“Wonderful 40th birthday celebration at Welk/SDM”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We booked Welk/SDM based on the reviews we read on TA. Upon staying at the resort, we found the reviews to be very accurate. We liked that the service was good and very helpful in a laid back way. They were not in your face like other places. Fedra, the concierge, was very pleasant and arranged a shuttle service to and from the airport. They even tell you how to avoid the time share sharks when you exit the International Terminal. Fedra also asked if we might be interested in listening to a presentation about their timeshare. We declined since we were not staying long and had lots to do. She was super chill about it and didn't pressure us.

While the overall service was great, the hotel is also really good for people who are a tad more self sufficient. They don't clean your room every day and I prefer it that way. I've always thought it was wasteful to get clean towels in your room every day. In addition, you can cook in your room or on the outside grille. As recommended by reviewers, we stocked up on groceries, at Walmart, the first day. We got these gorgeous steaks for $8. They were so juicy and flavorful. My husband grilled them as we looked out onto the sunset.

One day when we went into town, my husband was planning to take out some cash at an ATM. We took a cab in, which cost the pre-set amount of $15, plus tip. When we came across an ATM my husband discovered that he accidentally brought his credit card, not his ATM card. This meant we only had a couple of dollars on us, not enough to take a cab back. I read how a good number of people had taken the local bus. So we went to find where to take it. It turned out to be so easy! And cheap, at $1 per person. I wish we had taken it when we came into town. The only caveat is that there is a moderate walk back from the main road to the resort, with a bit of a hill. As such, I would recommend taking a cab into town (up hill) and then the bus back to the resort (down hill).

One of the mornings we were at the resort, we went snorkeling down at the private beach. We were worried about the stairs going down because of some of the reviews. It actually turned out to be fine, not a problem at all. There was a small, but lovely beach. The snorkeling was fantastic. Super clear water. We saw a million fish.

On another day, we went Stand-up Paddle-Boarding at Medano beach. If you are interested in water activities, keep in mind that it gets really busy after 10am especially with jet ski-ers and water taxis. I didn't get to enjoy the last half hour of my rental because the jet skies kept buzzing by. It was impossible to stay standing. Next time we'll go at 8am or 9am.

Lastly, one of the criteria for booking a resort in Cabo was an infinity pool. Welk/SDM had two. The main one rocked! You could hang over the edge and stare at the Arch for hours. The swim up bar was pretty cool too.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable trip and would recommend Welk/SDM to anyone.

We just returned from a week long stay at the Sirena Del Mar. My husband and I brought our 6 year old daughter--this is the family's second trip to Cabo and first stay at Sirena Del Mar. Our room was well appointed and had everything we needed to eat in for breakfast and an occasional lunch. Every room at this hotel has a ocean view (however they are building another building behind Bldg. 1 that will be "garden view") and the views are breathtaking. Not to mention how wonderful it is to fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore below.

The people were friendly and accomodating. Fransico at the Bell Desk is simply wonderful. Every time I saw him he greeted me warmly by name and even indulged my broken Spanish! Manny always had a smile on his face and got people happily involved in activities around the pool. Barbara contacted me ahead of time to arrange transport from the airport-- which is great because they only take people from the airport to the hotel and you aren't stopping 5 times at other hotels. Barbara answered a lot of questions and was very helpful.

The swim up pool bar is nice, and the music around the pool isn't too loud and is appropriate for all ages. The food from the pool bar was delicious--I highly recommend the fish tacos, followed by a close second are the shrimp tacos! Delicious, and served with homemade guacamole and pico de gallo. Stick with beer and margaritas-- mixed drinks are okay.

I recommend renting a car for a few days, as the hotel is a $15 USD cab ride away from the Marina. The hotel made accomodations for the car rental company to come to the hotel with the car and write up the contract on the spot. It was convenient and doesn't lock you into more days of a rental car than you need (we only needed the car 3 days.)

The "game room" the hotel boasts is far from it....only air hockey and a pool table....both of which not in the best condition. Nothing for a 6 year old to do. It rained a couple of the days and had the game room been better stocked we would have made use of it. It would have been great if the TV had a DVD (and family-oriented DVDs) and a sitting area for several people to sit and watch together. Maybe a table with markers or crayons....

Overall-- a fantastic location, friendly people and well appointed, clean rooms and grounds. We will most definitely come again!

To give you a little perspective, we brought 60 people with us for our destination wedding in Cabo. This was the largest wedding ever at The Welk and it went off without a hitch! We had everyone party at the Fiesta night on Friday and then an amazing buffet and open bar for the reception Saturday. We can't say enough about the Welk Resort staff and our wedding planners, Tammy and Jessica Wolff of Cabo Wedding Services. Having an apartment to stay in was such a comfort, too. This was the first time I ever came home and put away clean clothes because the reaort has washer and dryers in each room! Not to mention the amazing view from every single room. Add a private beach, awesome food, and activities all week with Resort director Manny and you have the perfect place for family amd friends to celebrate our wedding. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS...THE HIGHTOWERS

My wife and I visited Cabo for a week this past September, our third trip to the area. Our first two vacations were at a much larger resort, further up the corridor towards San Jose. The location of Welk Sirena del Mar was fantastic. Close enough to town where we could see El Arco from virtually anywhere on the property, but far enough away from town to where it was peaceful and quiet.
The property itself isn’t extremely large, which is nice as you don’t have a far walk to the pool or even the nearby beach. Also, since there are only two buildings, there never was a crowded feel to the resort.
Upon first arrival, we were warmly greeted and provided an overview of the property. The bell-hop/all-around goto guy, Francisco, was fantastic the entire trip. Fedra, the concierge, was very responsive via email before our arrival, and helped us to coordinate several dinners and activities. Our room, a one bedroom, was clean and just the right size for the two of us. Each room is equipped with a stove, microwave, and full size fridge plus all the cookware/plateware. There are even gas grills near the pool where you can grill your catch of the day! We ended up getting upgraded to a penthouse (thanks Mario!) for our final two nights. These units are state of the art, spacious, and ever so relaxing.
Each day (with the exception of Saturday), there are several activities coordinated by Manny. From water aerobics, to bingo, to putting with limes, there was always something to do for any age. Manny also runs a small snorkel gathering a couple days a week, off the nearby beach. There are many variety of fish that will swim right up to you and provide a nice, lazy snorkel in the morning.
The mix of guests was fairly diverse. There were retired couples, middle aged couples who left their children at home, and even younger families, all of whom mixed well together.
I would highly recommend staying at the Welk Sirena del Mar. I know that our next trip to Cabo we will be staying here again.

We went to this beautiful resort to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and had a perfect experience. The resort is beautiful, the staff are amazing and the location is a gem. Thank you to Francisco, Barbara, Manny, Mario, Edgar and all the staff for making us feel welcome and making our stay so comfortable.
I hadn't even left the airport and I was plotting our return to Serena Del Mar.

This was the best vacation ever. The Sirena Del Mar is absoluteley beautiful. The Staff are superb. Very clean, and their people cater to your every need. I read some reviews that said restaurant prices were high and the food wasn"t what was expexted. I found just the oposite, the prices were very reasoable, and the food and beverages were excellent. We were not hounded to attend any sales pitch, and this place is very classey in my book. The consierge, (Jazzy), wwas very helpful, so were the others but I remember Her name. The Front Office manager, Mario Vazquuez, was one of the people that greeted Us when We checked in, was very cordial, and always had time to say hello when we ran in to Him. And their activities Director Manny, is one of the most multi-tallented people We've ever met. The ocean view from every room is fantastic. We went to their fiesta, snorkeling, water earobics classes, salsa classes, and of course you'll love the swim-up bar. We will definately go back hopefully next summer.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view, so take your pick.
