I stayed at the Siesta Suites for a full week in July. It was a spur-of-the-moment solo trip to do a little diving and catch a little sun. This was my 5th trip to Cabo in the past 8 years, and previously I've stayed at various hotels/resorts on Medano beach. I hated having to take a shuttle or a taxi into town and the Marina, so this time I decided to try and find something right in town. (The Marina was my second choice as it can be pretty noisy there at night.)
After stumbling across Siesta Suites in a web search, I came here and read the reviews. Well, my experience backs up the other positive comments here. Let's see: spotlessly clean, good-sized rooms, air conditioning that works, fully functional kitchenette, super friendly staff, within tripping distance of numerous great restaurants (including the one attached to the hotel), a 10-minute walk from a fair-sized supermarket, a 5-minute walk from the Marina. Yes, it's a longish walk or a short cab ride to Medano beach, but if shopping, diving, fishing or other non-beach activities are your thing, then being in the centre of town has its advantages.
Almost without exception the other hotel guests were friendly, and I found myself in daily conversations with people around the pool, on the balconies in front of the suites and in the "internet" room adjacent to the lobby.
This hotel will appeal more to a more seasoned traveler that appreciates that the "resort" experience can quite often be horrible: a small room in a garishly styled hotel crammed with surly guests who become "holiday alcoholics" and turn into stereotypical Ugly Americans when the all-you-can-eat buffet runs out of shrimp.
However, if you're the kind of person that's OK with being situated next door to a church that has noisy services every other day, would rather experience a different small restaurant every night, and enjoys a quiet room and a small pool where you can relax, read and write, you can't do much better than this hotel.
Even at double the rates they are currently charging, I'd stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. (NOTE TO HOTEL OWNERS: Please don't raise the rates; I'm sure I'm an anomaly in this regard <g>) The bottom line: If you're considering a trip to Cabo and want to get a little closer to the pulse of the city and the culture of Mexico, you don't mind saving a little money and actually WANT to explore further than the all-inclusive hotel bar and bland food troughs, this is a perfect place to call home.
