My husband and I and another couple visited Cabo in late January 2006. I had done quite a bit of research since I had never visited the area before. The place that kept coming up was the Villa La Estancia. My expectations were exceeded at this resort. The villas were absolutely spectacular, with very open and large areas, very nicely furnished and an awesome huge balcony overlooking the pool area and the sea. The only complaint that I would have is that the way the villas are set up, you may have unknown guests sharing your balcony. When I first read about this in other reviews, I didn't realize how much of an inconvenience this was. The resort needs to find a better way to separate the two areas, other than using a see-through bamboo divider. Next time, I believe that I would go ahead and rent the other side as well to keep privacy. The pool area was extremely nice, with a traditional swim up bar. There were at least five very large hot tubs, one of which was overlooking the sea. The resort is in walking distance (on the beach) to the little bars and restaurants in downtown Cabo. There are the typical vendors trying to sell things but if you ignore them, they go away. I had no complaints about the sand, but my friends and my husband complained that the granules were like small pebbles and hurt their feet. If this was the only bad thing, then no big deal. We ate at some fabulous restaurants...I am now Edith's biggest fan! Whale watching was absolutely worth it. The golf was quite pricey. I will definitely look forward to going back here next january!

Villa La Estancia is a lovely place, and the staff is very eager to please. We went with our 3 year old and 18 year old daughters in late February (and had glorious weather, by the way!). The units are very nice and very spacious. Massive master bathroom --larger than most Manhattan apartments. The concierges are good at recommending restaurants, but you should also use the Fodor's Guide to Los Cabos--we got some great ideas from that book too. Get the grilled fish at most restaurants--it is unbelievably fresh! The sushi at Nick San was quite good too. Also good is the Fiesta night next door at Villa Del Palmar--fun entertainment for families, with all-you-can-drink-tequila and beer for Mom and Dad. BUT, be aware: there is MAJOR construction next door to Villa La Estancia and it is LOUD. It won't be done till at least this summer. We renewed our wedding vows on the beach and had to talk over the jackhammer at 5 pm! We also heard the construction starting around 7:30 or 8 a.m. That was a drag. Don't let the hotel tell you that you won't hear it--if you're on that side of the hotel, as we were, you will hear it! --Another point: The hotel staff tried to get, and succeeded in getting, a cash "gratuity" from us in order to upgrade us from a garden view room to an ocean view room. That was a little uncomfortable for us. But all in all, the beach is lovely (though not especially swimmable); the pools are quite nice and you get good food and beverage service there; the units are big and clean and well-furnished; and I think we would return. But I would want to check out what else there is in Cabo at the same price point, since the 2-bedroom units here run from about $700-900 a night, which is not cheap! This was out first time in Cabo and we really enjoyed the weather, the culture, the food and the people, so we can definitely give a rave review to Cabo in general, and a strong review to Villa La Estancia.

We just returned from our first trip to Cabo. We loved everything about it. The view from the hotel was just breath-taking. We had a beautiful three bedroom unit on the 1st floor which made it very easy for our children to come in and out. Getting chairs around the pool is a problem (It was President's week and it was very crowded). All the food was great. Eric the Consierge was very helpful with finding us just the right restaurants in town (try LaDolce for a casual Italian meal when you need a break from Mexican food). Cabo is very casual so don't pack dressy clothes because you probably won't wear them.

We can't wait to come back. In fact, we loved it so much we purchased a membership and the new Villa DelArco next door. If you view the timeshare, you will get a gold card which entitles you to discounts on food and other items during your stay. I would recommend it, it only took a short time.

Give yourself an extra day for traveling. The trip from the East Coast is long. As far as I know, only Continential offers a direct flight from Newark and that took 7 hours (not including a 2 hour delay). The hotel is about 40 mintues from Cabo airport. Also, when you are leaving, make sure you are at the Cabo airport at least 2 hours before. The lines literally back up out the door!

My family and I stayed at La Estancia over the Christmas holidays 2005. I cannot say enough positive things about the hotel/condo. The staff was excellent and friendly, our room was like a King's castle and the views from the balcony were awe inspiring. The pool was a great place to relax during the day, but you need to get there early to reserve a chair. The rest of the guests were wealthy and likable, although there were few people under 30, thereby prohibting what could have been a wild time at the swim-up bar. Even the hotel restaurants were very good, albeit very pricey (note: all Cabo restaurants of good quality are pricey). La Estancia's location was perfect. Not right in the busy downtown area but close enought walk of take a short cab ride too. It felt like a resort but was not isolated. There was plenty to do on the beach as well, including parasailing and jet-skiing only yards away. Even the landscaping was colorful, tropical and very well-maintained. I highly suggest a stay here, especially in the winter months.

The rooms and service at Villa La Estancia were amazing!!! They were way above par compared to other hotels in the area. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept up. The staff is very friendly and helpful in every way imaginable. The condos are wonderful - it is so nice to have the convenience of a washer and dryer and an upscale full kitchen.
