuals between 17 and 27 - stayed at Pueblo Bonito
Sunset Beach from Dec. 21/07 to Jan. 4t/08. We all had the best vacation we have ever had! I cannot think of one negtive comment about the resort - it is stunningly beautiful, the service and people are amazing, the food was fantastic and the pools and beach were great . Contrary to one persons review, we walked on the beach every day we were there, sometimes in the surf and always to the end- past the owners property - not once did I ever see any guards or individuals prohibiting you in any way. There is a staff member on the beach in front of the resort to ensure that there is no swimming as the waves come in fairly strong and it would be foolish to swim there. I think it's great that they look after their guests safety in this manner as there are some people with questionable mental competence who would attempt to surf or swim in the ocean at this location. As far as the timeshare individuals, we were politely asked when we were checking in if we would be interested in attending a presentation - we declined and never heard another word from anyone. The weather was perfect each day we were there and we watched whales, dolphins, cruise ships and fishing boats from the amazing view on our balcony. Although the golf cart service was fantastic, we often walked to our destination for the exersize - it really helped you not to feel overly indulgent with all the food and drink consumed on holidays - and to explore the resort with all the gorgeous foliage, flamingos, parrots, swans, fish pond, etc. In regards to the odor when the plants were being watered, which is only in the early morning so as not to bother anyone, I commend the resort for using 'grey' water for this purpose - it's eco-friendly. Anyone who can't appreciate this resort or finds something to complain should re-think their attitude and their view of life.

Don't stay here! Like a prison/dictatorship - you have no rights here - literally. The owner's henchmen will not allow you to walk on the beach, fish, etc., and if you even near the rocks on the beach under the owner's mansion immediately adjacent to the hotel's only beach (that is clearly marked with a sign, as with all Mexican beaches, that states that you are entering Federal property (public property)), you'll be affronted by a squad of guards that has no regard for the meaning of public property/access, even in the face of the posted signage. This is a disgrace and likely illegal, but as Mexico, seemingly goes under the radar. Only via consumerism and tranparency to this sort of thing through vigilent information sharing will these sorts of unnaceptable horrible practices get noticed by hitting the wallet, so to speak. The facility is lovely - outside of very extensive construction, but by all accounts, oversold to mostly elderly folks, as we discussed with many timeshare holders that booked years in advance only to not have room preference requests (confirmed in writing) honored & this is a big deal based on the vertical layout. Additionally, we primarily carefully ate only here, as a short stay, and I contracted a fierce case of Montezuma's revenge. It is also noteworthy that based on the vertical layout, the beaches are likely highly polluted anyway, as washoff pipes run out directly at the beach level and this is as big complex - so toxic walks in the sand to boot. For addtl. context, have travelled the world over (w emphasis on 3rd world here) - recently to the likes of India, Thailand & Bali, and this place takes the cake - would advise avoiding at all cost.

  • Liked — Leaving.
  • Disliked — Corrupt "police state" atmosphere, cavalier attitude, verticall layout, expensive food/drink, agressive sales.

Management response from GMSunset, General Manager
(Management representative)
Feb 6, 2008
I appreciate TripAdvisor giving me the opportunity to set the record straight on some of the fallacies, misconceptions and assumptions expressed in this unfortunate Review. Guests are indeed welcome to fish on the beach, despite the false claim by this reviewer. The sign on the beach near the private residence states “private property”, not “public property” as this reviewer incorrectly states.

The resort is not oversold, as incorrectly assumed by this reviewer, and as I have explained with great detail and numbers in response to another review on this website. Our valued timeshare owners are well-informed as to our strict policy on suite assignments. The Welcome Newsletter tells them that “Not all suites become available for occupancy every week. Many owners have bought multiple weeks and use them consecutively. When assigning the suites that become vacant during a given week, we must rely strictly on the consecutive confirmation numbers issued when reservations are made. The first owner to have requested a particular unit will be assigned that unit if it is available. Owners are able to reserve up to 365 days in advance, and many owners do exactly that. We can never confirm or guarantee specific units, buildings or views. Only the fixed-week owners of our exclusive Super Executive or Super Presidential suites, and Christmas owners are guaranteed a certain unit.” This information is also provided in the owner’s section of our website.

The final false assumption of this reviewer is that the rainwater runoff canals that lead to the beach are somehow harmful. Nothing could be further from the truth. And out of respect to the Mexican Government, the environmental laws are absolutely rigid and are enforced by frequent inspections.

The time -share people hound you. They lie. Beware the sales people. They get you to buy pretending this is an investment. The whole Cabo area has too many timeshare people. They bother you while you are trying to relax. So, I rate this hotel terrible, because they ruined my vacation.

It's all about location. Set away from Cabo San Lucas on a hillside is
one of the best vacation spots that my wife and I have ever been. We had an excellent time in this secluded environment. We really never had to leave the resort which was a plus in our book. So, if you really just want to get away and relax without dealing with the normal
tourist BS, this is the place for you. Pros: Staff was amazing, possible timeshare a plus, excellent location, great restaurants, golf courses, multiple swimming pools, THE SPA Treatment Only con, but
it should impact the trip: 1-No Wireless Internet Service in rooms

I have to say, if you are not happy here, you wont be happy anywhere :) This resort is 5 STAR and is wonderful. We traveled here with a group of 20 during the Oct Break for our Kids and let me tell you, amazing ! Weather was amazing, Staff was amazing ! Hotel is stunning. View's from our Room were just the most beautiful we had ever seen !! I have been to Cabo 7 times but never for more than a day due to cruise ship hours and I have to say, this was the vacation of a life time. We will be back every year, same time ! Spa was awesome ! Food was to die for ! Golf carts are great. You have the option of walking down the hill and some days we did just for that extra workout :) We ate and ate and drank :) And I still lost 3 lbs upon returning home. I was so relaxed here ! Volleyball in the pool was a blast ! Resort was clean and very well taken care of. We went down to the holistic spa at the end of the hill, marvelous. I have traveled alot and I would have to say this rates in the top 3 of places I have been :) We also went to the Rose and I felt it was not as elegant and as classy as the sunset but beautiful in its own way. I would also stay there again ! Love the fact that at the Rose you can go down to the beach, eat coconut shrimp, dance and have a great time. We had the presidential suite and the hot tub on the huge patio deck was awesome. And it was Cleaned and serviced each day !! Wouldnt change a thing and we will be back !! Thanks PB for an awesome vacation !! It was so wonderful when I got back I ended up getting my own website
