My wife & I booked a 3 day/2 night reservation in October at the Mar De Cortez to cut down on some of our travel costs. We already paid in full for one week to stay at the Melia San Lucas in which a family member arranged, but we wanted to make it a 10 day vacation. When we arrived from Seattle, my wife and I weren't feeling very well, we both caught colds on the airplane. We wanted to get to the Hotel & get some rest, we had been up since 3 a.m. & we were both very tired from our flight. The Hotel is downtown & only a block away from Sammy Hagar's bar, which we loved and were excited about. Our room which was on the balcony was very basic, which we had expected. We arrived late in the afternoon and unpacked. We attempted to take a nap, but it was impossible. We could hear every door shut that was below us & adjacent to us. You could hear hotel guests coming & going & the folks laying out by the pool. The mattress was rock solid & if we had back problems it might have been helpful. Directly behind us someone's car alarm went off & continued to go for about 45 minutes. We were there for maybe 2 1/2 hours and figured this wasn't for us. We went to the Melia and paid an arm & leg for 3 days, but money at this point was no object, put it on the credit card. The conclusion my wife and I came to was this... The Hotel staff were very nice & courteous. The Hotel even sent us a check for the 2nd night in which we didn't stay. If your going to party, this is the place to go. When we were both in our early twenties, we wouldn't have thought twice about staying here. But were a little bit older & we don't party like we use to. If your looking for peace and quiet & your wanting that sense of "getting away" I wouldn't suggest this Hotel.

Great room - suite for three, very clean, everybody at the hotel extremely helpful. The 2nd day our a/c unit in the room broke down, they had a new one installed in just a few hours. Perfect location, downtown near everything.

No doubt the best deal in town. Walk/crawl to Marlin and Wabo in 2 minutes. Always safe, clean and with any luck the power and water will be on the entire time. Fruit cart on the corner in mornings is great. Check out lobster place behind Squid Roe. Very good and cheap...like less than $10.

I have stayed at the Mar De Cortez five or six times. It's always clean and safe. It seems to be where all the fisherman and surfers stay. It's right in the center of town which makes a rental car unneccessary, you can walk to the beaqch and all the attractions in town...and cabs are super cheap if it turns out you need one. The pool is nice and the food in the restaurant is good. The rooms have the only things I really need on a beach vacation, AC, clean sheets and towels, and clean facilities. This place is family owned (safe!) and there are cameras in the hallways so they can keep an eye on the doors to the rooms. It is the best deal in town as far as room rates. I would highly recommend it for it's price and ammenities. I feel it's a much better deal than some of the all inclusive places!
