This is my second trip to Los Cabos. My first trip I stayed with my wife at Las Ventanas which was a wonderful luxury hotel, but at almost $1000 per night U.S. dollars after all fees (not including the other $500 a day we spent on dining and spa activities), that was more money than I would want to spend again. This trip was one with family and friends and I was in charge to put together an AFFORDABLE trip, so Las Ventanas was out of the running. I chose The Bungalows Hotel based on the reviews here in Tripadvisor. I must admit, with all of the incredible reviews of the hotel, I had very high expectations. On the other hand, there was four of us in a bungalow and we paid less than $45 each including breakfast, so I did not have outrageous expectations. As with anything I look at relative value, and The Bungalows Hotel was a real bargain.
The Bungalows is not a luxury hotel, nor would I want it to be. It is a small tropical inn that reminds me of what Melrose Place would have looked like in a tropical setting. The service was at least as good if not better than the best hotels I have ever stayed anywhere at ANY price.
The rooms looked like they were out of a Pottery Barn Catalog and were meticulously clean. There was all of those neat little amenities that you find at high-end bed and breakfasts. I loved the open air spa where I was treated to a 20 minute complementary massage and I followed up a couple days later for a full hour message. I can't remember a massage that good. I really loved the saline pool. I was told that it was a new addition to the hotel and it really leaves your body feeling smooth and refreshed.
I really liked the fact that we were not nickled and dimed for everything. The large movie collection, buttered popcorn were all free. I asked if I could buy a cup of coffee in the early evening and Erik ran in to make us a fresh pot which he served to us, free of charge. During our stay, French Presses with fresh ground coffee were added to our room. On check in, our group received this incredibly refreshing lemon-cucumber water. We started each day with an incredible breakfast which was different each day. My vote for best breakfast was the mango-banana pecan pancakes!
My only minor complaint is that they don't serve dinner (too bad!) but Erik helped us with many good places to eat. Try the Sand Bar on the beach - Great food, service, and prices with a bonfire at night to boot.
The bottom line, it was clear to me that the main goal of the staff was to make sure that I had the best possible experience during my stay in Cabo. Nothing seemed forced, just genuinely good people with your best interest in mind. I knew I was going to like my stay from the beginning when one of the staff took my bags to the room and I offered the customary tip. He graciously told me that tips were not necessary and he was happy to be of assistance. That was another first in my travels! Needless to say, I left nice tips for the staff upon checkout.
If value is important to you and you want to stay at an unpretentious place where your needs are truly taken care of, this is the place. Thanks Tripadvisor and thanks to all the people at The Bungalows, we will be back for sure.
