I just spent 11 days at Los Milagros (March 23, 2006 - April 2, 2006) and it is such a wonderful spot. It was the ideal place for my husband and our nearly 10 year old son to stay. First - when you arrive, you walk through an immense set of attractive metal doors and enter into a picture perfect courtyard which has gorgeous bouganvilla growing all over the rafters. It is so peaceful with birds chirping in the trees and the soothing sounds of a beautiful fountain. During the day and early evening, the owner Sandra, who is fabulous (more about her later) plays wonderful relaxing music which can be heard in the coutyards.
It is a very small place, only 12 rooms with 2 good sized courtyards with comfortable chairs to loll around in. Great for reading books in the morning or afternoon. We often would have appetizers and afternoon cocktails (provided by us) there before going out to dinner. It is a very quiet and relaxing place.
We came down with a few other friends so we got to see a number of the rooms. They are all modest but pleasant with either 1 or 2 double beds. Some have a living area with a sleeper sofa, table and chairs, and a kitchenette with a small refrigerator and stove. The bathrooms are attractive in white stucco with wrought iron accessories and the showers are great. The rooms without kitchenettes are newer and are a little more attractive with interesting brick ceilings. The price for the rooms is an unbelievably low $75. Coming from New York CIty - this seems almost impossible.
But the specialness of this place, as many others have reported before me, is attributable to the owner Sandra. She is an amazing person who is so charming and funny and such a great resource. She told us where to snorkle, where/how to rent a catamaran for our group of 15 to go whalewatching. She told us about Buzzard's Bay - a remote beautiful beach with a great restaurant. She arranged for us to go ATVing including having a van come and pick us up. We also had massages done at the hotel which were amazing. Last but not least she recommended wonderful restaurants which were off the beaten track.
The hotel has a tiny, pretty pool, but in March the water is just a bit too cold, for the adults anyway. Instead on two of the days we went to a lovely hotel not far from Los Milagros on the Pacific side. We would have lunch there and use their pool and beach for the day.
I HIGHLY recommend this place. It is great for anyone - couples, families, or singles. We went with 3 other families, who had kids from ages 6 - 12, and 2 single men. We all had such fun. The kids would meet in the morning in the courtyard and keep busy while the grown-ups slept later. The location of the place is wonderful - right in the middle of town. You can get up and get great coffee or hot chocolates at the coffee shop down the street. Fabulous inexpensive breakfasts are around the corner. And the best smoothies are just up the street. Sandra knows where all these places are so she can give you directions. Everything is within walking distance. This place is a find and a steal!
