“The Best of The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Having traveled throughout the world on business for many years, some 20 years ago we made our first trip to the Baja and Cabo San Lucas, MX. At that time, Cabo was still somewhat a sleepy fishing village with few hotels and no luxury accommodations. WOW! How that has changed.

Since our first visit, this area has seen tremendous growth along both beaches and along what is now known as the Corridor from San Jose del Cabo to the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Now, many luxury hotels have been built and tourism has overtaken fishing (excluding The Bisby Tournament) as the draw for Cabo, along with the unparalleled beauty of the area. Given, green it is not.

During these many trips, we have stayed at many of the newly constructed luxury hotels and finally, some six years ago, decided to invest in a new property being developed by the owners of Playa Grande and Don Luis and family. Without doubt, with the exception of having my beautiful bride choose me as her husband, one of the best decisions that we have ever made. We chose Grand Solmar Lands End Resort and Spa.

We first saw the proposed site when it was simply sand and rocks. And then the construction began. What has been accomplished in those short over this short period of time is nothing short of remarkable. Now, in place of the sand and rocks we first saw, is, in our opinion, one of the finest vacation properties in all of Mexico, if not the world.

Since completion of the first phase(s) of the hotel, we have seen unbelievable growth, not only in building, but in management and staff. Both unequaled in this part of the world.

Beautifully appointed rooms, suites and penthouses. Unparalleled service, wonderful food and even more wonderful staff. Our list of personal friends there grows every visit. We travel to our Southern Most Home multiple times per year, for multiple weeks and once we return to our permanent home, cannot wait to get back to Cabo.

Our friends there are too many to fully list but I will single out several, in no particular order. Manny, Gaby, Erika, Bruce, Cindy, Jerry, Alana, Martha Garcia, Sheryl, Rodrigo, Ana Karen, Felix, Leo, Eban, Roman, Rubin, Manny, Anna (sales), Jason, Pete, Roger and many, many more. Exceptional people who perform exceptional service..

We were in Cabo days after the hurricane and could not believe the devastation of the area. In the three weeks we were there, the recovery had begun and the progress that was being made was overwhelming. Our greatest admiration goes to the people and their upbeat attitudes. Nothing short of unbelievable.

As the final stages of recovery, pool repair and completion of the Main Hall is coming to a close, there is going to be construction noise. Some reviewers have been very disappointed in their stays due to the noise. Fact of life folks, progress is not always pretty or silent. Usually just the opposite.

As these wonderful people, and this wonderful resort continues to return to normalcy and even greater beauty, please work with them to further establish Grand Solmar as The Best of The Best. You will not regret it as you will be able to view and, most importantly, utilize the slight inconvenience of construction noise.

The Grand Solmar Land's End is a gorgeous destination if you want to loll in the infinity pool, gazing out over the beach to a multi-colored Pacific. Light teal waters merge with mid-ocean blues against deep tan rocks and Carolina blue skies. After one week of such "inactivity," we were totally refreshed and happy.

From the pool, we saw sea lions basking in the surf, whales breaching, manta rays leaping out of the water in groups, and loads of birds.

Accompanying this physical beauty, was a staff that could not have been nicer. It would appear that the Grand Solmar's employees are hired based on natural, vibrant smiles!

(Oh, by the way, the food at this resort was very good, too!)

Currently, we are in the process of planning a return trip next winter.

We had a food tasting event at La Roca one of the restaurants at Grand Solmar where we stayed. It was phenomenal. We tasted all kinds of goodies served with the appropriate wine. What a fun and different way to eat. One of our servers was Salvador and he did an excellent job serving and explaining everything including lots of questions. All the staff was great and such a young chef, but Salvador went above and beyond.

Room Tip: Every room has an ocean view.

This property is truly world class. The resort is stunning...all areas (rooms, restaurants, spa, gym, etc...) are 5 star. The location is phenomenal. The service is first rate.

This is NOT a swimming beach...while beautiful, the break is very rough and dangerous, so if you plan to swim in the ocean, this is NOT the place to do it.

The resort dining is great and reasonably priced. Many other guests who were staying at least 3 nights opted to purchase a $100 per person/per day wristband that entitled you to all food and beverages included...which if you're prone to imbibe poolside all day and enjoy the fantastic lobster and stead in the hotel's restaurant, you'd be smart to consider.

The resort is perfectly situated near town ($8 cab ride) and about 45 minutes from the airport (SJD).

The only downside is that there is a tremendous amount of construction. They are re-building at least two of the pools and THOSE look to be nearly complete (maybe by June 2015 on Mexican time?) but also there is ongoing new construction. This means jack-hammering. 6 days a week, from 8:30a-6:00p. And it is LOUD. The waves and water features numb you to it a bit, but it is pretty bad. If I had paid $400+ per night I would have been very upset. (We were on 7th floor of building 4 in a 1 bedroom Master Suite, and while it was not too noisy in the master bedroom, it would have been VERY loud for anyone trying to sleep in on the main living room using the murphy bed)

I read a terrible review GS by ErwinandKaye. We were at GS just over a week ago and I don't know what this reviewer is talking about. . I think this is a beautiful resort and we are timeshare owners and have come here since the 1st year it opened. The food and beverages are exceptional as is the service. The pressure to buy a timeshare is minimal compared to how Cabo was 10 yrs ago. We told the concierge we weren't interested and that was it.

We have groceries delivered to our room every year. I take a bag with snacks/water and beer to the pool and have never been bothered by staff. The pools were packed when I was there 2 weeks ago, so I'm glad the chaises couldn't be held for hours by people not sitting at the pool. I'm also thankful that outside music isn't allowed. There is a lot of construction noise with the rebuilding of the pools and I'd prefer to hear the construction noise over the loud noise of another guest. I use earbuds to listen to my music. I'm glad folks like this don't want to return. I would find these guests obnoxious and prefer they won't be back.

We had an amazing time at Grand Solmar. There are problems with construction noise, but the property is beautiful on the ocean. We feel like we are going to a second home when we come to Grand Solmar. Every year we are greeted by Manny and Sammy at the arrival area. This year we took a mixology course from Yuniva. She was great and so much fun. We competed for the best mixed cocktail.

When we return next April we expect another outstanding visit. I appreciate all of the hard work it took for GS to clean the resort up after Odile and re-open. I'm sure when all of the construction is complete GS will be even more spectacular.

Gracias Grand Solmar and see you in 2015

I brought beverages to the pool and snacks and didn't have any problem

We would like to thank you fro your wonderful review and great support to all the staff members of our resort.

Sometimes it is difficult for some guest to understand that each resort has their own rules. As you mention, we never disturb anyone vacation, When there is a situation, we immediatly contact our guest and offer them the best solution possible. We know you are on vacations, But we also need to look not just for one but for all the other guest. Sometimes it is difficult, but i am sure, a lot of people will find this review very helful, as you can share what our service is about, and that we always look to surpass your expectations.

Sammy, MAnny and Yuniva will be specially delighted to know that you have a fantastic time, and that they were part of this. We thank you for understanding the situation of the noise that we have in some áreas of the resort, as we continue to finish our new lobby and rebuilding 3 of our pools.

Our family of four, which includes our two kids of elementary school age, enjoyed our stay at the Grand Solmar. It's a beatifully designed hotel with attention to detail and a view of the ocean at almost every turn. The staff, from housekeeping to concierge to poolside service, was extremely courteous and eager to please.

Three of the six pools were open and although the construction that was ongoing was a bit of an eye sore (and sometimes an 'ear-sore'), the staff did a pretty good job at trying to minimize the disruption. There was one day when we lost hot water (I think because of the work with repairing the other pools?); we discovered this once we got back from spending the afternoon in the pool and the water wasn't restored until the following morning. The staff offered us much apologies as well as free breakfast at their restaurant La Roca.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much here and would highly recommend it - but wait until all the construction/repairs are finished!

Room Tip: We were in building 6, on the 7th floor. We had a great view of the ocean and central view of the re...
