“This Place Calms my Soul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2011

We have just returned from our second trip to the Sirena Del Mar. I can barely put into words the incredible experience we had at this little piece of paradise. We stayed there exactly 1 year ago when it was just opening. Much to our surprise the staff has not changed and the amenities have only improved.

The first improvement – transportation to the resort from the airport. About 10 days before we were scheduled to arrive, the Welk resort contacted me to find out if we would like to arrange transportation. For $18/person each way we were picked up and transported to and from the airport in a luxury SUV. From the moment the plane touched down it was approximately 45 minutes before we were at the resort.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the friendly staff. Last year my daughter, (then 2 years old) was given a fish in a bowl to take care of. As we arrived this year, they quickly presented her with a fish in a bowl and explained that they had been waiting for her to return so she could take care of him again. It was little details like this one that were consistent from the beginning to the end of our trip.

We booked a Premier Ocean Front 1 Bedroom Villa. We were on the second floor this year. The room was spotless. One day I watched a staff member spend an hour just cleaning the balcony, in-between guests. They really take pride in keeping this place looking nice. Every morning they would hose off the patios and wipe down the pool chairs. It would be nice to get clean towels a little more frequently than once a week but we just threw a load in our washing machine every other day as we washed other stuff. I will say the kitchen is a bit short on supplies. A baking sheet, kitchen towel and a sharp knife would have been a huge help.

We caught a cab to Walmart the next day to stock up on groceries. They have posted a sign at the entrance to let people know approximately what cab rates should be to various locations. This is a HUGE help because last year the cab rates seemed very inconsistent.

Another improvement was the extended hours at the restaurant on the weekend AND the introduction of Fiesta night on Friday night. We had a blast at the fiesta party and Manny and the servers worked hard to get the people to play along with the party games. I understand that once the new addition is built on the hotel there will be an expansion to the restaurant that will be open more often.

You will not find a better group of staff anywhere . These guys work long hours and always have a smile on their face. Manny is the activities coordinator and he doesn’t stop trying to make sure that everyone, young and old is having the best possible time. From water aerobics to snorkeling to salsa dance to ping-pong to building sandcastles with the kids he encourages everyone have fun. Caesar oversees the food and beverage and has an unbelievable attention to detail. While we were there we celebrated my birthday. My husband had a brief conversation with Caesar about putting together a special lunch for me. Unbeknownst to me, upon the arrival for lunch, we were put at a special table, overlooking the ocean, given a selection from the weekend dinner menu and they baked a special birthday cake complete with diamond ring (thanks to my husband) hidden in the intricately carved strawberry. This whole presentation made for a very memorable birthday.

There were some other reviews that mentioned feeling pressure to do the time-share presentation. We were asked if we wanted to attend and offered free tours and free tickets to the fiesta night but we politely declined and there was no more issue. If I were interested in purchasing a time share, I would certainly not hesitate to look at the Sirena del Mar.

Other tips: Remember your binoculars so you can get a better look at the whales coasting past your balcony every day. Next year, I might bring my own coffee as the selection at Wal-Mart was not great and very expensive. We were advised at the bank to bring Peso’s instead of US dollars but everyone seemed to still want US dollars, especially the cab drivers. The buses into down are a cheap form of transportation and a great way to go on a little adventure. We caught the bus into San Jose one day just for fun. We talked to various people who said renting a car is very expensive and seemed to have a lot of hidden fees. If you are taking cabs, remember to negotiate the cost before you set off.

I could continue to go on about how wonderful our experience was but I will end by saying that I am available to answer questions through email. candicestauffer@yahoo.ca

My spouse and I arrived Dec. 31/10 and stayed four nights - a quick trip to escape the cold, white north. It met and exceeded our expectations. The staff are service oriented in the extreme. Our 1 br. suite faced south toward the ocean as they all do. The bedroom and balcony are the view spaces - we slept with the balcony door open, so fell asleep and awoke to the sound of the mild crashing of the surf.

Three excellent restaurants are walking distance (30 minutes or less) on quiet (albeit dark) streets. The resort restaurant is also excellent, but relatively expensive. Be sure to ask the concierge for a 'Cabo Fun Card' which gives you 15% off everything you buy at the resort and 10% off at many of the restaurants in and around Cabo.

You may have to sit through a 90 minute one-on-one timeshare presentation to get the card, but there is no pressure to buy - just gentle persuasion. In addition to the Cabo card we also got a 24 hour car rental and a three-hour kayaking/snorkeling trip in return for listening to their pitch - plus you get a continental breakfast.

The resort is a ways out of Cabo, but you can take a $10 taxi ride each way, or walk up the road to the highway (about 5 - 10 minutes) and take a bus into town.

Be sure to contact the concierge at the resort to arrange for airport transfer or you are likely to overpay because the resort is not on the shuttle service.

All in all we were very happy with our brief stay at this resort.

we booked this hotel from our timeshare and took a chance because it opened only a year ago and we weren't sure if we would prefer to be closer to downtown. the hotel is intimate and quaint, with only 36 rooms currently completed, but the room was spacious and beautiful, you cannot beat the view (all rooms have an ocean view). we booked a one bdrm villa, every morning we sat on our deck drinking coffee and watched the whales. with only 36 rms, there weren't many guests on property, which we loved. we could walk down to the pool at any hour of the afternoon and have our own little area to lay out. everyone at the front desk and concierge were a delight to work with. again, with such few occupants, they accommodated our every request. the only negative comment - their restaurant is not yet completed (spring 2011) so the current kitchen only serves mid-week until 5pm, thurs-sun through dinner. we enjoy a lobby bar/restaurant for those nights when you just want to stay on property, but we just adjusted our schedule around that. great gym! very clean property - maintenance was constantly cleaning the common areas. a big plus - free wi-fi in room, as well as two computers in the lobby available 24/7. and manny, the resident activity manager, was amazing. he conducting everything from spanish classes to latin dancing, water aerobics, ping pong tournaments, snorkeling groups, even bartending lessons! and we watched him with guests' children and you'd think they were his own. if you like hotels that are set apart from the busy area, this is a great choice. a $15 taxi ride into town (a second negative), but were told they will have a shuttle in the next month or so.

Sirena del mar was amazing! The view from the resort is breathtaking and we loved the fact that there was only about 20 people there and we were away from the craziness of downtown. It's only about a 4 mike drive into town. Our room was wonderful especially since we were upgraded. The staff and service was great. My favorite part was laying out in the morning watching whales in the water right in front of the resort. We will definetly be returning!

I traveled to the Sirena Del Mar over Christmas with my husband and two children. Having never been to Cabo before, wasn't sure what to expect. What we discovered was a petite resort with some of the best staff I have ever encountered. With 20+ years of travel experience planning high end incentives for corporations, I have seen my share of fine and fabulous. This however was a step above. Although everyone was so friendly and nice, a few names stood out. Manny the activity director is amazing. It's rare that you find a personality that truly connects with all age groups - but he did so with ease. Antonio at the front desk had an infectious smile and Ramiro and Carlos at the pool bar / restaurant were a daily reminder of why this resort has such high marks.

The room product was lovely and with kids - the kitchen was a welcomed inclusion. The view was nothing short of spectacular. We were on the bottom floor with waves crashing just below us. To the right of the resort a pratically private beach was the kids playground - complete with tidepools and snorkeling.

Couple this with three levels of pool, a hot tub with sweeping views of the pacific, and a week filled with resort activities to include bartending class and salsa dancing .. well it was perfect.

My family and I stayed at the Sirena del Mar resort over Christmas. The resort was at full capacity, yet we never had to wait in any lines or reserve beach chairs. The staff was incredible (especially the activities director, Manny), and were constantly cleaning the entire resort. From the glass railings to the pool water, I never saw a speck of dirt.
We found out about the Sirena del Mar through Trip Advisor. People recommended that we should get a rental car, but with the $800 fee, I think that just using taxis would have been cheaper. Also, some people said that things like Walmart and Costco were within walking distance. True, I could have walked it, but they are across a highway, and everyone in Mexico speeds. 80 kilometers an hour means 110km/hr to those drivers, so even driving made me a little nervous. And just so you know, an "E" with a red circle and line through it means "No Parking", not "No Entrance".
Anyway, the Sirena del Mar was a fabulous resort that was unlike any vacation I have ever been on. Whale watching and renting Jet Skis are a must! Our vacation was amazing, and we look forward to going back next year!

We are leaving tomorrow after spending an incredible week at Sirena Del Mar. I read all the other reviews before booking this trip and thought it can't be as wonderful as EVERYONE has said, well it was and more! The view is breathtaking and the rooms are very well appointed and comfortable. There aren't enough words to describe the staff. Everyone is friendly and willing to help in anyway. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. We did go into downtown Cabo for dinner most nights, but that was more of a spring break atmosphere. Restaurants were wonderful, especially our favorite one , The Office. The whale watching boat ride and the deep sea fishing was also a lot of fun. We hope to be back again very soon!
