My wife and I returned to Villa La Estancia for a second time last week. We were thrilled that the high level of service has been continued.

We were assisted wherever we were by enthusiastic and friendly staff. We had no trouble getting chaises by the pool and the staff would bring over umbrellas for us. The pool drink staff was always around, but not pushy. The pools are huge and beautiful and there are 5 hot tubs.

We loved strolling on the long beach and walking to the Office for dinner and breakfast. Water sports were available right on the beach in front of the resort. We had a number of breakfasts, lunches and even dinner at Villa La Estancia and enjoyed all the meals. We also ate next door at the 2 sister resorts (they are time shares).

Our suite was well appointed and the view tremendous. We enjoyed sharing a drink on the huge balconey watching the cruise ships leave.

Recommended restaurants - Niksan, Tequila, French Riviera, Edith's (don't miss!). We played Cabo Del Sol Ocean, Cabo Country Club and Palmilla and even went deep sea fishing. We also recommend the Rissalena for a sunset cruise. Eduardo and his crew were great.

We are totally pleased and look forward to our next visit back to Cabo and Villa La Estancia.

We were very disappointed with the room and did not feel that the staff was very supportive nor friendly. We will return to Cabo, but not to this hotel or any of it's partners. On top of the poor service, the food was putrid, the rooms swelled like a combination of urine and vomit and they overcharge for the food --even after you pay an exorbitant amount of money for your room. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST IF YOU WANT TO AVOID HAVING YOUR TRIP RUINED! SERIOUSLY. In the first day I stayed in this place, I tried to take a shower and the water came out yellow from the pipe. Call the concierge and was told that it is normal and I had to wait and the water would get better. Lies , Lies and Lies... I had to take a shower in the yellow water for 2 nights so I decided to check out and find another place. They don't even provide towels for the guests inside the room, because I run out of towels in the second day and nobody come over to offer towels to us or even clean the room. The concierge Jimy, Henrique were very rude and made us feel really unwelcome. Horrible place AVOID IT AT ALL COST

Amazing Villa Estancia

Arrived Sep 22 till Oct 2. Booked via Travelocity a studio, after seeing the jacuzzi in the Villa, we decided to upgraded.
The property is rigth on the best part of the Medano beach, clean well organized, well kept , we liked very much.

The staff is ultra friendly and profesSional, from the maid to the rest
waiters, everybody worked hard to make us feel welcome

I will suggest this place to couples in search of quite quality time.

Only problem, there was some work being done in the penthahouse roof, the drilling was bad, al day long, quite annoying.

For the rest it was amazing place.

After staying at Villa La Estancia multiple times, including a recent visit in March 2007, we can offer the following comments about VLE:

1. All the Villas at VLE are privately owned, with the exception of a few units that the developer hasn't sold. Some of the owners place their units in the developer's rental pool and it is these units that the developer offers for rent via Expedia, etc... Other owners rent their own units out or place them for rentals with various property managers.

2. Most of the Villas consist of two bedroom, three bath units. These units can be configured as a one-bedroom, two bath unit or a single "hotel" type room with no kitchen. This is why rooms share a balcony.

3. If you book via Expedia, you're not guaranteed the room of your choice. You can't specify the view you want or the location in the resort. PRO: If you don't like your room, you can likely change. CON: see above. If you book a room without kitchen or a one-bedroom suite, you may end up sharing the balcony with another party (see above).

4. If you book via a private owner or a rental agency that specifies the unit number that you will be renting, you can ask about the customization of the unit by the owner -- for example, many owners have upgraded the unit with temperpedic mattresses, dvd movies, VOIP phones and even stocked bars (honor system -- finish a bottle, leave a bottle). PRO: you get the unit you paid for. CON: you get the unit you paid for -- meaning, if you don't like it, you can't switch units.

Note: most owners will not "split" the unit into two rentals, mostly due to the shared balcony.

5. Food onsite is VERY expensive. Go to Costco and the CCC market and stock up. It's great to have breakfast and lunch at your Villa, then go into town for dinner. Thirsty at the pool? Be sure to buy some plastic cups (if your Villa doesn't have them) and mix your own (this is allowed). By the way, the guacamole at the pool is incredible, but expensive ($12).

6. Tip, tip, tip. This is Mexico and tips are VERY appreciated by the staff. Tip your maid on the first day and you'll get the extra service you want. Not saying that sans-tip that you won't get great service, but WITH tip, you're assured of it. Bring $50 of one's and five's and you'll have a much better time in Cabo due to it!!

7. Villa La Estancia guests have use of the pools at Villa Del Mar and Villa del Arco (both adjacent to VLE). However, VDM and VDA guests cannot use the VLE pool. The pool at VDA is GREAT, and as they're still selling timeshares at VDA, they keep the pool what we call "timeshare warm," which is almost like a jacuzzi spa.

8. Phase One has great views, but doesn't get the morning sun. Phase Three (west side), has great views and also gets the morning sun and is great in January, February and March if you like having your coffee on the balcony. Phase Three tends to rent for more, as these Villas were more expensive and newer.

9. Renting a car in Cabo is expensive, unless you're willing to settle for a compact with minimal insurance (ie, your credit card covers damage, but you still have to buy liability insurance from the rental car agency). $250/week is about the minimum you'll pay -- if you know what you're doing -- and that will buy a LOT of cab rides with a LOT less hassle.

10. VLE is a quiet place. Don't expect a party atmosphere. A lot of great families rent and own at VLE, so expect kids at the pool. If you want a party place, you can always walk next-door to Villa del Palmar and visit (it's like a land-locked cruise ship) or, just walk down the beach (west) and grab a cerveza at the Mango Deck, etc... then, be thankful you can enjoy the party AWAY from where you're sleeping!

11. All Villas have broadband internet in the master bedroom. If you rent a room without kitchen, you won't have internet (except if you can pick up the pool's wireless connection). Tip: check into Skype for calling back to the USA. Some owner villas include free VOIP calling to/from the USA.

12. VLE is a very high-end resort and one of the nicest in Cabo. Many families, ours included, return time-after-time and that says PLENTY about the quality of the resort and the staff.

  • Liked — Just a quality resort with great views and service
  • Disliked — Cost of food at the onsite restaurants and market. Way overpriced!

I booked our room online through orbitz.com and it was quite expensive. The hotel looked really nice, though, so we decided to splurge. Once again, I selected "king bed" and upon our arrival discovered that we had two full beds instead. We asked to be moved, but there were no other rooms available. I think since orbitz and like sites don't guarantee your room selections, the hotels really take advantage of that and just give you whatever's left.

We were basically renting a bedroom, that had a seperate entrance, from a time share owner who didn't need the room that weekend.

Our balcony was shared with the room next to us that, from the outside, appeared to be huge. There were furnishings, a grill and other items that were obviously personal all over the balcony, so we weren't sure.....were we allowed to use the grill that was on our side of the balcony? It was as if we were staying in a room at a strangers home and we didn't want to be in their way. It made things very uncomfortable for us.

We were in town for a friends wedding. They were suppose to call us with details of the wedding events. They left us messages on our room voicemail, but the light was not working on the phone, so we did not receive the messages until it was too late to attend the events. Very disappointing, room equipment should be maintained properly.

We were very disappointed with the room and did not feel that the staff was very supportive nor friendly. We will return to Cabo, but not to this hotel or any of it's partners.
