Arrived Sun Nov 11. Had an issue with Grey Line with a pickup so did not get to the resort until 8pm. Enjoyable dinner at main restaurant; nothing too special.
Room was an ocean view, but were on bottom floor of building, so actually could only see the garden at night. Room itself was perfect - jr suite, shower no tub, but worked well. Once there was daylight, you could see all the way to the Pedregal and catch a few glimpses of the waves.
Next day did the timeshare thing - first time in 10 years - and of course 90 mins turned into 3 hrs. Did not get much of a tour of resort, but no real high pressure wheeling/dealing. Did not buy.
Rest of day at the pool near the beach - nice service for lunch, great pool, saw sunset from the cabanas on the beach, then a good dinner on the patio at Nao near the pool. (Nothing like someone with a cigar at the next table to make a meal distracting...I guess that happens when you have a cigar bar at the resort! You should have see the exodus of diners.)
The grounds are well maintained, and it takes getting used to the carts, especially when you are a ways from the main building and the pools. They can get distracting with the noise at night if you like to keep the doors open to the balcony. Except for the first day, the shuttle service was quite prompt.
The pools - fantastic ones everywhere at the resort for every taste; adult lap pool near the main building, separate kid pool, large pool at the beach with the largest shaded jacuzzi that could actually seat 30 people, another one just above our room that was nearly always deserted, and the magnificent new Sky Pool on the top of the mountain over the Pacific.. All pools except the lap pool had swimup bar and restaurant; that one had chair service.
La Frida - let me say that I always considered Cafe De Artists in Puerto Vallarta the only world class restaurant I have been to on the coast of Mexico....I have to say La Frida exceeds that high level for food although not for ambience. Intimate, colorful, musical (yes, piano and fabulous singer...and no hands out for tips either!), and feast for nose, tongue, and eyes. This is the best of Cabo. No list of wines by the glass, but you ask, they bring a good bottle, and pour.
Other things
- boat trip on Pez Gato at sunset (Tropicat was full) was quite enjoyable.
- lunch and Margaritas at The Office is the ritual.
- visit to PB Blanco using shuttle was convenient, but this resort now pales against PBSB for the grounds, and it is really a preferrence for Medano vs. Pacific which each person has to make for themselves.
- dinner at Sancho Panza at the "Tesoro" - no live music that night, but very creative food which was delicious, and a good wine list.
- Avis rental at PBSB which was arranged from the PB Rose was good. Basic manual car with ac for $71 all inclusive. Used 1/2 tank gas to go to Todos Santos, La Paz and back. Lots of road work going out of CSL north, and the last stretch into La Paz.
- Lunch at Cafe Santa Fe was delightful, everyone was on the patio, including Italian-speaking tourists.
- Lots of street activity due to the Baja 1000 coming in on Wed/Thursday. Driving can be challenging especially at night as the days get shorter.
- Stopped at Cabo Wabo - nicer that I remember in the patio area with a 3 piece group of guitarists playing some Rock n Roll standards. Nice Margartas for sure. This place can vary from fun to tacky to just plain boring. Today was fun outside.
- Last night dinner at Mi Casa - wow is this place a lot bigger! Been 5 years and it is now 3 buildings. Still maintains some charm. Got seated immediately; good Margaritas...but still I like The Office or Cabo Wabo better.
