“Great Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Pros: I got engaged here May 2013.... the backdrop of the Arch creates a very romantic atmosphere and it was wonderful :). The hotel is truly stunning, the service and food are wonderful and the rooms are beautiful and spacious.. and at least when I went, it was pretty affordable.

Cons: The salesmen for the timeshares are relentless. This was our first time at one of these types of things and we almost dove in. Don't do it. You don't need it and it creates a whole hell of a lot of problems for you from what I've heard.

Sirena del Mar is on the Sea of Cortez. There is a small, accessible beach beach area that is just beautiful from every room. The view from every room is beautiful. Service is excellent. The pools and food is excellent. The food is expensive. The average full breakfast is from $25 to $30 dollars. Dinners are more.

Room Tip: As far as know all rooms have a great view. We had a one BR on the 3rd floor in building 3. All ha...

The Welk Resort in Cabo San Lucas is a beautiful facility, with huge lovely accommodations, great views, and a wonderful large infinity pool. The grounds and facilities are all extremely clean. It is a terrific place for a family or romantic get away….if you are the kind of traveler that likes apartment style living without the services of a 4 or 5 star hotel.

The staff at The Welk are all very accommodating (aside from Mario...as noted below). Manny is great at the pool….the Bellmen remember your names….and the restaurant waiters are all very professional. Unlike previous reviews, we found the restaurant at dinner to be a much better option than a $40 r/t to town. Food was very good and prices were what you would expect at a nice resort. A trip to Wal Mart to buy all of your breakfast and lunch items, especially water and liquor, is more than advised.

If I were rating the hotel just on the grounds, rooms and views, it would get 5-stars. BUT, in reality it is the equivalent of a 3-star facility. Here are my issues:

To have daily maid service, you must per-pay an additional $12 per day. This is absurd for a supposed high end resort and a complete turnoff.

The rooms have huge lovely kitchens, void of food or food like products. You get ‘coffee service” for your 1st day only. You cannot even buy coffee products for the additional days you are there. You have to go to the store in town and buy coffee, creamers, etc.
Ridiculous!!! At least sell the coffee materials you’d get free in a Red Roof Inn.

Check out time is 10:00am. Period. I contacted Mario the hotel manager and begged him
for an additional 2-hours since our ride to the airport was coming at 12:30. He was willing to ‘compromise’ with me and let me stay until 11:00….but if I stayed past that he would charge me $100 plus $50/hr. Check in time is not until 4:00, however….and we were kept waiting when we arrived until exactly 4:00.

The hotel, as beautiful as it is, is in the middle of nowhere. Walking to the main road is about a mile….uphill….and on a dark dirt road. Taxi’s to or from town are just a 10-minute ride but cost $20 each way. $40 everytime you go into the city.

No room service after 9:00pm is just too early a cutoff for a beach resort.

Would I go back to The Welk? Because of the penny-pinching (room cleaning fee….no coffee….early check out…..taxi fees) the answer is a definite “no”. This is too bad, especially considering the fact that we truly had a wonderful and uneventful week at the resort. So close to perfection….but so far away as well.

This is a wonderful small resort with excellent service, beautiful surroundings and a great view of the famous Arch. The concierge - Jazzie was the most helpful and accommodating ever. She contacted me via email regarding shuttle service from the airport and also called me 2 or 3 times before our trip to arrange and make suggestions for the activities that our family wanted to do while in Cabo. She tried to meet all our requests when possible. Francisco the Bellman was also super nice and friendly! The waiters and receptionist were all helpful. You are welcomed with cold water or a cold cerveza as you enter the lobby for check-in. All the rooms had spectacular view of the ocean and our room even had a view of the famous Cabo Arch. We slept with our doors to the patio open so we can hear the crashing waves. It was so serene with the full moon reflecting on the ocean. The little beach was nice and Manny, the activity director takes guests to go snorkeling there in the morning. The sand was not as fine but if you just want to sunbathe and do a little swimming or snorkeling or just hanging out on uncrowded beach, - it was great. I saw a beautiful spotted black and white puffer fish in the little tide pools one morning. The sunrise is also spectacular with all the colors just like sunset.
We stayed in a smaller room with a great view of the Arch and the pools below. The room had a small kitchen and a dryer and washer. It's always nice to go home with clean clothes. It was also nice to make our own breakfast and dinners as it does gets costly eating out all the time. The taco Tuesday at the resort was yummy and fun! The Mexican buffet on Friday was fun but a little pricey even if it's all you can eat and drink.
Our only issue is the taxi cab to downtown Cabo was expensive - $18 to $20 USD each way. A resort shuttle that would charge less for the guests would be nice. There is a bus that costs $1 but you have to walk uphill to get to the highway for the bus and at night the road to the resort is dark and narrow.
Over all it was a wonderful experience staying at this resort. It was our first time in Cabo and would stay at Sirena del Mar again if we go back.

This was our first trip to Cabo and we chose Sirena Del Mar specifically because of the Trip Advisor recommendations. This resort definitely lived up to the reviews (BTW - we are not owners).

The location is perfect - from what we can see, every room had amazing ocean views. 10 minutes from downtown and situated right on the coast with a semi-private beach that we snorkeled in daily. The pools area was not overcrowded like you hear in reviews of other resorts, so no issues getting a prime lounge spot overlooking the ocean or pool.

The staff here is AMAZING! By the end of the trip, you'll be on a first name basis with Manny (the activities director) and the rest of the team. Daily activities (from Tequila tasting to water aerobics) made it easy to stay busy on the resort. The staff also was very helpful in booking our offsite zip lining and swimming with the dolphin outings.

While I've read reviews about the construction noise, it was not an issue during our trip at all.

We will definitely be recommending Sirena Del Mar to friends and returning in the future!

We can't say enough about this hotel - super friendly staff, amazing room w/ perfect view of El Arco and full kitchen with every comfort of home. We loved the semi-private beach that never had more than 10 people on it. The sound of the crashing waves each night on the rocks below was so peaceful. And what a steal! Versus the prices people were paying in the commercial areas of San Lucas and San Jose, this place was a 5 star value. Gabriel and Manny were super helpful, and a super cheap $1 USD bus at the top of the hill made it easy to get around. Perfect trip!

Room Tip: Take the bus - $1 USD / person each way to San Lucas and $3 USD / person to San Jose. Don't was...

I really loved this hotel, and I tend to visit Mexican beaches often. Wide open rooms with great views of the ocean and the hotel grounds which are beautiful. Two things I didn't like; the private beach is wonderful but the sand is really rough. If you want to bathe, go to the arc to visit the private beaches over there. Also, I thought it's idiotic you have to pay extra to get your rooms clean. Seriously people, if you pay over $250 USD a night, you want your room to be cleaned.

Room Tip: left tower has a perfect view of the arc, You have to be able to see it if you are in Cabos San Luca...
