I am so glad that I checked out many websites, including TripAdvisor before booking a hotel in Cabo. My boyfriend and I stayed at The Bungalows for 9 nights on our first romantic vacation together and we both agree that we will never stay anywhere else when we come back to Cabo. Erik, Junior, Estella and the rest of the staff made our stay relaxing and memorable. The breakfasts are INCREDIBLE and the rooms are spacious and charming. We were at The Bungalows when hurricane John hit and as a result got the opportunity to stay in several different rooms. We started in a delux bungalow - hammock, patio, kitchen, extra room perfect for reading a book - then moved to standard suite (to avoid problems that could have resulted from the hurricane winds) - which was smaller, but still had a kitchen and sitting area separate from the bedroom - finally we moved to the Honeymoon Suite - which has a partial ocean view, large deck with fountain, large kitchen area, lounge chairs, king size bed, and my favorite feature a plush robe. The staff knows the area and has great recommendations on where to go and will even accompany you on an outing if time permits. We had the pleasure of hanging out at the beach and getting tacos with Erik and had a fun day sightseeing and surfing with Junior. All of the good reviews on TripAdvisor for The Bungalows are well deserved - ABSOLUTELY A 5-STAR EXPERIENCE!!!

  • Liked — Staff, breakfasts, room decorations/furnishings, proximity to downtown Cabo.
  • Disliked — Only one room with an ocean view.
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you need anything don't be afraid to ask - the staff really is like family and will accommodate most any request big or small.

If you are fortunate enough to spend a night in the Bungalows, you will find that everything that fellow travelers have written about the impressive staff and the charming home-away-from-home is all true. The atmosphere was so inviting--from the spectacular landscaping to the quaint rooms. The Bungalows is the place to go to escape from the busy city and relax by the pool or in one of the exceptionally comfortable hammocks. The moment we were greeted at the door by Eric, I knew we made the right decision to spend our vacation at the Bungalows. The courteous staff members were always available to answer questions, offer suggestions, and do whatever they could to make sure we were enjoying our stay. You can tell that Eric and Estelle genuinely like working at the Bungalows and want you to feel like you are a part of the family. And in that regard, Eric and Estelle succeeded because the stay at the Bungalows exceeded my expectations. I miss them already!

  • Liked — the friendly staff
  • Disliked — that I couldn't take the hammock home with me
  • Tips/Secrets: — don't miss this place!

We had never been to Cabo and were looking for a relaxing place to get away without the kids for a few days, to recreate some romance and just enjoy one another. I read many of the reviews on this site and decided that The Bungalows would be our best choice. After five wonderful days there we both feel that it was the best place possible for us in Cabo.

Cabo can be many different types of experiences depending on what you are looking for. If you want the resort and spa experience with private beaches on a property outside of town, where you live in your seperate world, then book the Westin or some other resort facility. But if you want an intimate experience in Cabo San Lucas where you are living in the city itself and can walk into or out of the downtown area in a few minutes and stay in an actual neighborhood just a short and very refreshing walk away from any of the best spots in town, stay at The Bungalows.

We were there the hottest time of the year and we absolutely loved the walks in and out of town. It is, as many have pointed out, downhill going in and uphill coming back but if you are in any kind of reasonable health the walk is easy and invigorating. The neighborhood is very nice and while we did notice loud music from a neighbor having a party one night it was not a problem at all and our room was closer to it than any other on the property.

The experience is quite wonderful at the Bungalows from the time you arrive. It is a very relaxing environment. Estella and her two sons, Junior and Eric could not be more accomodating in any way. Their helpful and warm style of managing the property is a big part of the experience. They are never in the way but are always immediately available and helpful in any aspect of your stay. We ended up being a bag short early on the morning we were departing and Estella gave us several options as to how to resolve it, including sending Eric with us to a local, members only, equivalent of Sams Club where we used his membership to get a bag quickly and inexpensively. It was like that with any issue and always with warmth and only the most positive response all the time.

The property is not over stated but very warm, clean and appealing. Beginning with the wonderful salt water pool that occupies the center of the property everything was just right for us. We had privacy in the Honeymoon Suite and wonderful conversations with other guests when we wanted them either at the pool ar on the veranda for breakfast (and the breakfasts are wonderful as others have reported). We picked movies for the evenings in our room and took advantage of great recommendations for dinner and all kinds of activities in town. Estella set up a fishing trip for us that was very enjoyable, productive(six yellow fin tuna) and gastronomically pleasing (we took the fish to a great Japanese restaurant where it was prepared for us in various courses a couple of hours after we dropped it off).

Cabo was wonderful and we really felt that our experience was intimate. I am sure that my wife's fluency in Spanish gave us a step up on some parts of the experience but I honestly feel that Cabo could be experienced beautifully from The Bungalows by anyone no matter what their language skills partly because Esella and her sons will make sure you are having a great experience and also because the city of Cabo San Lucas is very well suited to the large number of American visitors who go there.

Would I go back? Absolutely!!! We are planning on taking our children there soon and that will be fine... but for the two of us it will be a place where we hope to retreat as a couple many more times because the stay was so wonderful and romantic in every way.

My wife and I were recently married and checked trip advisor for reviews on where to stay for our honeymoon. I stumbled upon the Bungalows and read the reviews just like you are reading this one now...

This place is one of the best kept secrets in Cabo... Eric, Junior, and his Mom Stella were the most down to earth decent people a vacationer, or otherwise, could ever come across. They really care, and whenever we had a request or a question about saving money or what activity we should check out, they never steered us wrong..

What a bed and breakfest! I mean I woke up early just to eat! It was delicious and so natural, which Eric woke up really early to serve us with a smile. We love this guy and beleive me you will too...

I'm not going to say anymore other than, if you stay at this hotel and don't feel the love, then I'm sorry to say that it's not the hotel, there is something really wrong with you and you need to get some professional help!

ERIC, JUNIOR, AND STELLA THANK YOU, WE COULD NOT HAVE CREATED A MORE BEAUTIFUL MEMORY OF OUR HONEYMOON WITHOUT YOU AND YOUR HOTEL!

LOTS OF LOVE,

MARCOS AND JANNETTE

Enjoy my pictures...

  • Liked — Personal attention and down to earth atmosphere (decency), very honest and homey
  • Disliked — You need to be in somewhat shape because it is on a large hill and you will walk it quite a few times...
  • Tips/Secrets: — Lovers beach is awesome , rent a jet ski if you can, and ask Eric where the nice places to dine are...

Rooms: We stayed for a week in a patio bungalow, which was perfect for a couple. The other 2 bedroom bungalow suite would be ideal for a small family or a dual couple type of setup. A main benefit of one of these rooms as opposed to one of the rooms in the main building is that they face the rear of the complex, which means less street noise. The property itself faces a main road and has a decent amount of traffic pass by in the day and early evening.

Property: The breakfasts were great, if you didn't like the item for the day, they would gladly substitute it for something else. Eric, Junior and Estella were a great wealth of knowledge and information, they were available to suggest and/or book anything that you could possibly want to do in Cabo. The pool was also fantastic. Its a heated salt water/chlorinated water pool with plenty of shade in the mornings and late afternoons. Finally, the neighborhood around the hotel is very safe if that is any consideration.

Transportation/Scene: Please do yourself a favor and rent a car. The best things that we found were away from the main tourist area. We enjoyed a day trip up to Todos Santos a lot, and some of the best restaurants are in the resorts along the corridor. If you're looking for the best beach, head up to Cerritos Beach, right near km 74 on the drive up to Todos Santos. It is a sand beach, for one, and it has good waves for surfing and boogie-boarding, and the middle of the beach is decent for swimming (the tides are indeed very strong, though). Finally, while the walk to town is short and defintely possible, it is also about 100 degrees in the middle of the day and the A/C certainly helps a lot. You would probably spend just as much money on cabs and transportation as you would just renting the car.

One note of caution - there is no shortage of street vendors in all areas that tourists go in San Lucas proper. This includes while getting drinks at the bar, sitting at the beach and even while eating dinner. If you want to avoid this, skip anything along the main marina corridor and the main beach area. It doesn't sound like it should be that annoying but after the 20th person that you say no to in an hour, it starts being a bit of a drag..
