To much of our dismay, we were suppose to go to Cancun but Hurricane Wilma wouldn't let us so we switched from Cancun to Cabo San Lucas. In our group, there were 8 couples and we stayed at the Costa Real from October 26th to November 1st. We were greeted with drinks while we were checking in. We did have some check-in problems with the rooms but they were resolved in a fair amount of time. Even some people in our group moved to a different room the next day. Rooms were large but a little outdated except 1 couple got a remodeled room (which they are in the process of remodeling the whole place). The best part of the vacation was our group basically had the whole place to ourselves because of the Bissby's Fishing Tournament. Most of the people staying left early in the morning on their beautiful yachts that were docked in the Marina outside our hotel (which we could view from our balconies). The location is convenient and doesn't require a taxi cab because you can walk to any restaurant, do shopping or enjoy the nightlife instead of staying in your hotel. The Mambo Cafe next door to the Costa Real was a lot fun watching the Salsa dancing. Cabo Wabo is a must see - even though we missed Sammy Hagar by 1 night. The Sports and Entertainment team at the Costa Real were a lot of fun - we became friends with Chuey, Sunja, Ricardo, Artiuro and the rest of gang. The entertainment at the pool everyday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm was fun (aerobics, spanish lessions, tequilla volleyball, jenga, braclet making, dancing lessons, etc. They made sure we had a great time and if you did not want to participate they left you alone. We enjoyed watching them entertain us at dinner in the evening time. The drinks were strong except we didn't care for the up charge for premium liquors (jack daniels, malibum rum, seagrams etc.) and no Anheuser-Busch products available!! Always had diet coke and water available for you at the bars and in your fridge in the room. Food - breakfast was good, lunch was adequate and supper at the buffet was a lot to be desired except for a few nights. Dinner at Maria's was decent except for the up charge for Lobster - $15.00, Steak and Coconut Shrimp - $10.00 - the service was good and the Mexican coffee was alot of fun! Some of the downfalls are long walks to the elevators (which 12 of us got stuck in for about 10 minutes) no wash cloths, had to call for an iron and ironing board every night but never received one the whole trip, being bothered by the time share people on arrival of the hotel. Another downfall was the water taxi ride to the beach - they more or less just dumped you off in the sand and water and people from the beach would come to help but then expect tips! All in all we had a great time for our first trip to Cabo. We would definately stay at the Costa Real again but not do the all inclusive.
