My husband and I just returned from a week at El Tesoro. We took the all incusive package. We were not disappointed. The food was really good...They had excellent, well-trained chefs. Our room was spotless and cleaned really well everyday. The staff at the desk and throughout the hotel were very accomodating and pleasant...This hotel and staff rate more than 3 stars. I would say at least 4 stars. The location on the marina and in town is wonderful. We fish..so all we had to do was walk out of the hotel and make the arrangements. We both caught huge marlins even though summer supposedly is their off season.. The location at the marina is within walking distance to many great restaurants and a very upscale mall....( with movies and fast food if you wanted it) plus several mexican touristy little markets... and several clubs. I would say the only kind of irritating thing is that when first flying into the airport at Cabo.. there was a hord of time share sellers.. who were like a flock of locusts.. and actually kind of frightened me at first. I believe that they need to control that and not let them descend on you at the airport like that. Also along the marina at the hotel and on the beach we were constantly bombarded with people selling their wares. That needs to be controlled along the marina and on the beaches. A big outdoor market should be where they are allowed to sell things.. not bother people on the marina and on the beaches. Timeshare people should not be allowed on the beaches to disturb your time there either. Cabo is a very interesting place to me...such a contrast of great opulence as you can see from the fabulous boats in the marina and then great poverty. We had no complaints with the hotel in the least....El Tesoro was fantastico!

  • Liked — clean, modern
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Be ready to handle the timeshare sellers and the street vendors..it is pretty constant

We stayed at Tesoro from 7/1-7/8.
The best I can say is that is was just fine, nothing more nothing less.
The room was fine, very hard bed, poor plumbing, but a spectacular view.
The food at the buffet was mediocore, but Fransisco our waiter was attentive and very charming.
Dining at The Blue Agave was OK, the lobster changed on a daily basis and the steaks were like leather, even when ordered rare.
We stayed AI, tipped on every drink and were treated like rock stars.
The entertainment staff is a riot. Watch out for Ketutey, the activities director at the pool, he's a wild one.
Would we stay there again? Problaby, the location was key, right in th middle of it all.

Overall it was nice place and we had a great time. That said, some things need to be stated. First, the room smelled a little funky but I couldn't place it. We got used to it in a couple minutes and I don't think she even noticed it until I mentioned it about three days in. The bed, as the other reviews have said is HARD. I am by no means a light sleeper, I have backpacked for years and have no problem sleeping on a hiking sleep pad, even the ones made out of what looks like egg carton..but this bed was hard. I sleep on those mats because I have to and it's ok because I don't want to carry a mattress into the wild, but at a hotel I expect a little something more comfortable and this was one of those matresses that seems ok, then wakes you up a few dozen times to turn because the last drop of blood has left whatever side your sleeping on. We slept "OK" I just wish it would have been a little softer.

The all-inclusive was great. We aren't heavy drinkers but what we did drink and the three times we used the on-site restaurant, plus the one-time-a-day room service allowance, we definitely covered the additional all-inclusive charge. The included water taxi to the public beach was cool, with one warning. We were ok, but older people or heavier people need to be careful. The boat basically backs into the beach, the guy pulls the motor out of the water and you have to leap off the back of the boat because he can't actually "beach" the boat. So if you aren't down for some jumping or climbing/scrambling leg-over-rail clammoring back on board, this might not be the way to get to the public beach. It would appear though, that that is the fav mode of transport, a lot of hotels had water taxis drop people at that spot just like that. The all-inclusive part on the public beach was great. We drank free beers for hours, we had two lounge chairs with umbrellas over us and just enjoyed the day. Local merchants walked up and down the aisles which some would consider irritating, my wife saw it as a mobile mall. She bought a half-dozen items and so I have a word of caution. First, haggle. Second, watch EXACTLY how much you give them. I am pretty sure that when I gave one of them a $20, to which he said he had no change, he palmed the money while I looked for smaller bills and then said that he had already given it back to me. I am almost, the key being ALMOST certain I was too busy thumbing through my wallet when he said he didn't have change for the bill to have had time to take the bill back so I think he suckered me. So, word of caution. Second, know your exchange rate, one of them tried to argue I had the rate wrong but I knew I was right and eventually he conceeded.

The onsite restaurant we thought was very good, I know a lot of people complained but guys...c'mon...stop being such foodies. Sometimes when I read these reviews it's like the only reason any of these people go anywhere is to eat, eat, eat. Food is food. I like great food too, and if I come across it, I thoroughly enjoy it, but unlike some of these travelers, I don't pivot the worth of the entire vacation on it. That said, it's good, not great, not five star, but it's good. The bar crowd was fun, the hotel staff was helpful, and the best part about the hotel was the location.

The hotel us right on the Marina a short walk from the Paradiso, which is basically a very modern outdoor mall with bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, a movie theater, just about everything you would expect from a mall in the States. The downtown area is right outside the hotel with even more clubs, shops, restaurants, bars, so much to do we couldn't see it all and since it was so close, no taxi charges.

The taxi that brought us to the public beach only charged us $12 (for two) to take us to The Arch, it was a tour (including a the glass bottom boat thing) so there were some stops and some commentary, real good for $12. They only charge $5 to take you to any beach along the inside of the peninsula if you want to go snorkeling..if you go early enough you can basically get your own beach, all day, for $5 (Round Trip) and just bring lunch and beers with you, assuming you have gear but they have rentals there. The trip to Lovers Beach was $5 too and there was a guy on the beach selling ice cold Corona's (with limes) for $3 each. Not bad. Good snorkeling as long as the water isn't too rough. Same boat disembark/embarkation procedure as the public beach, made a little trickier by sometimes, some serious swells/surf.

Our room didn't have the BEST view but it wasn't bad, it had a hammock on the balcony which you can remove if you want to sit at the table outside. Room service is free, i.e. $3 tip but the food is included in the all-inclusive, one room service a day but it can be breakfast lunch or dinner. Nice views from the pool, pool was mostly quiet while we were there...they do group games/events at the outdoors lobby pool at night. The buffet was fine, as I said before food was GOOD, not great but fine for us. And my last comment, same as other airports in Mexico, make sure you BLOW PAST the timeshare people when you get off the plane after customs. Exit the airport to the right if you have prepurchased shuttles (Sign marked GROUP), to the left puts you next to the cabs.

One last thing, carry a wad of $2 peso notes at all times because even though it's all inclusive, everything moves on small bills and you're constantly tipping somebody for something.

I have to admit that after reading several of the negative reviews on this hotel that I was actually dreading the trip to Cabo San Lucas. I am happy to report that my experience there was totally positive!
I had booked the trip for myself and three of my girlfriends and we wanted the cheapest vacation we could find since we are teachers in Texas. Tesoro in Cabo was the least expensive deal for us, and we were extremely pleased with our stay there.
I am 51 years old; my friends are 41, 45, and 53. I don't know if it was because we were four women traveling alone, but we got the absolute best service imaginable from all the staff at the Tesoro. Everyone was friendly and attentive; whatever we needed, they provided promptly and with a smile. We were especially pampered by our waiter, Francisco Lopez, at the outdoor restaurant. (We did the all-inclusive, so we only ate one meal away from the hotel.) If we needed towels, he checked them out for us. Bottled water for the day? He brought us two bottles each, plus fruit to snack on while we were out and about. If we wanted a food item that was not on the buffet? Francisco made it happen. We became totally spoiled!
And, by the way, the food was wonderful, especially the Mexican dishes. Also, although none of us are big drinkers, all of the drinks were good- not watered down like at some all-inclusives. Plus, they have boarded off half of the hotel, which is not being used, so we had only a short walk to the elevator and stairs.
We immediately upgraded to a junior suite as soon as we arrived because we had booked a standard room and knew that it would be too small for four women and all our luggage. They gave us a second story suite with a kingsize bed and a sofa bed. I slept on the sofa and my three friends used the kingsize. The beds were not hard, but very comfortable. The room was large and clean and we had a nice balcony with a hammock. When we first arrived, there was a terrible smell of sewage in the bathroom, but we found that as soon as we used the shower, the smell disappeared. As we roamed the town, we found that this smell was everywhere at times--even on the streets. So I think it is just part of the city--certainly not exclusive to the Tesoro.
The only complaint I have about the Tesoro is that it is noisy. We could hear loud, pulsating music all night long, every night. We never could quite figure out where the sound was coming from, but I think it was from the lobby bar. But, after full days out in the sun, I really had no trouble sleeping.
For excursions, I highly recommend Cabo Expeditions. The concierge at the hotel recommended them, and they were fantastic! We kayaked, parasailed, snorkeled, and scuba dived through them, and every experience was wonderful. Only one of us is a diver, so the rest of us snorkeled off the dive boat. Salvador, who drove the boat, was the greatest! He would take us one place to snorkel, then would "tow" us to another spot by hanging onto a rope behind the boat. I have snorkeled all over the Caribbean and this was some of the best snorkeling I have ever done. The coral was not colorful, but I have NEVER seen so many fish in one place. I literally saw thousands of fish in an hour's time! It was amazing!
We spent one afternoon at the Baja Cantina on Medrano Beach and we had a great time! Yes, it's true that it is crowded with tourists and locals, and the beach vendors swarm around you about every hour on the hour, but I loved it! The water and the view were beautiful. Plus, I enjoyed watching the locals playing with their children on the beach. When I go to a foreign country, I want to be part of the culture--I don't want to feel like I am still in America. Staying at the Tesoro and lazing on the beach at Baja Cantina was a great cultural experience.
OK, I've saved the best for last. You just can't beat the location of Tesoro. We never took a land taxi anywhere. We could walk everywhere in town, which was great for shopping and nightlife. We booked all our tours a few steps away at the marina. Since we were only in Cabo for three nights and days, this was most convenient for us.
All four of us had a terrific time in Cabo at the Tesoro. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun and economical vacation.

We decided to honeymoon in Cabo and stayed at Tesoro with the all inclusive plan. We saved sooo much money on alcohol and food. Our travel agent e-mailed ahead that we were newlyweds so we were surprised with a heart shaped cake and champagne chilling on ice. The room was very spacious, the view was breathtaking, the king size bed was not all that hard to us (we slept fine), the cable had several HBO channels, and the it was very clean. I don't think we had other guest staying on our floor except our last night because we didn't hear anyone. The pool was very fun (especially the activity staff---full of energy) The buffets were good and they always had a variety. The restaurant was very romantic and dimly lit. The hotel location was the BEST!! Down the steps to the Marina and the other way is direct to all the shops and bars/restaurants. We HAVE to recommend at least one night at "The Giggling Marlin" restaurant and bar after 9pm. We had the best time with the group participation---they left no one in the audience alone!! Cabo Wabo is great for fun dancing and great drinks. You get everything you read with the all inclusive plan so it is HIGHLY recommended.
