Let me separate my review into sections.
We stayed at the Tesoro from Dec 9 -16, 2006. I would suggest going with the AI plan, as I found drinking and eating in Cabo very expensive.
Meals:
You have 4 options for eating when at the Tesoro. Room service, buffet, Agave Azul restaurant, or eating out.
The second floor restaurant has a morning, lunch and dinner buffet. We found the food to be consistently fresh and appetizing. We had many choices to choose from;
Breakfast - Yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, omelletes, ham, bacon, sausages, oatmeal, fresh juices, hashbrowns, and coffee. Everyday had a different selection of Mexican and American foods to match our preference.
Lunch - There was a good selection of salads, fish, calimari, ice cream, tacos, hamburgers, french fries, as well as daily specials. Everyday there was something new.
Dinner - Lots of tasty salad fixings, and a choice of 10 main dishes (Mexican and American) These changed every night. Also, each night had a different theme, and we had Chinese food, Sushi, pasta, steaks, pork chops, chicken breasts, gumbo, etc.
The Tesoro has a very nice restaurant "Agave Azul". The AI plan includes eating in this dinning room. An extra charge of $15 for lobster, and $10 for steak applies. We found the Agave Azul was on par with the other restaurants in Cabo, and gives you more of a formal dinning experience then the buffet. You have a good selection of menu items. You can choose between appetizers, soups, salads and entres. I highly recommend trying the Mexican coffee, even if you dont drink coffee. The show is worth the wait. We never left hungry, and the service was very professional and timely.
Bars:
1. Swim up bar in the pool. I found the service lacking at the bar and poolside. You can order a drink, and it never shows up.
2. Between the pool and the buffet is a good bar, and the service is the best at this bar.
3. Lobby Bar - This has the most uncomfortable wrought iron chairs I have ever experienced, and seating is limited. Entertainment is 2 tv's playing Mexican MTV. Every other night, there was karaoke. We had a lot of fun at this bar. The only problem is that they only have one bartender, so those who tip, get their drinks quickly.
Rooms;
Our room was a regular room. We tried to upgrade to a junior sweet, but they wanted $60 a night extra, so we passed. Our room had a comfortable king sized bed, mini bar, TV, coffee maker. Ask for extra pillows!! I was surprised at how big deck was (501). The deck or balcone was 3 times the size of our room, and had a great view of Cabo. See the photos.
We tipped the boy who stocked our fridge, and he made sure we had everything we needed. The room was very clean, and the water pressure in the shower would knock you over if you wanted a water massage.
The only negative comment about our room is that it is on top of the Mambo Cafe. You cant hear the music, but you can feel the bass. Not enough to keep you awake if you have been drinking tequila.
Check In/ Out:
When I arrived, I was greeted by the staff quickly, and was checked in within 5 minutes. Check out was a little slower, but it was due to the volume of everyone checking out at the last minute (12pm)
There is a welcoming booth on the very left of the front desk. These ladies claim to offer you an introduction to the amenities, but they are just timeshare sales. The are nice, and not as pushy as the timeshare sharks at the airport. Just say you are not interested in timeshare. They called my room twice to invite me to the lobby for a orientation of the Tesoro. I made it clear I did not want them wasting my time, and told them NO politely.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Tesoro, and found we had interesting group of travelers staying there that made our stay great. I would definitely return to stay at the Tesoro. It is in the heart of Cabo, and located at the Marina. You can walk just about anywhere. Taxis are very expensive in Cabo, or you can grab a bus for 7 pesos. Our friends went to Costco, and found the best prices for tequila. $9 a bottle.
