I read many reviews prior to my stay at ME Cabo and quite frankly, was a bit nervous about the noise level. I requested a room away from the nightclub and Stephanie, the Desk Clerk was very accommodating. As soon as the Bellman takes your bags, the Timeshare people converge upon you! We declined and they didn’t persist. They would probably be better served to give guests a day to recoup from the flight and taxi ride.
The property is nearly 20 years old and while the décor has been updated in a trendy fashion, it does show its age. Our room was clean, the TV and iPod station were in working order and the internet was relatively fast. The bathroom lighting was a bit drab but the shower was nice and the bath offered Aveda products. The beds are a bit hard in Mexico but the linens were of high quality and changed daily. While they are striving for a modern look, some color would have been nice. My husband likes to unpack and put his things away but there was really no place in which to do so. There is only a small closet and two baskets so we kept our clothing in our bags. I read in past reviews about people being mistakenly charged for mini bar items so we asked the staff to remove ours which they were happy to do.
The hotel grounds were very clean and well maintained. The pool closest to the beach was resurfaced and they started the other one during our visit. The jackhammers were a bit loud but they didn’t begin until late morning. I wouldn’t fault a hotel for repairs and updating.
On the note of service, it was fine but I wouldn’t say warm or above and beyond. On our first day, we ordered a bottle of water at the pool and it took over 30 minutes for an $8.00 bottle of water! Best to purchase it in the gift shop for $4.00 or better yet, there are small markets up the road. I ordered a drink at the swim up bar but the bees were terrible so I took it elsewhere. On our last day, I was sunning on one of the poolside beds for over a two hour period and not once did a waiter approach me! I guess I’d say the service is inconsistent. We ordered room service a couple of times and it was fast and pretty much standard hotel quality food. Delivery of coffee was very reasonable and nice to have it out on the balcony before starting the day. The breakfast buffet was fair and included a Bloody Mary or Mimosa. We had a drink in the Passion Club – the fire pit was nice and the waiter was friendly. I never found it to be loud from other parts of the hotel. They do pipe in techno type music at the pool but not what I’d call blasting or offensive. Some of which sounded like the Buddha Bar collection, Sade, that sort of thing.
We did see a bachelor party at the pool – just some wild guys having a good time. The partying wasn’t just young people but individuals of all ages. The ME website and their advertisements show young, fit, “beautiful” people but it was very diverse, no different than any other hotel in the world. A good mix I thought! The ME isn’t what I’d refer to as a high end resort by any stretch but it’s a clean, conveniently located hotel. We will likely return! I've stayed in the corridor area of Cabo and you have two choices - the $20 cheeseburger or the $20 Taxi. ME is in a phenomenal location - a 5 minute walk to town.
Tip: The Sand Bar is literally steps from the hotel (20 yards maybe). Ask for Victor, he’ll set you up with some awesome Chicken Nachos for $7.00. There is also a gal who gives a great massage for about $20! The Mango Deck, next door, has great breakfast for $4.00! Lorenzillo’s on the marina – DON’T BOTHER. Their signature 20 ounce lobster tail is a plate of small lobster pieces sitting atop an old lobster shell – to the tune of $70! There is much better lobster available at a fraction of the price! Taco Loco, right in front of Cabo Wabo has great Fajitas - $8.00 and enough for two!
